Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the song 'Black Shuck', at which town's church door does this crazy dog take "another fatal swipe"?

Answer: Blythburgh

According to Justin, 'Black Shuck' is a legend that has been passed around Lowestoft, his home town, ever since he can remember. They say that 'Black Shuck' is a ghostly dog that roams the coastline and countryside of East Anglia. 'Shuck' actually comes from the Old English 'scucca' meaning 'demon'.
2. Which of these activities does Justin NOT do in the song 'Friday Night'?

Answer: Chess Club

Yes, incredibly, according to the lyrics, Justin does archery, bridge club AND needlework but he doesn't have time for chess club! He also manages to fit in cycling, gymnastics, dancing, rowing, badminton and ping-pong!
3. In the song 'Is it Just Me', when Justin's girlfriend is at the Taj Mahal, where in the world is he?

Answer: Big Ben

According to the lyrics, Justin does manage to be in all the other places aforementioned too but at the point in time when his girlfriend is at the Taj Mahal, he is outside Big Ben. What bad luck, eh?
4. In the song 'English Country Garden,' Justin sings about a quiz that he did at the village fete. In what position did he finish?

Answer: Last

Yes, Justin finished last in the quiz, much to the villagers' disgust who all laughed at him. I don't think he would have cared too much though seeing as the song talks of his love affair with a girl in the 'English Country Garden'.
5. In the song 'Blind Man', the song's protagonist is crying over the death of his beloved wife. What is her name?

Answer: Eileen

This is my favourite song on the album - a heartfelt ballad which ends the album on a poignant note. It is quite a tragic song really as it documents the 'Blind Man's' loss of his beloved wife before finally he passes away too by the end of the song...Let's move on to a lighter note!
6. In the song 'Forbidden Love', Justin sings about a love affair being forbidden because somebody would treat him as an outlaw. Who would that be?

Answer: His in-laws

I'm sure that we have all been there - according to the lyrics, his in-laws would not approve of the relationship. But unfortunately for Justin, it seems that the fact that their love is forbidden only makes him want the lady in question more. It seems we do want what we can't have.
7. "Way back in caveman times, sabre-toothed cave ladies chewed up and spat out our hearts" is a lyric in the song "Living Each Day Blind".

Answer: False

This lyric does appear on the album but in fact, it appears in 'She's Just a Girl, Eddie.' Justin and his brother, Dan, wrote this song as a bit of a laugh to cheer drummer Ed Graham up when he had split up with his girlfriend. Somehow it ended up on 'Hot Cakes', much to Ed's disgust, and it is actually one of the best tracks on there!
8. In the B-Side to 'Christmas Time', 'I Love you 5 Times', Justin sings about how his girlfriend grins at him like which animal?

Answer: Puma

This song tends to have some interesting lyrics to say the least including, "I watch as you spend an hour or two in the bath like a tuna." Hmm...interesting stuff. Nevertheless, it is a catchy ballad that complements the main track 'Christmas Time' very well.
9. According to the legend in "The Curse of the Tollund Man", why was he hung, drawn and halved?

Answer: He was accused of witchcraft

The Tollund Man did actually exist - he was found in 1950 buried in a peat bog on the Jutland Peninsula in Denmark. He has been naturally mummified and is said to have lived during the 4th century BC, during the Pre-Roman Iron Age.
10. In the song 'Shake like a Lettuce Leaf', Justin tells his fans to shake it until what?

Answer: Until the slugs fall off

In this tongue-in-cheek little B-Side to 'Is it Just Me', The Darkness use several different foods to stand in for metaphors - "I just want what every man wants,
Never ending vol-au-vents... and a pint!" Pure genius.
