Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Jane was a Maid of Honour to both Katherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn.

Answer: True

Jane liked and admired Katherine, but was ambitious (and flexible of conscience) enough to serve Anne as well.
2. Jane was a devout Protestant.

Answer: False

Jane Seymour was devoutly Catholic, and quite horrified by Henry's dissolution of the monasteries. Had she lived to see it, she would have been even more horrified that her son, Edward VI, became a fanatical Protestant.
3. Jane had two brothers who were to play a part in history. What were their names?

Answer: Edward and Thomas Seymour

Both were to have their heads chopped off during the reign of Jane's son, Edward VI. Edward was named "Protector" during the regency, but lost power to John Dudley, who did away with him. Thomas married Katherine Parr after Henry VIII's death, and after her death tried to stage a coup, for which he was executed.
4. How long after Anne Boleyn's death did Henry's marriage to Jane Seymour take place?

Answer: 11 days

They were married May 30th, 1536.
5. Jane made a special effort to befriend Henry's first daughter Mary, and get Henry to accept her as part of his family again.

Answer: True

This was partly because of her respect for Katherine of Aragon. Apparently she took very little interest in Elizabeth.
6. Jane was pregnant when she married Henry VIII.

Answer: False

Henry was very careful to guard Jane's reputation before they were married - he did not want anyone to be able to imply that any children of this union were illegitimate.
7. How long did Henry VIII wait (since ascending the Throne) for the birth of a healthy (legitimate) male heir?

Answer: 27 years

Although sons had been born to Henry's other wives they all were miscarried, died at birth or shortly therafter. When Jane Seymour at long last gave birth to their son Edward, Henry cried tears of joy for hours.
8. Queen Jane died the same day her son Edward was born.

Answer: False

Actually, she died of septicemia 12 days later.
9. Where was Jane buried?

Answer: St. George's Chapel, Windsor

At the time of her death Henry was having his own burial place prepared at Windsor. She was placed there instead, and more space was allotted for Henry's internment later. She was the only one of Henry's queens to be buried with him.
10. Henry VIII was heard to call for Jane on his deathbed.

Answer: True

She was said to have been the only one of his wives he actually asked for, although Katherine Parr did come to visit him regularly until he sent her away because he did not want to see her so upset.
