Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Katherine had been married how many times before she married Henry VIII?

Answer: Twice

Katherine Parr was married four times altogether, making her England's most married Queen.
2. Katherine Parr was a devout Catholic, much to the irritation of Henry VIII.

Answer: False

Katherine was a passionate Protestant to the point that she would argue with her royal spouse about religious dogma. This nearly cost her her head, but she managed to convince Henry her arguments were done only to divert him from the pain of his ulcerated leg.
3. Katherine Parr was universally hated by Henry VIII's children.

Answer: False

Exceptionally good with children, she was especially close to Elizabeth. Prince Edward enjoyed her company too, and she took great interest in their education. Mary was suspicious of her at first, but was gradually won over by Katherine's kindness in spite of their difference in religion.
4. Whom did Katherine marry after Henry VIII's death?

Answer: Thomas Seymour

This was a highly controversial marriage because they wed secretly, long before she was "officially" allowed to do so after the death of the King. They also did not ask permission of Edward VI's council, which they were required to do, but by the time they found out it was too late. Thomas Seymour was something of a cad, guilty of both trying to seduce Princess Elizabeth (who was living with Katherine Parr while she finished her education) and trying to get himself named regent. Katherine, who was pregnant at the time, found out about the monkey business with her step-daughter and was heartbroken.

Some people think that this led to her death in childbirth shortly after sending Elizabeth away for her own protection. Thomas, although contrite and geniunely sorry for her death, continued to scheme within weeks of her passing.

He wrote letters to Elizabeth (which she wisely did not answer) and tried to stage a coup, for which he lost his head.
5. Did Katherine ever have any children of her own?

Answer: Yes

Yes, and her name was Mary. Unfortunately Katherine died as a result of this pregnancy, and within a year Thomas was executed. Mary disappeared from history, so it is assumed that she did not survive childhood.
