Michael Moore made a name for himself with his first film, "Roger & Me," a documentary about the closing of GM factories in Flint. He went on to make several other successful films, including "Bowling for Columbine" and "Fahrenheit 9/11."

Eddie Slovik (1920-1945) -- PVT Slovik's last words were "They're not shooting me for deserting the United States Army -- thousands of guys have done that. They're shooting me for that bread I stole when I was 12 years old." Slovik had a long history of brushes with the law.

When he was 12 he was arrested when he and some friends broke into a foundry to steal some brass. Over the next few years, he was arrested several more times for petty theft, breaking and entering, and disturbing the peace. He went to jail in 1937 for stealing candy, chewing gum, cigarettes and change from a drugstore where he was working.

He was 17 at the time. Later, he went to prison for 2 1/2 years for stealing, then wrecking a car. Slovik deserted his unit in France on 9th October 1944.
