Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Italian violin maestro who founded the "Omaggio a Venezia" (Tribute to Venice) music festival.

Answer: Uto Ughi

Ughi studied under virtuoso's such as Georges Enescu and Yehudi Menuhin and has been delighting audiences around the world for over fifty years. As well as the "Omaggio a Venezia" festival, he has also founded the Omaggio a Roma and Uto Ughi per Roma festivals.
Ughi is the proud owner of two extremely rare violins, a Stradivari "Van-Houten-Kreutzer" from 1701 and a "Guarneri del Gesu" dating from 1744.
2. Winner of the badminton men's singles at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.

Answer: Yang Yang

In 1989, Yang became only the third man to win two consecutive World Badminton Championships, the same year that he won his second World Cup.
Although he won the gold medal at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, badminton was only an exhibition event at those games, not becoming a fully fledged Olympic event until the 1992 Barcelona games, where gold was won by Alan Budikusuma of Indonesia.
3. Former British Ambassador to both Romania and Thailand.

Answer: Quinton Quayle

Quayle was ambassador to Romania between 2002 and 2006 during which time Romania joined NATO and finalised preparations for their joining of the EU in 2007.
In 2007, Quayle began a three year role as ambassador to Thailand where he was heavily involved in promoting trade and investment links between the UK and Thailand.
In the spirit of these double initialled quizzes, Quayle succeeded Richard Ralph as Romanian ambassador, and preceded Asif Ahmad as Thai ambassador.
4. Former Japanese judoka who won gold at the 1984 Olympics when he defeated Mohamed Ali Rashwan of Egypt.

Answer: Yasuhiro Yamashita

Although he won four World Championships, Yamashita is best remembered for his 1984 Olympic appearance, when he tore a calf muscle in his preliminary match.
He won the match though and even though he was unable to walk without limping, he continued to compete, despite the injury worsening with every bout.
Somehow, he made it through to the final, where his opponent, Mohamed Ali Rashwan of Egypt, in true Olympic spirit refused to land any blows to Yamashita's injured leg.
Yamashita won the gold and Rashwan was honoured with an award from the International Fairplay Committee.
5. Guitarist for Kiss between 1982 and 1984.

Answer: Vinnie Vincent

Vincent's onstage costume in Kiss was that of "The Ankh Warrior" and he appeared with the band on the "Creatures of the Night" (1982) and "Lick It Up" (1983) albums.
Following his departure from Kiss, he formed the Vinny Vincent Invasion which featured Robert Fleischman on vocals, best known for briefly being vocalist for Journey, prior to Steve Perry.
6. Member of the Chinese men's team that took gold in table tennis at the 2016 Olympics.

Answer: Xu Xin

Xin is known for his incredibly fast footwork and his ability to set up for his forehand loop shot. These skills have powered him to ten World Championship gold medals between 2010 and 2019, in team, doubles and mixed doubles events.
Although he lost his world number one ITTF (International Table Tennis Federation) ranking in February 2015, after holding it for an entire year, he rose again to recapture it in July 2019.
7. French footballer, played for Real Madrid of Spain between 2001 and 2006.

Answer: Zinedine Zidane

In his career, Zidane played for Cannes, Bordeaux, Juventus and Real Madrid, developing into one of the most skilful attacking midfielders ever seen. He was also an integral part of the French squad that lifted the World Cup in 1998, but despite all of his honours he is remembered for a split second in the 2006 World Cup final, when he lost his cool and headbutted Marco Materazzi in the chest, becoming only the fourth player to be sent off in a World Cup final.
8. Premier of the People's Republic of China from 1980 to 1987.

Answer: Zhao Ziyang

Zhao Ziyang became the third Premier of the People's Republic of China in 1980, taking over the reins from Hu Yaobang.
He attracted much press coverage in the West, for allowing pop group Wham! to visit the country and play two gigs, one in Beijing, and one in Canton. This act, which was the first by a Western pop group to the country, did much to ease tensions between China and the West.
Zhao became General Secretary of the Communist Party of China in 1987, but was ousted in 1989 for showing support towards the protesters in Tiananmen Square during the 1989 protests. He spent almost the next 16 years of his life, until his death in 2005, under house arrest.
9. Venezuelan Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher, convicted in 2007 of attempted murder.

Answer: Ugueth Urbina

Urbina played for Montreal Expos, Boston Red Sox, Texas Rangers, Detroit Tigers and Philadelphia Phillies, as well as being a part of the Florida Marlins team that won the 2003 World Series by defeating the New York Yankees 4-2.
In 2007, he was sentenced to 14 years and seven months in prison, when after discovering people on his property, he attacked them with a machete and attempted to douse them with gasoline, believing them to be burglars.
He was released from prison in 2012 after serving seven years of his attempted murder sentence.
10. Actor that starred alongside Ben Stiller in "DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story" (2004).

Answer: Vince Vaughn

Although primarily known for his comedic roles, Vaughn has also appeared in movies such as "The Lost World: Jurassic Park" (1997) in which he played photo journalist, Nick Van Owen and "Hacksaw Ridge (2016) in which he played Sergeant Howell to Corporal Desmond Doss, played brilliantly by Andrew Garfield.
Vaughn is best known for his starring role alongside Owen Wilson in "Wedding Crashers" (2005) which was a huge box office smash, coming second to Johnny Depp's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" (2005) for revenue earned in its opening weekend.
