Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A physician and worker in the early church who wrote the Book of Acts

Answer: Who is Luke?

Luke was a physician and worker in the early church who is credited with writing the Book of Acts as well as the Gospel of Luke. Both books were letters addressed to a man known as Theophilus. Luke often worked alongside Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles.

It is clear Paul and Luke had a close friendship as Paul describes him as the "beloved physician" in Colossians 4:14.
2. The person who, according to tradition, was the disciple Jesus loved

Answer: Who is John?

Tradition holds John was the disciple Jesus loved. On different occasions in the Gospel of John, mention is made of the disciple Jesus loved with the description being found nowhere else in the Bible. The common belief is John used the words "the disciple Jesus loved" as he did not want his name to have preeminence.

It must be pointed out some modern day scholars believe the "disciple Jesus loved" was someone else than John. They're entitled to their opinion. On this one, I am squarely on the side of tradition.
3. The community in which Jesus raised a widow's son from the dead

Answer: What is Nain?

Jesus was in Nain when He miraculously raised a widow's son from the dead. According to Luke 7:7-11, Jesus was about to enter the community when he saw a dead man being carried out of the main gate. Scripture states Jesus told the widow not to weep and then after touching the open coffin, proclaimed: "Young man, I say to you, arise." Incredibly, the man sat up and began to speak. No name is given in Scripture for the widow or her son.

Nain, now known as Nein, is a small community in northern Israel. The community is mentioned in only the Gospel of Luke and nowhere else in the Bible.
4. The woman who had seven demons driven out of her by Jesus

Answer: Who is Mary Magdalene?

Mary Magdalene had seven demons driven out of her by Jesus, as per Mark 16:9 and Luke 8:2. However, no further details are given as the incident is described in passing reference.

According to John 20:11-18, Mary Magdalene was the first person to see Christ
after He was resurrected from the dead.
5. The chief tax collector of Jericho who climbed a tree to get a better look at Jesus as He passed through

Answer: Who is Zacchaeus?

Zacchaeus was the chief tax collector of Jericho who was short of stature and Luke 19:1-9 tells of him climbing a sycamore tree to get a better look at Jesus as He passed through. To the amazement of Zacchaeus, Jesus requested him to come down from the tree as He intended to visit his house.

People in the crowd, upon hearing Jesus' plans, were highly critical, pointing out tax collectors were largely dishonest, and traitors who worked for the Romans. Zacchaeus responded to the criticism by stating, "Look, Lord, I give half of my goods to the poor; and if I have taken anything from anyone by false accusation, I restore fourfold."

Jesus was quite pleased with Zacchaeus' response and told the people: "Today salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham; for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost."
6. The mother of Timothy, a young and timid worker in the early church

Answer: Who is Eunice?

Eunice was the mother of Timothy, as per 2 Timothy 1:5. The same verse states Lois was Timothy's grandmother. According to Acts 16:1, Lois was a Jewish woman who was married to an unnamed Greek man in Lystra. Lois is mentioned by name in only 2 Timothy 1:5.
7. The man who raised Eutychus from the dead after he tumbled out a third storey window

Answer: Who is Paul?

Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, raised Eutychus from the dead after he tumbled out a third storey window. The highly unusual incident took place in Troas. According to Acts 20:7-12, Eutychus fell asleep in a window while Paul continued delivering his message until midnight. After Eutychus fell out of the window, people rushed downstairs and found him dead.

After raising Eutychus from the dead, the passage states Paul went back upstairs, broke bread and ate and continued speaking until daybreak.

Scripture goes on to tell of Paul travelling by boat to Assos to preach the Gospel message.
8. The father of four daughters who prophesied

Answer: Who is Philip the Evangelist?

Philip the Evangelist was the father of four daughters who prophesied, according to Acts 21:9. No names are given from his daughters. Scripture tells of Paul and his companions staying for an unstated amount of time at Philip's house.

Philip the Evangelist is not to be confused with Philip, one of the original Twelve Disciples. Philip, in this case, was one of seven Grecian Jews who was appointed as an elder, as per Acts 6:5.
9. The Jewish woman who was married to Roman governor Felix

Answer: Who is Drusilla?

Drusilla was a Jewish woman who was married to Felix, a Roman governor, as per Acts 24:24. Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, appeared before Felix after he was accused of sedition by the Pharisees.

Drusilla was a daughter of Herod Agrippa and she died in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79.
10. The woman who became a believer in a resurrected Jesus Christ after Paul preached in Athens

Answer: Who is Damaris?

Damaris was converted to Christianity after Paul preached the Gospel message in Athens, as per Acts 17:16-34. According to the passage, Paul's address in Athens was largely mocked by the people, but a man called Dionysius was also converted to Christianity along with Damaris.
