Francesco Molinari won the 2018 British Open at Carnoustie by a margin of two shots over four other golfers, which included Kevin Kisner, Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose and Xander Schauffele. Molinari entered the final round three shots behind but closed with a 69 to capture the title, his first major and the first ever by an Italian golfer.

He has competed on both the PGA Tour and European Tour and has represented Europe on Ryder Cup teams.
2. Phil Mickelson

Phil Mickelson captured the 2013 British Open at Muirfield in Scotland by two strokes over runner-up Henrik Stenson. His victory marked the first time he had won the Open Championship. Mickelson's win was quite remarkable as he entered the final round five shots behind eight other golfers but he closed with a 66 to win the event. Phil joined the PGA Tour in 1992 and has won in excess of fifty tournaments worldwide.
3. Henrik Stenson

Stenson's victory was the first time a Swede had captured this event and was his first major title. Stenson turned pro in 1998 and has won multiple European Tour Golfer of the Year awards.
4. Stewart Cink

Stewart Cink was victorious at the 2009 British Open, on the Ailsa Course at Turnberry, in a four-hole aggregate playoff over the legendary Tom Watson. It was the first time that he had won the Open Championship and the first major of his career. Clarke is from Northern Ireland and has represented Europe in numerous Ryder Cup competitions.
6. Rory McIlroy

Entering the final round, McIlroy had a six-shot lead and used that cushion to hang on for the win, closing with a 71. Rory McIlroy is from Northern Ireland and is nicknamed Wee-Mac to signify his successes in the wake of fellow countryman G-Mac (Graeme McDowell).

Jordan Spieth won the 2017 British Open held at Royal Birkdale by three strokes over second place finisher Matt Kuchar. Of note, the event marked the first time that the prize money was awarded in US dollars. Jordan Spieth is an American golfer, turned Pro in 2012 and was named PGA Player of the Year in 2015.

9. Zach Johnson
