The NBA shortened the three-point line to uniform 22 feet from the basket (as opposed to 22 feet in the corner and 23 feet 9 inches at the center), before the start of the 1994-95 season. This lead to an increase in average team three pointers made per game from 3.3 to 5.5, and an increase in three point percentage from 33.3 to 35.9 percent.

However, due to other rule and strategy changes around the league, the scoring didn't go up. The three point line went back to its previous position for the 1997-98 season.

Allen hit 269 three pointers playing for the Seattle Supersonics in the 2005-06 NBA season. Allen also lead the NBA in three pointers made during the 2001-02 and 2002-03 NBA seasons. When he retired, Allen had the record for most career regular season three pointers.

Curry hit 12 three pointers and scored 46 points in a crazy overtime victory against the Oklahoma City Thunder on February 27, 2016. The Golden State Warriors had a great rivalry against the Thunder that year, which culminated with a comeback after being down 3-1 in the Western Conference Finals, and Kevin Durant leaving the Thunder for the Warriors the following offseason. Curry tied the record that had been set previously by Kobe Bryant and Donyell Marshall. Curry would break this record by hitting 13 three pointers in a game the following season.
