Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This quarterback took snaps for the San Diego Chargers and Buffalo Bills. He took his team to five championship game appearances in nine seasons. Who was this player who later earned a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives?

Answer: Jack Kemp

The others were all linebackers. Somehow, Kemp went to seven all-star games even though his career arm was 114 touchdowns with 183 interceptions. Kemp retired in 1969 after 11 seasons.
2. This Oakland Raider defensive back used as much 'stickum' as did flanker Fred Beletnikoff. In 1980, not only did he intercept 13 passes, but he returned them for 273 yards which led both leagues. In the playoffs he picked off five more. 18 interceptions in a season is an almost impossible feat to duplicate. Who was this Raider back?

Answer: Lester Hayes

The others were all kickers. Also known for being a dirty hitter, Hayes played his entire career of 10 seasons with the Raiders. Lester was a five-time Pro Bowler. He won two Super Bowl rings, one in 1980 against the Eagles, and his second with the Raiders of Los Angeles in 1983 against the Redskins.
3. Who was known as the 'Minister of Defense'?

Answer: Reggie White

The others were all running backs. After eight seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, Reggie traded uniforms to the Packers of Green Bay for six seasons, then retired in 1998. He came out of retirement for one season with the Carolina Panthers in 2000. White went to the Pro Bowl 13 times in his career.
4. A former track star, this wide receiver was the most successful in his time. He set a world record in the 100-meter dash in the 1964 Olympics. After that, he caught an amazing 67 touchdown passes with the Dallas Cowboys. Who was this speedster nicknamed, 'Bullet'?

Answer: Bob Hayes

The others were all offensive lineman. 'Bullet' Bob Hayes was the one who also averaged 20 yards per catch in his career. He also led the league as a punt returner in 1968, averaging over 20 yards. Strangely enough, with the combination of him and QB Don Merideth and Roger Staubach, Bob played only three times in the Pro Bowl.
5. Which controversial quarterback in the 1960s, wore panty hose on a TV commercial?

Answer: Joe Namath

The others were all Major League baseball players. Namath also got into a bind with the NFL over having part ownership in a nightclub named, 'Bachelors III'. He was forced by the NFL to disassociate himself with it for the better of football. Joe was also famous for predicting an 'impossible' win over the Colts in Super Bowl III in 1969. The Jets did win.
6. It was amazing that the Houston Oilers won 11 straight games to finish off their 1993 season, especially with all the turmoil on the team. This plague included the Oilers' defensive coordinator taking a punch from the Oilers' offensive coordinator on the sidelines during a game. Who was on the receiving end of the punch?

Answer: Buddy Ryan

The others never coached the Oilers or Eagles. The Oilers' offensive coordinator at the time was Kevin Gilbride. Ryan coached the Philadelphia Eagles to a 55-55 record over seven seasons. He retired in 1995.
7. Which Cowboy defensive lineman in Super Bowl XXVII against Buffalo, picked up a fumble, ran it to his own goal line, but celebrated a little early and was stripped of the ball?

Answer: Leon Lett

The others were wide receivers. Lett, in his second season with the Cowboys, was the goat of the day for his actions. Starting his celebration beginning at the four-yard line, Buffalo's Don Beebe caught him from behind and punched the ball through the end zone for a touchback. Dallas still won the game in a blowout, 52-17.
8. The 1991 Detroit Lion season was marred by an injury to which offensive lineman that left him paralyzed?

Answer: Mike Utley

Mike was in his third season right in front of the great Barry Sanders, when the late-season injury happened. Detroit was in their first winning season since 1983. They finished the season 12-4, but lost in the NFC Championship game to the Redskins.
9. Dan Marino had the 'Marks brothers' with the Miami Dolphins in 1984. Who were these two greats who combined for 2695 receiving yards and 26 touchdowns in the season?
