Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "The Cruciferous Vegetable Amplification" - Customer at Cheesecake Factory

Answer: Steve Wozniak

Sheldon decided that he needed to adopt a healthier lifestyle so that he would live long enough to see the great advancements in science that he thought would take place in the future. When adjusting his diet and exercise routines did not pan out the way in which he expected, Sheldon decided to seclude himself at home and use a computer monitor on wheels - a virtual self - to interact with others.

When the robot traveled to the Cheesecake Factory with the guys for a meal, they were all surprised to see Steve Wozniak there.

Sheldon asked if Wozniak would autograph his old computer and wait long enough for him to arrive with it on the bus. Alas, in his rush, Sheldon fell down the steps and broke the computer. (Season 4/Episode 2)
2. "The Terminator Decoupling" - Guest Lecturer in San Francisco

Answer: George Smoot

The guys traveled to San Francisco, by train, of course, because that is Sheldon's favorite and he typically had his way, to see Dr. Smoot, the 2006 Nobel Laureate in Physics, who was giving a guest lecture there. Sheldon had a paper that he wanted Dr. Smoot to see, but had forgotten to bring his flash drive.

While the others tried to cozy up to Summer Glau, who was also riding on the train, Sheldon told Penny where she could find the flash drive with the paper so that she could email it to him.

It was all in vain, however, as Dr. Smoot was totally unimpressed by the paper, and even asked Sheldon if he was on crack! (Season 2/Episode 17)
3. "The Friendship Contraction" - Gave Howard his NASA call name

Answer: Michael Massimino

Howard was looking forward to receiving a phone call from NASA astronaut and aerospace engineer, Michael Massimino. He and Raj even hatched a plan to get "Mass" to give Howard his call name - hopefully "Rocket Man". Instead Mass overheard Howard's mom asking what he wanted for breakfast, and Howard's call name became "Fruit Loops". Massimino also appeared in the last episode of Season 5, where Howard, after being launched into space, reminisced about his marriage to Bernadette. Altogether, by the time of the series conclusion, Massimino appeared on "Big Bang Theory" six times. (Season 5/Episode 15)
4. "The Herb Garden Germination" - Author at a bookstore

Answer: Brian Greene

Sheldon and Amy attended Dr. Greene's lecture at a bookstore, where Sheldon did his best to belittle Greene and the plan he outlined in his new book - teaching people who knew nothing about science about the universe. Afterwards, Sheldon and Amy decided to set up an experiment and use their friends as guinea pigs in order to see what type of gossip would spread the fastest - gossip that was exciting, or gossip that was not.

Their motivation in doing so had to do with the gossip circulating among members of their group as to whether or not Bernadette would welcome Howard's marriage proposal. (Season 4/Episode 20)
5. "The Apology Insufficiency" - Raj's visitor at the university

Answer: Neil de Grasse Tyson

Howard had to rely on his friends to give him a recommendation when he needed FBI security clearance in order to be assigned to a new project. When a lovely FBI agent visited Leonard, Raj, and Sheldon, they all managed to botch up their interviews. Sheldon was especially filled with guilt concerning his role in the debacle, and was too upset to properly address Dr. Tyson when Raj introduced him.

He told Dr.Tyson that he had liked Pluto and, therefore, didn't like him due to his role in the demotion of Pluto to a dwarf planet.

When Dr. Tyson tried to apologize to Sheldon, he was needlessly rude. (Season 4/Episode 7)
6. "The Gates Excitation" - Businessman who wants to collaborate to make a vaccine

Answer: Bill Gates

Penny was doing very well at her job with Bernadette's pharmaceutical company. So well, in fact, that she was assigned to spend the day with Bill Gates. He wants to collaborate with her company to develop a new vaccine, and she is to show him around.

The guys desperately wanted to meet Gates, but Penny emphatically said there was no time; in fact, she showed Leonard the schedule as proof. Leonard saw on the schedule where Gates was staying, and went there with Raj and Howard to meet the man and tell him how much Gates had influenced his life.

At the meeting Leonard became emotional and began to cry, and Gates remembered meeting Leonard as a boy, because he cried then too. Afterwards, Leonard was too embarrassed to attend a reception for Gates when Penny made the offer, and when she Skyped him in order to introduce her husband, Gates said that he already had met Leonard. (Season 11/Episode 18.
7. "The Platonic Permutation" - Volunteer at homeless shelter

Answer: Elon Musk

Howard was not especially thrilled to volunteer at the homeless shelter on Thanksgiving Day with Bernadette, Raj, and Emily, but it was either that or go to the aquarium with Sheldon. After his wife and friends left him washing dishes so they could have a better task, he miraculously met Elon Musk in the wash room. Musk not only agreed to give Howard his contact information, he also suggested that they share a half-eaten piece of pumpkin pie that had come in on a dirty plate. (Season 9/Episode 9)
8. "The Hawking Excitation" - Guest lecturer needs help with wheelchair

Answer: Stephen Hawking

When Stephen Hawking visited CalTech he needed help keeping in wheel chair in running order, and Howard was chosen for the job. Sheldon wanted Howard to use his position in order to gain an introduction to the great man, which Howard agreed to do - if Sheldon would meet certain conditions.

After Sheldon went through a series of mundane and embarrassing tasks, Howard gave Sheldon's paper to Professor Hawking. The great Sheldon had, apparently, made a simple math mistake, and after being told about it, abruptly fainted. (Season 5/Episode 21). Professor Hawking would appear (or his voice would) on the "Big Bang Theory" six more times after that by the time of the series conclusion.
9. "The Proton Displacement" - Nemesis of Professor Proton

Answer: Bill Nye

Professor Proton, played by Bob Newhardt, was a popular guest on the BBT. The guys, especially Sheldon, idolized him their entire lives, watching his television show as younger children. The problem was that Arthur Jeffries, who played the character Professor Proton, wanted to be taken seriously as a scientist in his own right.

Sheldon was too overbearing in dealing with Jeffries, so he asked Leonard to read a paper he had written. Sheldon, therefore, found a new "Science Guy", Bill Nye, to be his friend.

In the end Sheldon was abandoned by Nye at the coffee shop and served with yet another restraining order. (Season 7/Episode 7)
10. "The Holographic Excitation" - Man hands out Halloween candy

Answer: Buzz Aldrin

When Howard returned from the International Space Station, he was a bit full of himself, making sure that everyone he met knew of his very important accomplishment. His friends, however, grew tired of the constant boasting, and were less than impressed by his attitude; they really didn't even want to be around him. Howard was too obtuse to notice the kind hints, even from Bernadette, and finally Raj had enough.

He sent Howard a video of Buzz Aldrin handing out Halloween candy to children. He, too, was boasting that he had taken part in a famous space mission - of course, he was the second man to walk on the moon - perhaps a much greater accomplishment than Howard's! Howard finally understood. (Season 6/Episode 5)
