Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which team utilized an Express Pass during the race's first Detour (in Leg 2)?

Answer: Hamilton and Michaelia

Teams found the first Detour of the race in Santiago, the capital city of Chile. At the end of the leg, teams could either choose 'Motion', a dance involving Easter Island traditional garb, or 'Emotion', in which teams recited a poem by Gabriela Mistral from memory. Hamilton and Michaelia, worried about the revealing outfits from Rapa Nui, skipped the Detour entirely and went on to win the leg. Every other team, except Nic and Sabrina, would finish the 'Motion' task.
2. In Leg 3, those choosing to 'Dance' for their Detour task were told to learn which of these Argentine staples?

Answer: The Tango

In Leg 3, teams had to deal with either Argentinean dance or food. The dance of choice in 'Dance' was the tango, and teams partaking needed to learn an intricate dance to get their clue. Teams who didn't want to learn the choreography instead went with 'Dine', which required that they complete a series of orders, one partner relaying the dishes to the other who would make the dishes to serve back. Both Detour choices only had six spaces for racers to take, so clever strategy definitely played a role in advancing in a timely manner.
3. During the fourth leg of the race in Halifax, teams completing 'Suds' had to deliver which of these?

Answer: Beer

In Halifax, teams needed to complete a Detour before heading to the Pit Stop. In this one, teams needed to complete either 'Bubbles' or 'Suds'. In 'Bubbles', teams had to catch four lobsters in a tank at Dalhousie University and tag them with transmitters to complete the task.

In 'Suds', teams had to deliver boxes of beer throughout Downtown Halifax and return their empty kegs to get their next clue. While more teams initially attempted 'Bubbles', most ended up backing out and completing 'Suds' instead.
4. How many teams were U-Turned in the Magdalen Islands in Leg 5?

Answer: Two

Following the Detour in Leg 5 on the Magdalen Islands, teams needed to make their way to L'Escalier de la Pointe aux Meules to find the first Double U-Turn of the race and there, two teams-- Brent and Sean and Nic and Sabrina-- were forced to complete both Detour tasks to continue on in the race. Brent and Sean were U-Turned by Gino and Jesse and, to ensure their safety, they ended up U-Turning the second team. By completing their second task, they were able to retain their Express Pass.
5. During Leg 6 in Sudbury, Ontario, where did teams complete their Detour tasks?

Answer: Laurentian University

In Leg 6, teams visited two vastly different locations on the Laurentian University campus for their Detour. In 'Synchronize' (completed by Brent and Sean), teams hopped into a pool to memorize and participate in a synchronized swimming routine while in 'Analyze' (completed by Brian and Cynthia, Neil and Kristin, Nick and Matt, Nic and Sabrina, Dujean and Leilani, and Simi and Ope), teams instead headed into the woods to plot and graph the results of crime scene findings.

The catch? Only four teams could participate in either Detour task at any given time, so some had to wait. Gino and Jesse did not complete the Detour, having claimed the race's only Fast Forward clue.
6. In Saskatoon (in Leg 7), teams needed to complete Detour tasks involving which native peoples?

Answer: Northern Plains Indians

Teams participated in either 'Mikwap' or 'Nimitook' in Leg 7, bringing them to Wanuskewin Heritage Park in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to learn about the Northern Plains Indians. In the former task, teams built a traditional teepee to proper expectations while in 'Nimitook', teams instead had to learn a traditional hoop dance, recreating five different spirit animal shapes in time to the music.

When this was done, teams ran on to their next Pit Stop.
7. During the eighth leg of the race (in Kolkata), how many yoga poses did teams learn in the 'Tuck' Detour task?

Answer: Six

Teams completed their Detour at the end of the eighth leg with a choice between either 'Tuck' or 'Roll'. In 'Tuck', teams had to head to a local residence and learn six different partnered yoga poses which, when completed, would result in their receiving a clue. Brent and Sean and Dujean and Leilani did this task.

The other four teams went with 'Roll', which required that they use rickshaws to deliver items through the streets of Kolkata. Following this, they headed off to the Pit Stop.
8. In the ninth leg of the race, teams wrapped turbans during one of the Detour options in Delhi.

Answer: False

Teams wrapped turbans during this leg's Road Block task. Instead, during the Detour, teams needed to either 'Slam It' or 'Spice It'. In 'Slam It', teams went to a local wrestling club to learn and properly execute seven wrestling moves in order while in 'Spice It' they had to grind one hundred grams of chilis with a mortar and pestle. Nick and Matt, Gino and Jesse, and Dujean and Leilani chose the former while Simi and Ope and Brent and Sean chose the latter. Both tasks led teams to the Pit Stop at Humayun's Tomb.
9. In Leg 10, teams traveled to British Columbia. Was a Double U-Turn encountered?

Answer: Yes

Reaching Covert Farms in Oliver, British Columbia, teams completed either 'Brains' or 'Brawn' and rushed to the last Double U-Turn board of the race. Here, Gino and Jesse U-Turned Nick and Matt while Nick and Matt U-Turned Dujean and Leilani, ultimately burning out the last couple and eliminating them from the race.

Originally, all teams completed the 'Brawns' Detour option, powering through the task. The U-Turned teams needed to complete 'Brains' as a result.
10. The final Detour of the race was held in Leg 11 in which Canadian city?

Answer: Edmonton

In Edmonton, Alberta in Leg 11, teams found their final Detour task at the Edmonton Waste Management Centre where teams chose blindly between 'Paper' and 'Plastic', both of which involved local recycling efforts. In 'Paper', teams had to sort and bin a required amount of paper and non-paper items as they moved down a fast conveyor belt.

In 'Plastic', they had to properly disassemble six tube television sets without breaking any pieces. Following this, teams headed to a Face-Off task.
