Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many Road Block tasks did teams complete in Toronto during this season of the race?

Answer: Two

In the first leg of the race, the twelve competing teams flew to Toronto, Ontario to complete their tasks, and this meant that all racers would be completing a Road Block before heading out of the country. The first task, held at the TSN television studios, required that one chosen team member hop in front of the camera and properly recite a complicated sportscast with news host James Duthie.

The second, sending teams to Ontario Place, required that the other team member complete a complicated obstacle course including a rolling log/balance test, a rope wall, and a three story drop into the water.

There was no Detour as a result of these tasks.
2. During Leg 3, teams needed to use Mentos to spell the names of famous Argentinians. Which was not amongst them?

Answer: Jorge Luis Borges

Arriving in a barrio of Buenos Aires, team members had to complete a mental Mentos Road Block task in which they had to search through the stalls of the local streets for three selling Mentos candies, then return them to a playground to keep a letter puzzle. With the letters showing on each candy, they needed to spell the names of Eva Peron, Pope Francis, Diego Maradona, and Carlos Gardel.

When Sabrina, Cynthia, Neil, Nick, Dana, Dujean, Brent, Hamilton, Jesse, and Simi completed the task, they could continue on with the leg
3. In Leg 4, team members needed to find a flag at which Canadian landmark?

Answer: Citadel Hill

In Leg 4, teams flew to Halifax and during the Road Block, one member of each team needed to ascend up a ladder within the Angus L. Macdonald Bridge crossing between Halifax and Dartmouth. At the top, they would need to use binoculars to scan the city for a red and yellow race flag where their next clue box could be found.

This sent them to the top of Citadel Hill. Michaelia, Nic, Brian, Leilani, Nick, Sean, Jesse, Kristin, and Ope all ended up completing the task to continue on.
4. In Leg 5, teams visited the Magdalen Islands. During the Road Block, many participants were in danger of which of the following?

Answer: Cold temperatures

Heading to the beach for a cold Road Block task in Leg 5, team members needed to bury their partners in the sand and build elaborate sand structures around them to get their next clue. The issue that arose, as many teams found out, was the cold temperature of the waters beneath the buried racers (as they visited in May). What resulted was a great deal of pain; Kristin was later unable to complete the Face Off task in this leg of the race and had to participate in a less favourable Detour task.
5. Teams completing the CPR Road Block task in Sudbury in Leg 6 were not judged on which of the following criteria?

Answer: Hygiene

Team members needed to properly learn how to perform CPR and do so on a dummy (resulting in a surviving patient) to get the clue sending them to the Pit Stop. To do this, however, participants needed to follow through with good set-up, hand positions, compression rate, compression depth, and recoil. If they got through with all five of these accounted for, they would get their next clue. Matt, Cynthia, Sean, Simi, Kristin, Nic, and ?? finished this up. Neither Gino nor Jesse completed the task, having claimed the Fast Forward clue.
6. During the eighth leg of the race, six team members needed to search through which of these for a photo match?

Answer: Idols

Heading to Kolkata, India, teams needed to find a Road Block task at the Kumartuli Potters' Colony near Bagbazar Ghat on the Hooghly River. There, one member of each team (Nick, Gino, Simi, Brent, Brian, and Leilani) needed to use a picture of a constructed idol to pick out one of hundreds sharing the same defect as in their photo (in some cases this was a different colour item of clothing or nail polish or extra pieces).

When they identified the correct idol, they got their clue.
7. In India, how many team members participated in the turban-wrapping Road Block task in Delhi, India?

Answer: Five

During the ninth leg of the race, only five teams remained, so when the racers arrived in Faily-Bartha Village in Delhi, India, five of the ten racers had to tie turbans for wedding-goers; each participant needed to help three men with different turban styles shown to them by an instructor. If they could properly wrap the three different turbans they could continue on with the race. Matt, Ope, Dujean, Gino, and Sean completed this task.
8. During the tenth leg of the race, which team member completed the wakeboarding Road Block task?

Answer: Matt

Heading to the Summerland Waterfront Resort in British Columbia, teams battled it out in this Road Block by wakeboarding through a two-part ramp course. The first ramp was flat, and team members needed to stay standing for three seconds after the obstacle.

The second was an incline, and as long as they hit the obstacle and went over, they would receive their next clue. Matt, Jesse, Sean, Simi, and Leilani completed this solo task.
9. During Leg 11, the Road Block found in Edmonton, Alberta forced participants to perform a skit as the owner of which of these?

Answer: A saloon

In Leg 11, teams raced to Kelly's Saloon for their final task finding it in Fort Edmonton Park in Edmonton, Alberta. There, one team member from each pair (in some cases, a specific team member, so as to even out Road Block counts going into the final leg) needed to memorize lines from a script and play the role of Kelly, a saloon owner.

When they hit their lines to perfection and played out the skit, they could receive their next clue to send them to the Pit Stop. Brent, Matt, Jesse, and Ope completed the task.
10. Two Road Blocks were found in the final leg of the race. Each racer still in the running completed a Road Block task in Leg 12.

Answer: True

As per the rules of a double Road Block leg, the team member who did not complete the first Road Block was required to complete the second. In this case, the first team member had to ride a bike along a plank two hundred feet above the ground atop BC Place in Vancouver.

The second team member had to search through hundreds of skis atop Whistler Mountain for a matching set, then use them to perform a ski jump into a pool on Blackcomb Peak. Following this last task, both team members could race to the Finish Line.
