Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the episode "The Way to Eden", hippies took over the Enterprise using the auxiliary control room. When Captain Kirk tried to negotiate with them, the hippie named Adam said: "He's got ____, real scared."

Answer: Jelly in the belly

Kirk still tried to reason with them, but eventually he, Spock and Scotty had to resort to trying to cut their way into the auxiliary control room with a phaser.
The role of Adam was played by actor Charles Napier, who played prison guard Lt. Boyle in the movie "Silence of the Lambs". In that film, Lt. Boyle suffered a gruesome death at the hands of Hannibal Lecter, played by Anthony Hopkins.
2. In the episode "Where No Man Has Gone Before", Gary Mitchell made a pass at the pretty new doctor, Elizabeth Dehner. When she verbally shot him down in front of everyone on the bridge, he mumbled that she was a "walking ____".

Answer: Freezer unit

Later in the episode, Gary Mitchell apologized for his insult.
Gary Mitchell was played by actor Gary Lockwood. "Star Trek" was not the only well-known science fiction that he's appeared in. He was also astronaut Frank Poole in the movie "2001: A Space Odyssey".
3. In the episode "Patterns of Force", Mr. Spock was captured by some Nazis. One of the Nazi officers noted that Spock had a "low forehead, denoting ____".

Answer: Stupidity

Spock reacted by raising one eyebrow, as if to say, "They don't know me very well, do they?" The Nazis considered him to be of an inferior race.
4. In the episode "Miri", the children had invented a somewhat derogatory term for the adults. What was the term?

Answer: Grups

The children were understandably suspicious of adults, because all the adults of their planet went violently insane due to a disease. Kirk had to make one of his famous speeches to convince them he was not an enemy (although the kids beat him up a bit first).
5. In the episode "A Taste of Armageddon", the planet leader, Anan 7, said to Captain Kirk, "My first impression was correct. You are a ____."

Answer: Barbarian

Anan 7 called Kirk a barbarian because Kirk was destroying their planet's method of combat: fighting wars with computer simulations and then executing the projected casualties. The word "Barbarian" has not always been an insult. Originally, it simply referred to a person who is not a Greek.
6. In the episode "Journey to Babel", a heated argument ensued between Sarek (Spock's dad) and a Tellarite Ambassador. Sarek said: "Tellarites don't argue for reasons, they simply ____."

Answer: Argue

They were arguing over whether to accept the planet Coridan into the Federation. The argument was stopped by others, but later they argued again. The Tellarite Ambassador then lunged at Sarek, but Sarek easily knocked him back with his superior Vulcan strength.
7. In the episode "The Galileo Seven", Lt. Boma is unhappy with Spock's command decisions. He says to McCoy, "I'm sick and tired of this ____!"

Answer: Machine

Lt. Boma felt that Spock was heartless for leaving a dead crewman behind without a burial. Scotty responded to the insult by saying "That's enough!" Junior officers can be quite flippant in the 23rd century.
8. In the episode "Shore Leave", Captain Kirk gets in a fist fight with someone who appears to be an old rival named Finnegan, from Star Fleet Academy. Finnegan, responding to a question from Kirk, says: "I never answer questions from ____, Jimmy-boy!"

Answer: Plebes

Kirk responded by saying "I'm not a plebe!" He was determined to get some answers from Finnegan about the strange events that were happening to his crew. It turned out that the planet was one big amusement park! A "plebe" is a cadet or military trainee.
9. In the episode "This Side of Paradise", Kirk had to taunt Spock in order to free Spock's mind from the hypnotic spell of alien spores. He ended a torrent of insults with the following: "You should be in a circus, Spock, not a starship. Right next to the ____!"

Answer: Dog-faced boy

Spock and Kirk then duked it out in the transporter room, broke a few things, until finally Spock snapped out of the spell of the alien spores. Then Kirk and Spock rescued the rest of the crew.
10. In the episode "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield", two aliens from the planet Cheron have a feud on the Enterprise. They are each black on one side and white on the other. One of the aliens says to the other: "You've combed the galaxy and come up with nothing but ____, do-gooders and bleeding hearts."

Answer: monocolored trash

The episode illustrated the utter absurdity of racism. One of the aliens was white on the right side, the other was white on the left side. Because of this, they were sworn enemies. The two aliens fought each other on the Enterprise, and then returned to their home planet, where they continued to fight even though everyone else was dead.
