Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the race's first leg, some teams visited Shinjuku Central Park in Tokyo, Japan to learn dance moves from which performers?

Answer: World Order

Eleven teams took off from outside Los Angeles, California and proceeded directly to the city of Tokyo, Japan for their first leg of the race, and while half the teams were composed of existing relationships (dating, specifically), half were formed at the start by single racers. Nonetheless, teams needed to work out their kinks quickly as they traveled around the Chiyoda and Shinjuku wards completing their first Detour and encountering a Blind Double U-Turn (which was doubly used).

This leg saw a complicated choreography Detour taught by Japanese performers World Order, whose robotic dancing formed the basis of the task.
2. Visiting Nagano, Japan in Leg 2, teams encountered which of these at the entrance to Matsushiro Castle?

Answer: Road Block

The first Road Block of the race was faced by ten teams as they took the bullet train from Tokyo to Nagano, the site of the 1998 Winter Olympics. Arriving in front of Matsushiro Castle, teams had to select one member each to open a Japanese puzzle box, and for some teams, this involved leaning on partners they'd met no more than a couple days prior. Teams completing this leg also had the chance to indulge in a romantic noodle dish or go skating on an Olympic speed skating rink before heading to the Pit Stop. CJ and Libby, who lost time taking a selfie at Shinagawa Station, were eliminated in tenth.
3. Teams visited Patong Beach in Leg 3, arriving in what Thai resort town?

Answer: Kathu

After spending two legs of the race in wintery Japan, nine teams flew southwest to the nation of Thailand, landing in Phuket in the third leg of the race and making their way through the beaches, tourist drags, and rainforests of Kathu. In this leg of the race, teams not only went ziplining and (possibly) wakeboarding for the Detour, but they had to dress up to perform choreography in a ladyboy show before checking in at the Pit Stop. Notably, Matt proposed to his girlfriend of three years, Ashley, on the Pit Stop mat at the end of this leg (they placed sixth this time).
4. To conclude Leg 4, teams arrived at Loha Prasat, a Bangkok landmark containing what Buddhist temple (and the Pit Stop)?

Answer: Wat Ratchanatdaram

Although teams remained in Thailand in Leg 4, they headed northward to the capital city of Bangkok (by plane) and completed their tasks throughout one of Asia's largest cities. After all teams completed relay races for their Detour, engaging with two series of tasks situated around the city's unique modes of transport, they got their hands dirty for a mechanical Road Block and checked in in front of Loha Prasat.

The writing seemed to be on the wall from the get-go though. Harley and Jonathan checked into Leg 3 late, were spared by non-elimination, and struggled to catch up in Leg 4.

They didn't, and were sent home without seeing other teams for the bulk of two legs.
5. Teams climbed to the top of Munich's Alter Peter Tower in Leg 5, searching for which of these from its observation deck?

Answer: Vehicles

Teams left the warmth of Thailand in Leg 5 and flew directly to the cold winter of Bavarian Germany to complete a series of tasks in the mountains of the Alps. Arriving in Munich, teams had to dress in local garb and drive themselves (in standard-operated Ford vehicles) through Bavaria completing Oktoberfest-themed tasks and wooing each other with traditional activities. Teams checked into the Pit Stop on the edge of an alpine lake, but Bergen and Kurt never made it, instead falling so far behind with penalties incurred throughout the leg that Phil had to find and eliminate them in a train station.
6. During the sixth leg of the race, teams stopped off for a round of roulette at which of these casinos?

Answer: Casino de Monte Carlo

The sixth leg of the race brought teams out of the humble villages of Southern Germany and took them to the high-class, glamorous city-state of Monaco on the French Riviera. For this leg, teams dressed up in fineries before taking a helicopter into the city for chocolates and roses.

Then, after stopping off at the Casino de Monte Carlo for a spin on the roulette wheel, they took off into the south of France to complete one of two Detour choices. The leg ended in the town of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat where another blind date team, Jeff and Jackie, were sent packing in a tense and hard-to-navigate race to the Pit Stop.
7. During the 'Play' Detour in Leg 8, teams climbed the dunes of the Namib Desert with which of these?

Answer: Cross-country skis

Heading into the desolate but sublime landscape of the Namib Desert, teams dove into either 'Work' or 'Play' in the Leg 8 Detour, opting to help locals smooth their roads or going cross-country sand skiing. Notably, two teams used the Double U-Turn on two other teams in this Leg, forcing them to complete both sides of the challenge. Additionally, Jelani and Jenny used the Express Pass for this task to skip 'Play'; the U-Turn forced them to do 'Work' anyways. Both Legs 7 and 8 took the final six teams to Namibia, and over those legs, Aly and Steve fell behind enough that they didn't continue past this stage of the race.
8. The canals of Amsterdam were the backdrop for Leg 9. How many teams travelled there?

Answer: Five

Only five teams remained as the race course wound its way back into Europe, having left the continent for Namibia at the start of Leg 7. Teams rushed through Amsterdam, mostly on bikes, during this Leg and faced a klompen-themed Road Block. The Detour choice took the teams through the chilly canals of wintery Amsterdam before checking it at an ice rink in front of the Rijksmuseum.

This leg ended up being a non-elimination leg, so Matt and Ashley were spared from elimination.
9. The coastal Peruvian city of Huanchaco was the site of which of these in Leg 11?

Answer: A non-elimination Pit Stop

Teams descended from the Andes in this penultimate leg of the race and faced a number of tough situations ranging from exhausting tasks to car troubles coming out of the mountains. Nonetheless, the four remaining teams headed onward to their Pit Stop at the church overlooking the town of Huanchaco, Peru to find that they'd all made it to the final leg-- beginning immediately. Though Mike and Rochelle arrived in last place, they were granted a reprieve not unlike Amy and Maya in the previous season.

This was the second such time in the history of the show to see four teams racing to the final destination city.
10. Reunion Tower was one of the final landmarks visited by teams in what U.S. city, their final destination of the race?

Answer: Dallas

The final four teams proceeded to Dallas and the surrounding area for Leg 12 and completed two Road Blocks and a handful of tough active Route Info tasks on their way to the finish line. After some football at AT&T Stadium, three teams continued on to a cattle drive and Mike and Rochelle were eliminated early (and taken directly to the finish line). Team members rappelled down Reunion Tower and completed a final memory challenge on the edge of the Trinity River and Laura and Tyler emerged victorious, claiming the million dollar prize for placing first in this final stretch of the race course.
