Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which team completed both sides of the race's first Detour in Tokyo, Japan?

Answer: Jeff and Lyda

Although it was only the first leg of the race, teams were warned at the starting line that they would be encountering a Blind Double U-Turn before heading to the first Pit Stop. Though both Mike and Rochelle and Jeff and Lyda used the U-Turn (on Jeff and Lyda and Jeff and Jackie respectively), the latter did so late in the leg.

They were forced to complete both Detour tasks and were eliminated in eleventh place. In this Leg, teams either completed 'Syncing Steps', joining local musicians World Order, to learn the choreography to one of their songs, or 'Samurai Sake', where they had to memorize the names of ten sakes, take a drink order, and relay it to their partner at the bar. Jeff and Jackie and Harley and Jonathan were the only ones to voluntarily complete the sake task.
2. The Detour in Nagano, Japan (in Leg 2) was nearly a blind choice. Which was completed by more teams?

Answer: 'Share'

Arriving at Nishi-guchi Zenkō-ji in Nagano, teams found a choice between two vague task names 'Share' and 'Care') and had to head to their destinations to get more information about what the tasks would end up being. In 'Share', teams visited a noodle bar where they had to feed each other fresh noodles in front of a blowing fan. If they could clear their bowls they would get to head to the Pit Stop.

In 'Chair', teams visited the Olympic Speed Skating rink and had to take turns pushing each other around the track in ice skates for a combined time of three minutes, fifty-five seconds. Laura and Tyler, Jelani and Jenny, Harley and Jonathan, Bergen and Kurt, Mike and Rochelle, and CJ and Libby completed 'Share' while Aly and Steve, Jeff and Jackie, Matt and Ashley, and Hayley and Blair completed 'Chair'.
3. Although some teams attempted the 'Ski' Detour task in Leg 3 (in Thailand), all nine teams completed the 'Tree' task instead.

Answer: True

Visiting the south of Thailand in Leg 3, two teams attempted the 'Ski' Detour option in which they had to perform one lap wakeboarding a course around a wave park. It proved too tough, and as such all teams completed 'Tree' instead in which they had to act as waiters and use a zipline to deliver full meals (including a fruit plate, a sandwich plate, a bowl of soup, two spoons, a flower vase, a glass of champagne, and a glass of juice) through a treetop dining area. Mike and Rochelle, Matt and Ashley, Hayley and Blair, Jelani and Jenny, Bergen and Kurt, Laura and Tyler, and Harley and Jonathan went for this on their first-go while Aly and Steve and Jeff and Jackie changed Detours.
4. Both Detour options in Bangkok, Thailand in Leg 4 featured a complex series of to-dos. Which one ended at a cat cafe?

Answer: 'Wheel'

Both Detours in this fourth leg involved a relay of tasks throughout the city of Bangkok consisting of deliveries and activities. In 'Water', teams traveled on foot to a longtail boat dock and took a ride to a local market to eat a 1,000 year old egg.

After receiving a placard they could head to a local shrine to make a traditional offering to get their clue. The catch was that only the first five teams to arrive at the task could catch the boats. Laura and Tyler, Matt and Ashley, Aly and Steve, Mike and Rochelle, and Bergen and Kurt managed to snag their rides.

The other four teams (Hayley and Blair, Jelani and Jenny, Jeff and Jackie, and Harley and Jonathan) took tuk-tuks to a local snooker club. When they sunk a red ball they could receive a bottle of milk to deliver to the Caturday Cafe whereupon they would feed the contents to the cats there to receive their next clue.
5. During Leg 5's 'Stack' Detour, what were teams stacking?

Answer: Beer crates

Arriving at Schliersee, teams navigated its waters by paddleboat in order to receive their Detour information and choose between 'Stein' and 'Stack'. In 'Stein', teams traveled to a local beerhall to celebrate Oktoberfest and were required to share the weight of carrying twenty-two beer steins (in one go) through the busy establishment, along a marked course to the end.

In 'Stack', teams took a different approach to beer, stacking beer crates in vertical towers in an open field. If they could stack fifteen without toppling their tower, they could get their clue. Only Aly and Steve and Matt and Ashley completed 'Stein' while all other teams headed to 'Stack'.
6. Leg 6's Detour was a rare instance in which teams didn't have a choice in their selection. This was because their tasks were decided by which of these?

Answer: Roulette

Heading to Monaco in Leg 6, the racers visited the Casino de Monte Carlo to get their Detour clue, but this was done in a surprising and unique manner. While teams normally get a choice between the two tasks, this time they were forced into a spin on a roulette wheel; landing black gave them the instructions for 'Win By a Nose' (a perfume-themed challenge) while landing on red gave them 'Don't Slack Off' (which involved a zipline and slackline over Monaco).

The tasks were pretty evenly distributed with four teams landing black and three getting red.
7. In Namibia in Leg 8, two teams needed to do both Detour tasks. They originally completed 'Play', which meant that they also had to complete what other Detour option?

Answer: 'Work'

Visiting the dunes of the Namib Desert, the six teams competing in Leg 8 were tasked with either 'Work' or 'Play', both of which send them deep into the untracked sands of the region. Jelani and Jenny actually chose to skip the 'Play' Detour during their last possible Express Pass opportunity, but it wasn't enough to stop them from hitting the Double U-Turn after Matt and Ashley used it against them. Steve and Aly, also behind due to a Speed Bump, were forced to complete 'Work' when they were U-Turned by Laura and Tyler (who later placed first).
8. During the 'Soak' Detour task in Amsterdam (in Leg 9), teams had to solve a rebus puzzle with which answer?

Answer: Ice skating rink

In chilly Amsterdam in Leg 9, teams had to hop into the waters of the Amstel River or stay warm with a local shuffleboard variant. All of the remaining Blind Date teams went for a dip, hopping into electric hot tub boats in the Amstel River and completing rebus puzzles to locate their next Pit Stop (ice skating rink led to a clue sending them to the rink at Museumplein.

The long-dating teams took 'Shuffle', a Detour option that had them working together to score fifty-one points in a game of sjoelen.
9. The 'Papas' Detour in Leg 10, faced in Peru, sent teams sifting through which of these local crops?

Answer: Potatoes

Flying to South America in Leg 10, teams were up in the Andes Mountains for this penultimate Detour choosing between 'Mamas' and 'Papas'. In 'Mamas', teams collected ingredients from an Otuzco market to be delivered to La Seņora de La Chicha. Upon delivery, both members had to drink Peruvian moonshine before receiving their next clue.

In 'Papas', teams collected four sacks of potatoes and delivered them to the same market to be sorted. If they were sorted properly they'd get the clue, and if not they'd have to start sorting all over again. Hayley and Blair and Mike and Rochelle, who chose 'Mamas' completed the task quicker than the other three teams.
10. The final Detour of the race, encountered in Peru in Leg 11, involved a choice between manual labour and which of these skill-based activities?

Answer: Dancing

For their last choice, teams divided out between 'Shake Your Hips' and 'Make Some Bricks'. Jelani and Jenny and Mike and Rochelle chose the dancing task, forcing them to dress up and learn the moves and stylings of the Peruvian marinera. Hayley and Blair and Laura and Tyler, meanwhile, baked in the sun while making and wheeling around dozens of heavy adobe bricks at a local archaeological site near the city of Trujillo.
