Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the first episode of the season, sixteen designers were whittled down to fourteen. This was done with outfits created from which material?

Answer: Muslin

To begin season two, the pool of designers was increased to sixteen and the stakes were raised to include several new prizes. In the week before their arrival in New York City, the selected designers were sent a box containing six yards of muslin and a $20 bill with which they could purchase anything they needed to make their outfit reflect their personal styles. Upon arriving at the runway, they were given two hours and preselected models to show the clothes and, based on the designs, two would be sent home.

These two were John Wade and Heidi Standridge, the former of whom the judges decided didn't have the drive and the latter of whom the judges didn't think had the skill.
2. For their second challenge, the designers needed to reconstitute the clothes off their own backs. Kirsten Ehrig was sent home because she refused to utilize which piece of clothing?

Answer: Scarf

Heading out to the club after getting accepted to the show, the designers were told to dress up. Little did they know, their outfits would be the basis of the next challenge the following day-- all of them had to create a new outfit by re-purposing the outfits they wore. Chloe Dao, who reconstructed her blue jersey dress into a more chic outfit, ended up walking away with the win.

Her roommate, Kirsten Ehrig, ended up getting cut because she seemed not to want the win enough to use all of the clothes on her back.

She brought with her a scarf owned by her deceased grandmother and refused to incorporate it into the design.
3. For their third challenge, the designers designed miniature outfits for what popular children's toy?

Answer: Barbie

Taking a trip to Toys 'R' Us, the designers were told that their challenge for this week would involve creating both wearable life-size versions of outfits for a Barbie doll (and their models, dressed in blonde wigs) to match the rest of the My Scene Barbie collection. Nick Verreos won this challenge with a hippie-styled Barbie which the judges felt, in model form, looked exactly like a living Barbie.

His design was later incorporated into the line with his name and photo on the box. Raymundo Baltazar's design, claimed by the judges to look like a matronly woman instead of a surfer chick, got him cut.
4. In the fourth week of the competition, the designers teamed up to make lingerie lines. Which, judging by the eliminated designer, was claimed by the judges to be the losing theme?

Answer: Love-making

With $200, the designers were told by Heidi that they would need to create a mock-up of a lingerie line to be judged by her. She would pick the top four lines and those designers would head teams of three to create three pieces for the runway. These teams were led by Daniel Vosovic, who won the challenge with his 'Girlfriend's Revenge' line of simple, classy lingerie, Diana Eng, who created an S&M-styled Goddess collection, Santino Rice, who made a less-than-stellar line of Holland-themed outfits called 'Heidi's Homeland', and eventual eliminated contestant Daniel Franco, who took the blame for a dated collection called 'Love-Making'. Notably, Daniel Franco returned to the show after being eliminated in the first episode of "Project Runway's" first season.
5. In week six, the designers worked in teams to complete an outfit for Banana Republic. How many designers were eliminated?

Answer: Two

In the fifth week of the show, the designers were told that they would be creating runway gowns for socialite Nicky Hilton based on a dossier of info about her. Santino Rice won his second runway challenge by creating an outfit that appealed to the client, specifically because it matched her eye colour.

Although Marla Duran's design seemed to be a copy of a dress previously worn by Nicky (in the dossier, no less), it was Guadalupe Vidal's unwearable design that got her sent home. The following week, the designers were told to pair off into teams to create an outfit for Banana Republic which could be worn during the day, but convert into an evening piece. Daniel Vosovic and Andrae Gonzalo won the challenge while Diana Eng and Marla Duran were both sent home for their highly-criticized execution.
6. In week eight, the designers needed to seek inspiration from something out in the New York City streets. Which was not one of the proposed inspirations?

Answer: Hot dogs

In week seven, the designers were given figure skating outfits before a skating session with their muse and client, figure skater Sasha Cohen, who required a new outfit for an upcoming performance. The winner of this task was Zulema Griffin who created a skating-friendly, white outfit to pique Cohen's interest.

The judges cut Emmett McCarthy this week. In week eight, the designers were shocked when Zulema opted to have a walk-off between the models, ultimately deciding to swap hers for Nick's (and forcing him to take on a new one, originally Zulema's.

After meeting with Michael Kors, the designers were given Olympus digital cameras and told to seek inspiration in the city with which they would need to derive a dress. These inspirations were varied-- the winner, Daniel Vosovic, evoked an image of orchids he took in Michael Kors' office to claim victory. Zulema went home because her dress, which allegedly reflected an African woman's traditional garb, seemed unfinished.

Other inspirations included graffiti, no trespassing signs, and architecture.
7. The ninth challenge presented to the designers involved making garden party dresses from what material?

Answer: Flowers

The final six designers were brought by Tim Gunn to the flower district to go shopping for their new materials, all-natural plants and small odds and ends. The goal: to make a garden party dress made of...well...the garden. Although all of the materials were fresh and colourful, the designers needed to make them wearable.

The winner of the task was Daniel Vosovic who made use of more colour than the other designers; he beat out Chloe Dao who painstakingly glued leaves to her entire dress. Ultimately, Andrae Gonzalo was sent home for making a bland outfit out of mostly-green materials.

This left only five.
8. The final five were required to create a wardrobe makeover for a fellow contestant. Nick Verreos was eliminated for working on whose makeover?

Answer: Daniel's

In the tenth task of the show, the final five designers were told that their models would not be used; instead they'd create new complete looks for their fellow designers. Santino Rice and Kara Janx drew each other's names while Nick Verreos designed Daniel Vosovic, Chloe Dao designed for Nick, and Daniel designed Chloe.

They were given two days and $200. Chloe won by creating a sophisticated update for Nick's existing look while Nick was highly-criticized for Daniel's new suit as it was considered too feminine.

Despite Santino's failure to secure the sleeves of Kara's jumpsuit, it was Nick who went home.
9. The final four were given the task of creating an evening gown which was ultimately worn by what world-famous supermodel?

Answer: Iman

Although the task of creating an evening gown seemed simple, this was the last task before the final three would head to Olympus Fashion Week. The designs needed to reflect the designers and their upcoming collections as closely as possible while being fresh and innovative. Midway through the challenge, the designers were told that the winning design would be selected and worn by Iman at a red carpet event; it was Daniel Vosovic's simple blue design which won this challenge. Ultimately, Kara Janx was the final designer cut from the competition for bringing something too simple to the runway, yet again.
10. Which designer won "Project Runway" season two?

Answer: Chloe

The final three were finally sent home with an allotted amount of cash and time so that they could begin working on their twelve-piece collections for Olympus Fashion Week. When they returned to New York with their designs, they were shocked to discover that amidst all of the official business to attend to, they would need to bring a formerly-eliminated designer along to help them create a thirteenth and final piece to bring the collection together. Santino Rice came in third because the judges thought he was too restrained when he tried to show sophistication; Daniel Vosovic came in second place despite a strong showing. Chloe Dao ultimately won because her collection was strong all-around and considered flattering to women (despite a lack of showmanship on the runway).

She won a mentorship with Banana Republic, a new 2006 Saturn Sky convertible, an "Elle" magazine spread for herself and her model, Grace, and $100,000 in prize money.
