Now regarded as a cult classic, 17 episodes of "The Prisoner" were broadcast on British television between September 1967 and February 1968.
McGoohan starred as a secret agent who wanted to retire. He was kidnapped by the agency that employed him and imprisoned on a remote island.
There, no one had a name, they were called by a number. McGoohan was "Number Six".
Most of those on the island accepted their position, but Number Six did not and rebelled against the authorities. His constant mantra was "I am not a number, I am a free man."
