Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Leg 7, teams headed to a mystery destination in Ontario. Where did they end up?

Answer: Kitchener-Waterloo

Starting Leg 7 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan early in the morning, teams were told to fly back to Toronto, Ontario, where the race began, and make their way through the airport. There, they had to board one of two blacked-out buses that would take them to their mystery destination: Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, west of the provincial capital. Upon arriving, teams had to go to TheMuseum and find the SPECTRUM exhibition area.

There, one at a time, team members needed to hop into a green ball pit containing 30,000 green balls.

When they obtained one of twelve red or yellow balls they could get their next clue.
2. During Leg 7 (in Ontario), one team had to complete a Speed Bump task.

Answer: True

Arriving last in Leg 6 (back in Saskatchewan), Trish and Amy were forced to complete a Speed Bump shortly after arriving in the twin cities of Kitchener and Waterloo. For this additional task, they needed to hop into the Chevrolet Bolt EV and drive to the other side of the University of Waterloo. Once there, Trish and Amy met with engineers to hop behind the wheels of an autonomous vehicle, taking a ride around the campus in a self-driving car. Completing the task, Trish and Amy received their Detour clue immediately.
3. Which applicable Detour option was completed by all of the teams in Ontario (in Leg 7)?

Answer: 'Robot Quest'

Teams unhindered by the Speed Bump instead headed straight to the Detour, a choice between 'Beerfest' and 'Robot Quest'. In 'Beerfest', teams celebrated Oktoberfest at the Concordia Club by choosing a table of ten partygoers and taking their beer orders.

While pouring the beers, teams would need to note that their customers would be getting up to dance and returning to the table in different seats. If they could deliver all ten beers to the correct people, they would get their clue. In 'Robot Quest', teams instead headed to the RoboHub at the University of Waterloo and split up. One team member watched a maze and fed instructions to their teammate via a walkie-talkie.

The second teammate would control the robot remotely to successfully navigate the course to get the clue. All teams went to 'Robot Quest'.
4. Teams competed in their first Face Off of the race in Leg 7 (in Ontario). This involved which of the following?

Answer: Cooking

After the Detour, teams received a clue for their first Face Off of the race, going head-to-head to make Dempsters-related dishes at a culinary studio in Kitchener. They would need to study the finished food presented to them for one minute and then, in fifteen minutes, go head-to-head against another team to recreate the plate from memory.

The team with the closest judged dish could move on. The last team, Trish and Amy, had to flip over an hourglass and wait out the time. Following this, the teams headed to the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics in Waterloo to solve an equation relating to gravity. If teams could determine a value for the distance of a dropped ball, they could get their next clue.
5. Which team was eliminated in Ontario at the end of Leg 7?

Answer: Trish and Amy

Completing the last of their physics work in Waterloo, teams received a final clue sending them to the Knight-Newbrough Field on the campus of Wilfrid Laurier University. There, in the center of the field, they could step on the mat at the seventh Pit Stop of the race. Dave and Irina were the first to step on the mat, leading on their way out of the Face Off and staying in the lead to take their third victory of the race.

This time the couple won a trip for two to Frankfurt, Germany. The last team to step on the mat in this leg ended up being Trish and Amy, who trailed for the entirety of the leg.

This time, they were eliminated.
6. In Leg 8, teams travelled to which region in Québec?

Answer: Charlevoix

Commencing Leg 8 of the race, teams needed to board a train that would take them from Kitchener-Waterloo, through Toronto, north to Montreal, further northeast to Québec City, and onward to the town of La Malbaie in Charlevoix, Québec. Upon arriving, the five competing teams needed to stop off at Chez Chantal near the train station and peel twenty-five potatoes before receiving their next clue and two servings of local Québec poutine.
7. Who completed the G7-themed Road Block task in Quebec in Leg 8?

Answer: Irina

After their poutine task, teams were told to drive themselves to the Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu, the site of the 2018 G7 Summit in La Malbaie, where one member of each team had to complete the leg's Road Block. For this task, the selected team members (James, Irina, Thinesh, Sam, and Joanne) needed to memorize a mock G7 speech in both English and French to be spoken before an audience.

Then, they had to receive three questions, each in different languages, to be answered with supplied answers, also in other languages. If they could make it to the end correctly, they could receive their next clue.
8. Teams faced a Blind Detour in Leg 8. How many teams completed 'That'?

Answer: Three

Following their Road Block, teams were given a Blind Detour, indicating a choice between two tasks with no hint of their contents until they arrived at their sites; they chose between 'This' and 'That'. In 'That', teams headed to Famille Migneron De Charlevoix in Baie-Saint-Paul where both racers had to learn how to play the game of pick-lit, which involves hitting a wooden peg into the air and swatting it across a scoring field. Once the teams obtained combined scores of 200, they could get the next clue. Aarthy and Thinesh, Dave and Irina, and Sarah and Sam completed this task.
9. In Leg 8, teams choosing the Detour option marked 'This' had to paint which of the following?

Answer: Eggs

If teams chose 'This' instead of 'That' (as Lauren and Joanne and Anthony and James did), they had to drive themselves to the Centre de l'émeu de Charlevoix in Saint-Urbain. There, teams were tasked with painting two emu eggs based on two already-painted examples, each one showing a different colourful house.

When the eggs were painted to the approval of the original artist, they could take the eggs into town and find one of the two houses depicted, trade in the eggs, and collect their next clue.
10. Which team was last to arrive at the mat in Quebec in Leg 8?

Answer: Anthony and James

After completing their Detour tasks, teams were informed that they would need to head to their next Pit Stop at the Musée Maritime de Charlevoix in Saint-Joseph-de-la-Rive. Aarthy and Thinesh, who led all the way from the Road Block, arrived in first place to take their third victory, this time winning a trip for two to Santiago, Chile.

In a footrace with Sarah and Sam, it was Anthony and James who landed on the mat in last place. They were, however, told to keep racing and were handed their next clue, sparing them from elimination.
