Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Leg 5, teams returned to what earlier-seen province?

Answer: British Columbia

Seven teams started the fifth leg of the race on the streets of Yellowknife, British Columbia and opened their first clue informing them that they would need to fly back to British Columbia, this time flying through Vancouver's Harbour Air Terminal to the city of Nanaimo on the coast of Vancouver Island. Four seaplanes allowed two teams at a time to travel to Nanaimo fifteen minutes apart. Upon arriving, teams needed to hop into a Chevrolet Camaro and drive themselves to Petroglyph Provincial Park to find their next clue.
2. In Leg 5, teams had to memorize the ingredients of which of these Canadian foods while performing high-intensity activities?

Answer: Nanaimo bar

Teams arrived at Petroglyph Provincial Park to find their next clue waiting with a backpack and several items to be used in the fifth leg of the race, all of which were sponsored by the film "Dora and the Lost City of Gold". When they opened the clue, they were told to head to WildPlay Element parks where they needed to memorize the ingredients in a Nanaimo bar (a Canadian treat named after the city).

Then, one team member had to bungee jump while the other performed a tandem rope swing. At the end of the task, they had to recite the ingredients from memory to get their next clue. If they didn't get all the ingredients in each layer, they had to perform the task again.
3. For their Speed Bump in Leg 5, Trish and Amy needed to construct the skeleton of which of these?

Answer: Whale

After the jumps, teams headed to the Deep Bay Marine Field Station where Trish and Amy (in the lead at the time) had to complete their Speed Bump task. For this, they had to work together to assemble assemble an orca whale skeleton using thirty-seven pieces found throughout a museum room (and one of which would be in their backpack). All other racers kept going, using a reference board and samples to locate and identify clams on the nearby beach at low tide. Once they dug up the proper amounts of four varieties, they could continue on to their next task.
4. Teams used which of these tools to aid them in the spelunking Road Block task in Leg 5?

Answer: Smartphone

Completing the clam task, teams found the Road Block for the fifth leg which asked 'who's the photog on your team?'. For this task, one member of each team needed to head into Horne Lake Provincial Park and, using a box provided by The Source, use an enclosed Huawei P30 Pro smartphone to go spelunking, photographing eleven letters to unscramble to spell out the location of their next Pit Stop on their backpack-provided whiteboard. Once they photographed the correct phrase, they could get their next clue. Dave, Lauren, Sarah, Trish, Marie, Aarthy, and Anthony completed this task.
5. Which penalized team was eliminated at the end of Leg 5?

Answer: Meaghan and Marie

At the end of Leg 5, teams raced to the city of Coombs to find the Goats on the Roof at the Old Country Market. Interestingly, because the majority of teams opted to take a two hour penalty to avoid completing the clam-digging task in Deep Bay, the first place position was up in the air. Because of the unique circumstances, while Trish and Amy were first to land on the mat, Sarah and Sam were the first team to check in, taking their first victory of the race.

They won a trip for two to Machu Picchu, Peru.

In the end of the leg, Meaghan and Marie took a penalty and also arrived on the mat in last place, sealing their fate and resulting in their elimination.
6. Teams flew to what Saskatchewan city in Leg 6?

Answer: Saskatoon

Leaving the east coast of Vancouver Island at the start of the sixth leg of the race, teams were sent to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in the middle of the Prairies, flying from Nanaimo to Calgary, Alberta and then onward to Saskatoon. Upon landing, teams needed to search for Canada's brightest light at Canadian Light Source.

There, at a machine that can shine a light brighter than the sun, teams could find their next clue box.
7. During the sixth leg of the race in Saskatchewan, teams dived into a mine for which of the following?

Answer: Potash

It was curtains for the teams after reaching Canada's brightest light as they were sent southwest of the city of Saskatoon to search for the Nutrien Cory Potash Mine in Corman Park, Saskatchewan. Once there, they had to suit up in full mining gear and head one kilometer below the Earth's surface into a working potash mine.

There, using a specialized tool, they had to hang plastic curtains along the ceiling of the mine, sealing the airflow at the top and bottom, to receive their next clue.
8. Which team chose the 'Dance in a Square' task during the Detour in Saskatchewan in Leg 6?

Answer: Trish and Amy

Following the mining task, teams headed to head to a local Shell gas station where they would be able to receive a tablet and a clue from family members back home. This sent them to the town of St. Denis and the Champêtre County Vacation Ranch where they received a Detour clue, a choice between 'Dance in a Square' and 'Walk in Circles'.

In 'Dance in a Square', teams visited the Howling Coyote Saloon where one team member had to memorize 19 square dance moves and announce them in time with the music while their partner learned the footwork.

In 'Walk in Circles', teams completed a barnboard maze, collecting four types of corn from within and finding their way out. Anthony and James, Lauren and Joanne, Sarah and Sam, Dave and Irina, and Aarthy and Thinesh all chose 'Walk in Circles'. Trish and Amy chose 'Dance in a Square'.
9. Teams participated in practice for which sport in Saskatchewan in Leg 6?

Answer: Lacrosse

After their Detour, teams headed to Victoria Park in Saskatoon where both team members needed to join the Saskatchewan Rush lacrosse team during a practice. For this task, one team member needed to pass the ball to the other and then the second team member would need to hit a target in the goal.

When this was done twice, the teams would receive their final clue of the leg, sending them to the next Pit Stop.
10. Which team was last to arrive at the Saskatchewan Pit Stop in Leg 6?

Answer: Trish and Amy

Completing their sporting task with the Saskatchewan Rush, the teams were told to make their way on foot to their next Pit Stop on the roof of the Remai Modern Art Museum on the Saskatchewan River. Anthony and James, who led the entire leg, were the first to step foot on the mat in Saskatoon. For winning this leg, they won a trip for two to Costa Rica and Shell gasoline awarded them with a full year of free gas.

The last team to step on the mat was Trish and Amy, who struggled with their Detour option. Fortunately for them, they were spared by a second non-elimination leg.
