Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The beginnings of faster-than-light space travel in "Star Trek" began with Zefram Cochrane, who developed and piloted the first warp ship. In which century did Cochrane accomplish this feat?

Answer: 21st

Zefram Cochrane was born in the year 2032 and developed the Warp engine in the 2060s with his first test flight in the year 2063.

The character of Zefram Cochrane was introduced in the "Star Trek: The Original Series" episode "Metamorphosis". The crew of the Enterprise found him on a planet in the year 2267, 150 years after he had disappeared. Apparently, a being called "The Companion" had rejuvenated him and kept him alive since then.

Since that "TOS" episode, Cochrane's history was further developed in the "Star Trek: First Contact" movie and the "Star Trek: Enterprise" series.
2. In the "Star Trek: Enterprise" episode "Azati Prime", Temporal Agent Daniels transported Captain Archer onto the USS Enterprise-J to witness the Battle of Procyon V. What century did they visit?

Answer: 26th

Temporal Agent Daniels took this action in an effort to prevent Captain Archer from going on a suicide mission. He wanted to show Archer that he was integral in the formation of the Federation, and the eventual defeat of the Sphere Builders. The action in Archer's time took place in the year 2153, making the jump into the possible future somewhere in the vicinity of 400 years.
3. The crew of the Enterprise was recalled to Earth to take part in an investigation in the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Time's Arrow". A cavern had been discovered near San Francisco with relics from the 17th century... including Data's severed head.

Answer: False

The relics were, in fact, from the 19th century. The investigation also found evidence pointing to an alien race from the planet Devidia II. They took Data's head to that planet and Data followed two aliens through a time portal back to San Francisco in the year 1893. During the rescue attempt by Picard and company, Data's head was severed from his body in a fight with the Devidians.

Back in the 24th century, Data's 500-year-old head was reattached to his body without any difficulty.
4. Quark, Rom and Nog of "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" traveled to Earth and inadvertently crash-landed on the planet. The found themselves in Earth's past - in what century?

Answer: 20th

The episode was called "Little Green Men". Quark's ship had been sabotaged and he couldn't drop out of warp. He used his contraband cargo, called kemocite, to create an explosion to effect a disruption of the warp field. It also had the unfortunate side-effect of creating a temporal rift in the process, and it threw them back to the year 1947 and a crash site near Roswell, New Mexico.

Fortunatly for the Ferengi trio, Constable Odo had stowed away, having suspected Quark of smuggling. With the help of an Army nurse, they escaped and were able to harness the energy of a scheduled nuclear test to recreate the accident and return to the present (the 24th century).
5. On Earth, Constantine I began the conversion of the Roman Empire to Christianity. On Vulcan, Surak was leading the "Time of Awakening". What century was it?

Answer: 4th

Surak's teachings were the foundation of the Vulcan philosophy of pursuing logic and controlling emotion. To the Vulcans of that time, it was a hard teaching, as they were a very passionate race. Not everyone agreed with Surak, and he was fiercely opposed by "those who marched beneath the raptor's wings". That contingent left Vulcan and settled on Romulus and Remus, forming a society that would one day become the Romulan Empire.
6. Kahless the Unforgettable overthrew the tyrannical Molor, united the Klingon people and established the laws of honor on which Klingon Empire would stand. When did he accomplish all of this?

Answer: The 9th century

A lot of the history of the legendary Kahless have surfaced through the years of "Star Trek" storylines. In comparing Klingon and Earth calendars, it was determined that Kahless died in the year 822 A.D. At the time of his death, Kahless promised that he would one day return to rule the Empire. Klingon warriors also believed that Kahless awaited them in Sto-vo-kor, the Klingon afterlife.
7. Using spaceships powered by solar sails, the Bajoran people reached for the stars, unfortunately encountering the Cardassian race in the process. During which century did this occur?

Answer: 16th

"Star Trek" canon has the Bajoran history extending back more than half a million years. The great First Republic flourished between 25,000 and 20,000 years ago. The first "Tears of the Prophet" were discovered approximately 10,000 years ago. Even with such a lengthy history, the Bajorans did not reach for the stars until the 16th century, with the development of sublight solar-sail spaceships.
8. According to the alien being that Captain Kirk and his crew encountered in the episode "Who Mourns for Adonis?", he and his kind had inhabited Earth and been worshiped as gods. Approximately when was that?

Answer: 27th century B.C.

An exact date was never given during the episode, but the god that the alien claimed to be was the Greek god Apollo. Kirk and McCoy concluded that Apollo's claim was true, and that the aliens had indeed come to earth 50 centuries ago and lived as the Greek pantheon. If you do the math, and take 50 centuries away from the 23rd century A.D., you are left with the 27th century B.C.
9. He was born as Akharin in Mesopotamia, and claimed to Captain Kirk that he had lived as Methuselah, King Solomon, Alexander the Great, Lazarus, Merlin, Leonardo da Vinci, and Johannes Brahms. In which century was this immortal human born?

Answer: 39th century B.C.

Featured in the "Original Series" episode "Requiem for Methuselah", Flint's birth year was given as 3834 B.C. According to Flint's story, he left Earth sometime in the 2230s and purchased the planet Holberg 917G in the year 2239. When Kirk and company encountered him in the year 2269, Flint was finally dying - due to no longer living within the complex magnetic fields of Earth which had given him his longevity.
10. Kirk's Enterprise traveled the galaxy in the 23rd century, and Picard's Enterprise-D got around in the 24th. In the "Next Generation" episode "Yesterday's Enterprise", Captain Picard and crew encountered the Enterprise-C in a temporal rift. They had come forward from the late 23rd century.

Answer: False

According to the records that Data referred to, the Enterprise-C disappeared in the year 2344 (to encounter the Enterprise-D in "Yesterday's Enterprise"). Guinan was the one to realize the damage that had been done to the real timeline. They managed to return the Enterprise-C to its time and restore things to the way they were before. What that meant for Captain Garrett's crew, unfortunately, meant destruction at the hands of the Romulans.
