Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Though the series debuted in 1966, it was set in the future. What year was it set in?

Answer: 1968

The other dates were used in other Irwin Allen series - "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" (1980), "Land of the Giants" (1983), and "Lost in Space" (1997).
2. What was the Code Name for the project?

Answer: Tic-Toc

It was a top-secret project known as Project Tic-Toc, and its symbol was an hourglass.
3. Where was the Time Tunnel complex located?

Answer: Under the Arizona desert

In the pilot, a senator was flown by plane to the middle of an Arizona desert, where he was picked up by a black limousine. The limousine then drove into a secret ramp that slid open to let them drive down it, and then closed back up after them.
4. The two time travelers were named Tony and Doug. What were their last names?

Answer: Newman and Phillips

Dr. Tony Newman, a young brash scientist, and Dr. Doug Phillips, slightly older and more experienced, traveled through time together. Smith and Williams were two people they posed as in "Secret Weapon". The other names are characters from "Lost in Space" and "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea".
5. What was the last name of the General in charge of the project?

Answer: Kirk

Lt. General Heywood (Woody) Kirk, played by Whit Bissell, ran the project. Dr. Raymond Swain was the head technician and Master Sergeant Jiggs was head of security.
6. What was the first place the time travelers landed?

Answer: On the Titanic

The four answers were the places they landed in the first four episodes.
7. Dr. Ann MacGregor was played by a former Miss America. Who played her?

Answer: Lee Meriwether

Lee Meriwether won the title in 1955. She once argued with Irwin Allen that her character should be allowed to wear more makeup. He finally called out to the crew, "Does anyone have Mary Ann Mobley's phone number handy?" Lee called his bluff and said, "Yes, I have it right here." Irwin laughed, and Lee won the argument.
8. How did each show end?

Answer: With a cliffhanger for the next episode

Like "Lost in Space", each show had a cliffhanger ending for the next show announcing "Next week...see this fantastic adventure in...The Time Tunnel". The other examples were inspired by "Quantum Leap", "24", and "The Wild, Wild West".
9. The Tunnel personnel were helped out by a young technician played by Sam Groom in some of the earlier episodes. What was his character name?

Answer: Jerry

Jerry appeared in "End of the World", "The Day the Sky Fell In", "Crack of Doom", "Secret Weapon", and "Night of the Long Knives". But then he just disappeared without a trace.
10. When someone was sent out of or brought into the Time Tunnel, what effect would accompany their arrival or departure?

Answer: Puffs of smoke

Like a magician, the time traveler would appear or disappear in a puff of smoke. Irwin Allen used the same technique in his other shows like "Lost in Space" or "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" to show various alien creatures being teleported somewhere else, or sometimes disintegrated.
