Giles had been a museum curator in England before he came to Sunnydale. In addition to being Buffy's watcher, he was the Sunnydale High School librarian.

2. Did Giles quit the Watcher's Council?

Answer: No

Giles did not quit. He was fired from the Watcher's Council because his affection for Buffy clouded his objectivity.

3. What was Rupert's nickname during his friendship with Ethan Rayne?

We never learned exactly how he got the nickname or who gave it to him, but Ethan always referred to him as Ripper.

He came back to Sunnydale loaded with the good power of the coven. Willow stole that power, which negated much of the negative energies she had consumed. That allowed Xander to reach her in time to talk her, almost literally, off of a ledge. Giles had similar experience with borrowed power at the end of season four, when he, Willow and Xander performed a spell that enjoined them with Buffy.

They made a super Buffy and she was able to defeat Adam.
