Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where was Mulder when the crew of the Queen Mary found him?

Answer: floating in the water

The crew fished him out of the water, but assumed he was a Nazi, so took him to the captain.
2. What did the sailors tell Mulder they had never heard of?

Answer: the FBI

Mulder tried to explain that he was an FBI agent, but they claimed to have never heard of it. The FBI had been around since 1908, though, so I guess those sailors were just a bit ill-informed about world governments. Mulder then launched into his theory about the ship being caught in the Bermuda Triangle, but the captain dismissed him, saying, "There's a war on. And in it or no, I don't plan to lose me mind nor me ship to the likes of a jackal like you." Mulder laughed at his gravity, saying, "You can relax.

There's no war going on. The world is at peace. There's a little trouble over at our White House but that'll blow over, so to speak."
3. How did Mulder find out that Britain had officially entered WWII?

Answer: radio

When the sailors and the captain left Mulder in the cabin, he went to the radio and tried to send out a distress call. When he turned the dial a bit more, though, he picked up a radio broadcast announcing Britain's entrance into the war "as of today, September 3, 1939." At that point, Mulder realized that he was the one who had traveled through time, rather than the ship!
4. As Mulder was being dragged out of the ballroom by Nazis, he shouted, "You're all big men now, but wait until you get into Russia. Hope you fellas _________."

Answer: like the cold

Mulder was referring to the fact that the Nazi incursion into Russia would be hindered by the cold Russian winters, for which the Nazis were ill-prepared.
5. Who did Mulder watch the Nazi officer order killed at the ship's helm?

Answer: ship's captain

After having the captain killed, the Nazi officer (1939 Cigarette Smoking Man) ordered Mulder's death, but 1939 Skinner interceded, pointing out that Mulder was American. Later, 1939 Skinner would shoot a Nazi officer, thus freeing 1939 Scully and Mulder.
6. Who did Scully go to first to obtain the swath imaging data?

Answer: Skinner

Skinner said he couldn't help her, so Scully went to Kersh. When she saw that the Cigarette Smoking Man was in his office, she went down to the basement and threatened Spender to get him to help her. Unfortunately, Spender went immediately to Kersh (of course!).
7. Who got Scully the swath imaging data she needed?

Answer: Skinner

As Scully was avoiding Kersh, Spender, and the Cigarette Smoking Man, she ran into Skinner in the elevator. He gave her the needed data, but when the doors opened, he stepped into the hall and reprimanded her loudly to save public face.

This scene, which went from one commercial break to the next, was shot in a single, extraordinarily filmed scene. The shot never cut, but followed Scully as she darted around the FBI offices searching for help.
8. After summing up the outcome of the war for one of the British sailors, what did Mulder say the British had to apologize for from the 50 years following?

Answer: The Spice Girls

Mulder told the sailor that the British came out "on the side of history with no small amount of help from [the United States]. Not much to apologize for over the next 50 years except for maybe the Spice Girls."
9. What did Mulder say Thor's Hammer was?

Answer: a man

When the Nazis herded Mulder and all the British sailors into the engine room, one of the sailors revealed that the Nazis had "intercepted a radio communication" and kept asking about a "code word" - Thor's Hammer. Mulder told them that it wasn't a weapon, but a man who would help build a bomb that would win the war for whoever had it.

Unfortunately, one of the sailors was actually a Nazi spy and told the Nazis what Thor's Hammer really was.
10. Who did Mulder say was the scientist?

Answer: dead passenger

Mulder insisted that the Nazis had already shot the scientist, but then the real scientist stepped forward to volunteer himself. Then 1939 Scully tried to claim that she was the scientist, but the real scientist revealed, "She's traveling with me to protect me.

She works for the OSS." The Nazis escorted the scientist out of the room and ordered 1939 Scully and Mulder to their knees so they could be shot.
11. What happened that made the Nazis pause before executing 1939 Scully and Mulder?

Answer: the engine shut down

Just after Mulder told 1939 Scully that the engines had been shut down, all of the British crew and sailors rushed into the ballroom and started a huge brawl with the Nazis. In the middle of the confusion, 1939 Scully and Mulder escaped.
12. What did 1939 Scully do after Mulder kissed her?

Answer: punched him

Mulder had led 1939 Scully to the deck of the ship and told her to turn the ship around so that the world wouldn't fall into Nazi hands or nuclear apocalypse. Then Mulder said, "So, in case we never meet again..." and pulled her in for a deep kiss. When he released her, Scully thought for a moment and then punched him with her right hand.

As Mulder held his jaw and said, "I was expecting a left," Scully rubbed her knuckles.
13. Where did Scully and The Lone Gunmen find Mulder?

Answer: floating in the water

Though Mulder and 1939 Scully crossed paths with Scully on the ship, the didn't see each other. In fact, Scully and The Lone Gunmen never saw anyone on the ship, and concluded it "nothing more than a ghost ship." They found Mulder floating in the water among the wreckage from the boat he'd been on.
14. What movie did both Scully and Skinner refer to in Mulder's hospital room?

Answer: The Wizard of Oz

Mulder woke up to find Scully in his room, and then Skinner and The Lone Gunmen joined them. Mulder told them that they were all "there" and Skinner replied dryly, "Right. Me and my dog Toto." Later, Mulder told Scully how grateful he was that Scully had saved the world, saying that if she hadn't believed him, they wouldn't exist in the present and would have never seen one another again.

She was pretty cynical about Mulder's claims, and told him, "I want you to close your eyes and I want you to think to yourself, 'there's no place like home.'" The entire episode was loosely based on "The Wizard of Oz". Just like Dorothy, Mulder was thrust into an alternate universe, where he encountered many familiar faces playing unfamiliar roles. Interestingly, the tagline for the episode (usually "The Truth Is Out There") was switched to a German phrase that translated to "The Truth Is Somewhere Out There", possibly a reference to the "Wizard of Oz" song, "Somewhere Over the Rainbow".
15. What did Scully say after Mulder professed his love for her?

Answer: "Oh, brother."

Mulder had called Scully back into the hospital room. She leaned over his bed expectantly, and Mulder said earnestly, "I love you." Scully muttered "Oh, brother" and turned to walk out of the room. Mulder looked like he might have been a bit hurt at first, but then felt the bruise on his face from when the 1939 Scully had punched him. Reminded of their kiss, Mulder seemed content and lay down to rest.
