Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. So we start right from the beginning... Who sets the explosives that blast the chrysm "egg" open that Ryu (in whelp form) is asleep inside?

Answer: Gary

Although Mogu is with him, Gary is the one who actually sets the explosives. Unfortunately for Gary and Mogu, Ryu isn't too happy about it and singes them black. That's the end of those two. Thus begins the journey of our little dragon friend.
2. Upon meeting an Operator and a Worker, Ryu is about to use his Whelp Breath to burn them to a crisp, but a voice distracts him just before he does. What does it say?

Answer: "NO! DON'T!"

The voice says "NO! DON'T!". It is probably the goddess Myria, who dislikes senseless violence. After this, the operator seizes the window of opportunity and whacks a crane into Ryu, knocking him out. He's then transported onto a train leading out of the area. However Ryu wakes up and breaks out of the train, falling into the Cedar Woods.
3. After falling from the train heading from the Dauna Mines, somebody saves Ryu from some Currs (wolf monsters). Who is that?

Answer: Rei

Rei saves him, first by throwing a dagger at a tree to distract them, then killing the Currs. He's not too happy about it, but he takes the now human (and naked!) Ryu back to his home in the Cedar Woods. Food is scarce, but Teepo, Rei's friend, seems to be happy enough to let him stay. They let him rest. Teepo comments that he was abandoned in the same way as Ryu.
4. Rei puts Ryu to sleep, and Teepo seems empathetic to Ryu's situation even though they haven't spoke yet. After Ryu wakes up, Teepo and Rei have gone to McNeil Village. Why have they gone there?

Answer: To get food

They need food, so they went there, but all the villagers are wised up and they can't get any. But Ryu shows up, and Teepo suggests he help them out. Somehow Teepo knows Ryu's name already (you'll find out later why), though it's never said where Rei learns it.

After they steal some gear for Ryu, they go down to the road and try to mug Bunyan, but it doesn't work. Bunyan warns them that they'll "be sorry", but Teepo and Rei don't take too much heed of it.
5. Teepo, Rei and Ryu decide to go mug someone at the Yraall Road, but they are unsuccessful. After the failed mugging, what do they decide to do?

Answer: Steal some food from Bunyan's house

Rei suggests they go to Bunyan's house to steal some food.
Ryu finds some Beef Jerky in a drawer, but the success is short lived. Bunyan ties up Rei, Teepo and Ryu after they exit: he's none too pleased they stole from him. He sends Rei up the mountain to deal with a monster terrorising the village's food supplies, and tasks Teepo and Ryu with chopping some wood. This takes but a couple of minutes to do. Teepo wants to follow Rei, so they do.
6. Up on Mt.Glaus, Teepo and Ryu find Rei in a shack. Rei seems to be disappointed that they came along. Why is that?

Answer: He can't morph into Weretiger with them there

Although he wants them to be safe, that isn't why he's disappointed. He can't morph into Weretiger with them there. The Weretiger is uncontrollable, but far more powerful than Rei, but he doesn't want to risk hurting Teepo or Ryu. However, they continue on to scare the Nue into the caves, and then kill it.

They are sad to find it was just getting food for its dead babies, but upon confronting Bunyan on the matter he exclaims "Would you have let her live, if you knew she had cubs?". However, Bunyan is pleased, as are the villagers, and Teepo brags to McNeil Village about the experience.

A man named Loki flatters them, then enlists their help in a new mission to steal money from McNeil...
7. After avoiding guards, killing a guard dog and a huge chicken, and spying wayward romances with the attractive Mina, Teepo and Ryu make it into the McNeil manor. What is the name of the fifth spirit of McNeil - the first they meet?

Answer: Torast McNeil

Torast is an easy mini-boss and doesn't really last too long. The other answers are also ghosts you meet later on: none are particularly difficult.
After you fight these four, you find Rei on the roof, and Rei is chided by Teepo for not helping kill the ghosts. It seems you walk in on McNeil having "some fun" with a lady. The ghosts you defeated join together to protect him as the boss Amalgam. After winning, McNeil is humiliated, and you place bags of money outside the town... Teepo thinks it'll make them even more popular... yet something bad happens instead...
8. Teepo, Ryu and Rei learn Loki was using them, and head home, as Bunyan warns them indirectly that McNeil works for a group of crooks. However their house is torched upon their arrival. Which two people did this?

Answer: Balio and Sunder

The two horselike men, Balio and Sunder, burnt their house to the ground. The group soon meet them in person, and try to fight them, but to no avail -- they are too powerful, and the group are knocked out.
When Ryu awakens, he is in Bunyan's house. Bunyan informs him that he only found Ryu alone, and wounded. Ryu then tells Bunyan he is going to look for Teepo and Rei in Wyndia. To do that, he must go over the perilous Mt. Myrneg.
9. Atop Mt.Myrneg Ryu meets Balio and Sunder again. Which creature does Sunder NOT call Ryu?

Answer: Monster

Sunder panics when he first sees Ryu - thinking he should be dead - shouting "G-G-GHOST!" and running to the nearby Balio. Then he says "It's a vampirrrrre" and finally calls him a "zombieeeee" while Balio tries to make sense of the situation.

But Sunder stabs Ryu through the chest with a sword... morphing him into an unconscious dragon. Balio thinks he can get rich with this, so takes him to the King of Wyndia... but him, Balio and Ryu get locked up when Ryu is back in human form.
10. Who attempts to save Ryu but gets distracted by Balio and Sunder, opening the cell for them and getting kidnapped instead?

Answer: Nina

Of course, it's Nina. This is how she gets involved in the story - she's awfully naive. She felt sorry for Ryu so went to free him, but then gets distracted and kidnapped. But Ryu breaks the cell down (how does the guard sleep through that?) and follows Balio and Sunder.

He fights them again - this time you can sort of win if you're clever, but it isn't necessary. Ryu and Nina then escape the catacombs beneath the prison and Nina decides to journey with Ryu. But they both get caught soon after leaving Wyndia, by Balio and Sunder, and get taken to Genmel, and are left with Fahl, a drunk bartender. Ryu bites open the ropes, and they escape up Mt. Boumore as the other road is off limits. They find someone who offers to give them a lift across to the other side of the mountain, but they are affiliated with Balio and Sunder, and Sunder almost catches Nina but she jumps onto the lift in time.

They then try to make their way down but nearly get caught again -- Ryu runs down a cliff with Nina and shields her with his dragon form. Nina isn't afraid of Ryu and their bond strengthens.

They then move on...
11. You'll meet a funky scientist up in the tower, who decides to take you to Wyndia. Who is she?

Answer: Momo

Of course, it's Momo - an easy question for anyone who's remotely played the game! Momo is deaf because of an accident she had causing an explosion. But she decides to help escort Nina and Ryu to Wyndia. She finds out some scruffy men are after them and decides to use an escape mechanism at the top of the tower (a rocket) but it shortly crashes as she didn't read the manual!

After this, they meet an old friend of hers, Palet, at the Coffee Shop, and offer to help him with some of her father's machines that have mucked up. She loved her father and claims "he's the greatest engineer in the world".
12. At the plant, they grow crops. What makes these crops different to any normal crops?

Answer: They are grown with the help of chrysm ore

They are grown with the help of chrysm ore. Repsol, Momo's father, was the pioneer of this. When the group first visits, they are having troubles with the machines. Momo offers to help out, and the group get tasked to go to the dump and dispose of a mutant plant -- as Palet and his crew already fixed the machines.

However they find the mutant is alive and it talks. It still wants to be "disposed of" even though Momo protests. Peco, a little onion like mutant, is left as a reminder of him, and is the newest party member (but the one with the least bearing on the group). After returning to Palet, he sends the group to Wyndia in a cart... but he was just planning to get rid of you! It seems everyone betrays this poor group! Sunder catches the group, and it's back to Genmel.
13. Nina wants to enter the Contest of Champions, and initially Balio and Sunder disagree, but Balio changes his mind. Why is that?

Answer: He thinks nobody will bet on them, and he knows how strong they are, so they will get rich from it

Balio thinks nobody will bet on them - two being children, and one being a mutant or an older scientist (depending on who you choose as the hostage).

This time, they can't escape. The first fight in the Hall of Fire, against Patrio's team. A little note - if you want a lot of EXP, kill the Dodai. It'll take a while but it's worth it, if you can (it's often easier during Cawer's match as he sometimes heals it for you).
14. Emitai visits you before you have to fight him in the Null Magic Hall. He wants you to lose on purpose, as he needs an operation for his daughter. What is the name of his daughter?

Answer: Lyla

Her name's Lyla. However after the match the group find out he was lying -- this seems a recurring theme in this game! He is actually just a scoundrel and his daughter and mother were just acting. It seems like his two "boys" are just monsters, too. You can apprentice under him later in the game for a cost -- it does seem like he uses some useful magic.

It's a good thing Nina didn't decide to throw the match. After this, Ryu has to fight Garr, the previous champion, in a 1v1 match. He loses, but Garr is interested in his heritage as a dragon and so chooses to take Ryu and co. as his prize - Balio and Sunder are less than happy. Garr says if Ryu wants to learn more about his race, he should go to Angel Tower in the east.
15. Balio and Sunder have had enough of Ryu and co. They decide to combine their powers to one form in order to destroy them - what is it called?

Answer: Stallion

It's called the Stallion. And it finally gets rid of Balio and Sunder, which means there's no more running here and there to get away from them.

After this, you go to the Wyndian castle, to get a passport. The King forgives Ryu and after the meal Ryu and co leave immediately. Nina is kept behind. However she finds Honey and chases her around the castle, ultimately to a balcony-ish walkway and holds onto her, and floats off the castle thanks to Honey's chrysm power. Honey needs fixing as she breaks down, and Nina runs into the camp to give Honey to Momo.

Whilst Nina and Momo are in the tent, Garr tells Ryu there is a possibility he may die, but Nina overhears, and decides to come too.
Garr lets Nina stay as he thinks Ryu is stronger with her around. They then cross the bridge to get to Rhapala. The boat's down, so they have to find a way around it...
16. Nina decides to help train Beyd whilst the boat is down. Initially Beyd doesn't want to, but he changes his mind. Why does he change his mind?

Answer: If he gives up, Zig will almost definitely marry Shadis and become Guildmaster

He secretly loves Shadis, so changes his mind when Zig decides to up the ante and wants to go to fix the lighthouse. Beyd wants to be trained so he can go fix it before Zig and have a chance at proposal to Shadis.

To decide who goes to the lighthouse, Beyd and Zig have to fight. If he's strong enough, Beyd will win, but he gets injured so Ryu and co are tasked with fixing the lighthouse.

Once you go to the lighthouse the group do manage to turn on the light, but a fairy gets mad and tries to turn it off (unsuccessfully), and breaks the switch. She orders you to go to her home to make up for it, and gives you a Faerie Tiara.
17. After visiting the fairies they tell you about a monster that is terrorising them. You wait at the beach until nightfall. After it comes, a dolphin appears and seems friendly, so Momo and Nina go and ask the fairies about him. However he's mean to Ryu and speaks in a different dialect. What dialect is that?

Answer: Australian

He's an odd little dolphin, and speaks Australian, though you can hear the scene again in English if you want. After the girls come back with the fairies, they reveal the dolphin is the monster. The dolphin goes back to being nice... for a bit, and then the fairies say how he threatened to eat them, and call him a dummy, making him transform into a more frightening form. The group then have to defeat him.

The fairies are grateful for the help. But they may need help again...

After returning to Rhapala, the ship's not back. Beyd says you should ask Guildmaster Sinkar if you can use the road. He says you can use a secret shortcut as the road is blocked by lava. Off to Mt. Zublo...
18. In Mt. Zublo, you'll meet a crazy old man called Gisshan. He has two fire dragon friends. One is called Scylla, what is the other called in battle?

Answer: Charyb

It's called Charybdis outside battle, however in the fight it's called Charyb (due to character spacing limits, probably). Gisshan calls his name out before the fight begins.

Gisshan appears to want to avenge the dragons, but he's gone off his rocker a bit, so doesn't really care of your intentions. He's not a focal character in the story, but he does make a (albeit very minor) impression on the camp after you exit Mt. Zublo.

Ryu and co then go to the hugely pointless town of Urkan Tapa, and Garr talks with the boring Patriarch about having fulfilled his duties and the world being cleansed of evil -- yawn. He then grants permission to go into Angel Tower, which for some reason is a holy site to the Urkan (an irritating contrival that makes you bring Garr there)
19. At the basement of Angel Tower, Ryu and Garr are alone. You can read some plaques here. Which Guardian killed the most dragons?

Answer: Garr

Garr did, and quite a few more than the others, too! Ryu would have been the 300th.

He attempts to kill you in the Angel Tower, but fails... looks like he can't even slay a little kid. Ok, so the story had to go on.

Garr realises the true power of the Brood would have killed him and they would have lost the war. He asks Ryu why he doesn't finish him off, and Ryu shakes his head. A voice calls to him "NO" and "He is not your enemy". Ryu then becomes uncontrolled and morphs into the Kaiser dragon. Angel Tower then rumbles and some rocks knock Garr out... and the screen blacks.
20. What happens to Ryu in his final scenes as a child?

Answer: He meets a mysterious stranger in a dream

He meets a mysterious stranger in a dream... hmm, you've seen him before, haven't you?

The person asks why Ryu is running, and that he doesn't belong with these people. However Ryu soon wakes up... as an adult... it seems many years have passed.
