Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The sun swooped out of the sky to attack Mario in the desert stage (World 2) of which of these NES classics?

Answer: Super Mario Bros. 3

About midway through World 2, Mario will come across an unnumbered level marked on the world map by a glowing, yellow/orange square. This will indicate the unique 'sun' level in which Mario must cross the stage as an angry sun swoops down from overhead in regular intervals.

The further through the level Mario gets, the angrier the sun will get. The level is not unlike others in the game-- you progress left to right and you hit the symbol at the end-- but it does have the one hindrance.
2. "Pokemon Sun" was the companion game to which other series title?

Answer: Pokemon Moon

"Pokemon Sun" and "Pokemon Moon" were both part of the seventh generation of "Pokemon" games and they were released on the 3DS handheld. Taking players to the tropical Alola Region, the game introduced some new concepts not previously seen in other games in the series, notably a lack of gym leaders and the introduction of 'Alolan Forms', new variations of existing, classic "Pokemon".

After release in 2016, they were followed by the revised "Pokémon Ultra Sun" and "Ultra Moon". All of these games included the Sun Pokemon, Solgaleo, who was a psychic/steel-type
3. "The Lost Age" and "Dark Dawn" were subtitles of what Nintendo RPG series developed by Camelot Software Planning and starring Isaac?

Answer: Golden Sun

The "Golden Sun" series was somewhat of a cult classic for Nintendo gamers since its early games, released on the Game Boy Advance, never saw a new sequel for eight years until "Dark Dawn" showed up on the DS. The series followed magically-inclined heroes as they fought to prevent the destructive, dark forces of alchemy from taking grip on the world of Weyard.

The series saw critical renown for utilizing a classic RPG format and a rich story, and one can only imagine how the games were to unfold on consoles, as was originally planned during development. Creator Hiroyuki Takahashi is also known for helming the "Mario Tennis" and "Mario Golf" series as well as the early Sega RPG series "Shining Force".
4. What 2013 PC game allows you to pilot a solar-powered spaceship?

Answer: Race the Sun

First appearing on PC in 2013, but later showing up as online console releases in later years, "Race the Sun" puts you into the cockpit of a super-fast, solar-powered plane and simply sends you hurtling along the surface of a planet. The goal is to keep flying, always in the light of the sun on the horizon, but if you don't manage to maneuver your way through levels while avoiding shade and collect the drops found along the landscape, you could find yourself unable to reach the sun in the distance. Without sun, you would simply lose power and drop from the sky. "Race the Sun" was a notable instance in which Kickstarter helped fund the game's development.
5. In which game do you play the role of Amaterasu, the Goddess of the Sun?

Answer: Okami

Created by Clover Studio, a developer later dissolved into Capcom, "Okami" was one of the highest-rated games to release on the Playstation 2 (and one of the last!) before being ported to the Nintendo Wii and being remastered for an HD version. In the game, you play as the wolf Amaterasu and journey through a platformer world inspired by classical Japanese ink illustrations.

In addition to hack-and-slash elements akin to a "Zelda" game, the title also included puzzle elements, some of which involved using the brushstrokes of a watercolour paintbrush (a technique which brought out the best of the Wii Remote's capabilities). Amaterasu also fills the role of Sun Goddess in Shinto mythology.
6. Mario used the FLUDD to rid his vacation of graffiti and grime in what best-selling Gamecube 3D platformer?

Answer: Super Mario Sunshine

In Mario's first full-fledged platformer adventure since "Super Mario 64", "Super Mario Sunshine" finally sent the hero off on a vacation to Delfino Isle (you know, because always having parties, playing tennis and golf, and eating Peach's cakes takes a lot out of you). Upon arriving, however, it appeared that someone looking nearly identical to him had already started vandalizing the place (and its outlying regions), so Mario was sentenced to spend his trip cleaning up after...himself.

The game's sunshine motif persisted through several levels and appeared in designs throughout.
7. "Praise the sun!" What tough RPG features the character Solaire, who can assist in boss fights?

Answer: Dark Souls

Solaire of Astora, the Warrior of Sunlight, is a bit of a generous offering in "Dark Souls", a game known for its merciless combat and punishing approach to adventure RPGs, because unlike most things in the game, he doesn't try to kill you in a single hit (or close to it).

Instead, if you progress through the Undead Burg and find him, he'll join you at different points in the game, offering up support in times where it may be back-breakingly crucial to have the extra muscle. Solaire's backstory is rarely visited, and when he survives tough encounters he'll reward you with a Sunlight Medal which can be used to help you ascend the ranks of the Warrior of Sunlight Covenant.
8. Queueing up Exort-Exort-Exort on Invoker will unleash a Sun Strike in what PC MOBA game?

Answer: Dota 2

While a popular Hero to play, Invoker can be a bit tough to master because while other Heroes will have a typical moveset of 3-to-4 different techniques, players can shift through ten different techniques on their Invoker, each keyed to a specific combination denoted by the elements of Quas, Wex, and Exort (denoting ice, storm, and fire elements respectively). Queueing Exort-Exort-Exort (or three fire elements) will form Sun Strike, a global attack that, when pinpointed on a location, can shoot down a concentrated beam of sunlight that damages and suns a foe after a short delay.

The skill requires precision and timing in the heat of battle, but a player who brings it all together can be unstoppable under the right circumstances.
9. Right-C, Down-C, Up-C Right-C, Down-C, Up-C The Sun's Song is played on a woodwind instrument in what popular video game?

Answer: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

The Sun's Song is one of the earlier songs you can get in the game, appearing if you descend into the Royal Family's Tomb in Kakariko Graveyard, and it's extremely useful for both affecting the passage of time and for facing off against undead creatures.

When played, the song can transition Link from day to night or night to day. Additionally, if played in the vicinity of Redeads or Gibdos, it will cause the creatures to freeze in place, at least temporarily, and allow Link to pass without them shambling over to attack. Similar songs appear in "Majora's Mask" and "Wind Waker".
10. The Worgen are a race historically affected by sunlight in what "World of Warcraft" expansion?

Answer: Cataclysm

"Cataclysm" revisited the world of Azeroth as the third expansion of "World of Warcraft", reshaping many of the regions found in the main map of the game (excluding the Outlands of "Burning Crusade" and Northrend in "Wrath of the Lich King"), releasing both the Goblins as a new Horde race and the Worgen, a group of wolf-people from the Gilneas region, as the new Alliance race.

The Worgen were sealed behind Greymane Wall on the Eastern Provinces' coastline and the Cataclysm destroyed it, allowing the Worgen, now partially cured, to emerge and battle. Players can switch between human and lupine form depending on their approach, but historically they functioned the same as werewolves-- human in daylight and wolf at night.
