Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Super Mario Bros. 3" introduce us to Bowser's first seven children, known as the Koopalings. According to the game manual and the strategy guide published by Nintendo, who is the second eldest Koopaling?

Answer: Lemmy

Here is the birth order of the Koopalings: Ludwig Von Koopa, Lemmy Koopa, Roy E. Koopa, Iggy Koopa, Wendy Koopa, Morton Koopa Jr., Larry Koopa, and Bowser Jr. Lemmy Koopa primarily attacks with circus balls and has an affinity for icy environments, ruling the Ice World in both "Super Mario Bros 3" and "New Super Mario Bros. Wii". Gamers have also found unused sprites for Lemmy in the DS title "Super Princess Peach", although he is not present in the final game. Bowser Jr. is not present in "Super Mario Bros. 3".

He first appears in the Gamecube title "Super Mario Sunshine".
2. What is the last World to feature an Angry Sun?

Answer: World 8: Dark Land

The Angry Sun appears in three different levels: 2-3, 2-4, and 8-4. The Angry Sun can be defeated by the Hammer Bros or a Koopa Shell.
3. Not all enemies in "Super Mario Bros. 3" can be hurt. Which of the following is invincible to any attack from Mario or Luigi?

Answer: Jelectro

Blooper Nannies can be killed with fireballs. Firesnakes can be eradicated by invincibility stars. Hot Foots can be killed by throwing hammers at it. Jelectros, electric jellyfish, cannot be damaged in any way, shape, or form. They appear in World 3, and also a large number is found in the automatically scrolling level 7-4. Muckle and Leuko, two enemies from "Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars" heavily resemble Jelectros.
4. Bullet Bills have been giving Mario trouble since the original "Super Mario Bros." "Super Mario Bros. 3" introduce us to a new variation of these classic enemies who have a red tint and are heat seeking. What is their name?

Answer: Missile Bills

Missile Bills also appear in "Super Mario Sunshine", although they have a purple tint in that game. They appear in World 9-3 in "New Super Mario Bros. Wii". In "Super Mario 64" and "Super Mario Galaxy", they do not officially appear; however, the Bullet Bills from those two titles home in on Mario the same way Missile Bills do.
5. What is the name of the Koopa you must face at the end of every fortress?

Answer: Boom Boom

Boom Boom flails his arms and attacks Mario by running back and forth across the screen. He can also fly. You defeat him by jumping on him three times, or hitting him with Fire Flowers or Hammers. His only game appearance is in "Super Mario Bros. 3".
6. Bomb Ombs first appeared in "Super Mario Bros. 3".

Answer: False

Bomb Ombs first appeared in "Super Mario Bros. 2.". They have appeared in a majority of the Mario games since that title. They have even appeared in some Zelda titles as well. Bomb Ombs feature heavily in the World 8 (The Dark Land) and the airships.
7. "Super Mario Bros 3" greatly broadens the variety of Hammer Bros. How many different species of Hammer Bros. does Mario encounter?

Answer: Four

There are four species of Hammer Bros. in "Super Mario Bros. 3": Hammers Bros, Boomerang Bros, Fire Bros, and Sledge Bros. Fire Bros. are the rarest: they only appear three times, twice in the secret area of World 2 and once in one of the hand traps in World 8.
8. How many forms of attack does Bowser have if, after entering Bowser's chamber, you fly to the left via a P-Wing to another Bowser chamber, then fly back to the original Bowser chamber?

Answer: One

Provided you enter the correct Bowser fight chamber (you will know because the brick floor is entirely flush), you can fly to the left and find a second Bowser chamber. Do not land on the floor. Rather, once Bowser enters the second chamber, fly back to the original chamber.

Then Bowser will not be able to shoot fireballs, and he will only be able to use his jump attack on you. He will make the sounds of blowing fire, but nothing will come out. You have to have the P-Wing to do this trick.
9. Fifteen unused levels have been discovered programmed into the "Super Mario Bros 3" game code. Two enemies are present in these levels that are not found in the regular game. The primary difference with these enemies are their sprite coloring. The first is a Golden Cheep-Cheep. What is the second enemy?

Answer: Green Para-Beetle

Fifteen unused levels have been discovered programmed into the "Super Mario Bros 3" game code. Some of these levels heavily resemble levels present in the final game.
10. "Super Mario Bros. 3" famously introduced Mario to the sky by grabbing a leaf. He transforms and has a Raccoon tail and ears that enables him to fly. In the immediate sequel, "Super Mario World", what is the actual item that Mario grabs to enable him to fly.

Answer: Feather

In "Super Mario World", Nintendo removed the restrictions on Mario's flying. Once Mario grabs the Feather, he dons a cape (a possible Superman reference?), and can fly for an unlimited amount of time. In "Super Mario Bros. 3", unless you have a P-Wing, you have a set time limit you can fly.
