Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the only enemy from the original "Super Mario Bros." to NOT appear in "Super Mario Bros. 3"?

Answer: Firebar

"Super Mario Bros." had the following enemies: Blooper, Bullet Bill, Buzzy Beetle, Cheep-Cheep, Firebar, Goomba, Hammer Bros., Koopa Paratroopa, Koopa Troopa, Lakitu, Piranha Plant, Podoboo, Spiny, and Spiny Egg. In addition, "Super Mario Bros." also featured two bosses, Bower and "Fake Bowser".

The entire enemy roster from the original game was used for "Super Mario Bros. 3" with the sole exception of the Firebar.
2. In the "Super Mario All-Stars" remake for the SNES, Nintendo changes the animals that the kings had been transformed into. How many of the kings' animal forms are from "Super Mario Bros. 2".

Answer: Three

There are three cameos from "Super Mario Bros. 2" in the Allstars version. For some reason when Nintendo released "Super Mario Bros. 3" as part of "Super Mario All Stars" they changed what the kings were transformed too. Here is a complete list of what the kings were and what they were changed too:

World 1: The dog is changed to a Cobrat (snake from "Super Mario Bros. 2").
World 2: The spider is changed to a Hoopstar ("Super Mario Bros. 2).
World 3: Spike is changed to a Dino-Rhino ("Super Mario World".
World 4: A Dinosaur is changed to Donkey Kong Jr.
World 5: A Bird is changed to an Albatross ("Super Mario Bros. 2").
World 6: A seal is changed to Monty Mole ("Super Mario World)".
World 7: Venis Fire Trap is changed to Yoshi.

According to Miyamoto, the idea of Yoshi (though not necessarily his present day design) dates back to the original "Super Mario Bros." but was not included for technological reasons. In "Super Mario Bros. 3" Miyamoto wanted to include Yoshi but did not, waiting for "Super Mario World". Yoshi finally gets his appearance in the remake.

Another idea that did not come to fruition was having Mario changed into a centaur.
3. How many times did Nintendo issue distinct releases of "Super Mario Bros. 3" for the NES?

Answer: Two

Thare are two different versions of the NES version of "Super Mario Bros. 3". In the re-release, the world names were changed, there is a slightly revised text drom Toad's N-Spade game, and also a rewrite of one of the Princess's letters, where she says "Goomba's Shoe" instead of the original "Kuribo's Shoe".
4. World-e is an exclusive to the Game Boy Advance version of "Super Mario Bros. 3". Using the e-Reader cards, the player can access ten new levels in World-e, of which only one was included in the game by default. The rest you had to get via the e-cards. What level was included by default that did not require purchase of a card?

Answer: Wild Ride in the Sky

There were ten e-reader cards total: "Wild Ride in the Sky", "Slidin' the Slopes", "Vegetable Volley", "Doors o' Plenty", "Bombarded by Bob-ombs", "Magical Note Blocks", "The ol' Switcheroo", "Piped Full of Plants", "Swinging Bars of Doom", and "Para Beetle Challenge". There were also two other levels released, one called "Classic World 1-1", and the other "Airship's Revenge", but these two levels were not part of the main series of e-levels.
5. What Koopa Kid shakes the ground so hard when he lands that Mario is momentarily stunned?

Answer: Ludwig von Koopa

Both Roy Koopa and Ludwig Koopa could bound the ground and stun the Mario Bros., just like the Sledge Bros. Ludwig Von Koopa, based off Beethoven, is the oldest of the Koopa Kids. After years of absence, the Koopa Kids appears in "Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga", marking the first time we heard of the Koopa Kids (besides the new introduction of "Bowser Jr." from "Super Mario Sunshine") since "Super Mario World" in the main series. "Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga" was released in 2003.
6. "Super Mario Bros. 3" introduces us to Bowser's first seven children, known as the Koopalings. According to the game manual and the strategy guide published by Nintendo, who is the second eldest Koopaling?

Answer: Lemmy

Here is the birth order of the Koopalings: Ludwig Von Koopa, Lemmy Koopa, Roy E. Koopa, Iggy Koopa, Wendy Koopa, Morton Koopa Jr., Larry Koopa, and Bowser Jr. Lemmy Koopa primarily attacks with circus balls and has an affinity for icy environments, ruling the Ice World in both "Super Mario Bros 3" and "New Super Mario Bros. Wii". Gamers have also found unused sprites for Lemmy in the DS title "Super Princess Peach", although he is not present in the final game. Bowser Jr. is not present in "Super Mario Bros. 3".

He first appears in the Gamecube title "Super Mario Sunshine".
7. How many boss chambers are there for Bowser in "Super Mario Bros. 3"?

Answer: Four

There are four boss chambers that feature Bowser in the last level of "Super Mario Bros. 3". There are two main chambers that you enter through doors. Once you enter either one of these chambers, if you have the P-Wing you can fly to the left to another chamber that makes some changes to how large Bowser's bridge is.
8. The first fort of what world is impossible to beat using Frog Mario?

Answer: World 6

World 6 features several levels that you cannot beat with Frog Mario. The first fort is impossible due to Frog Mario being unable to pass the 1-tile high gap that leads to Boom Boom.
9. What is the rarest Hammer Bros. species in "Super Mario Bros. 3"?

Answer: Fire Bros.

The Fire Bros. are the rarest species of Hammer Bros. in "Super Mario Bros. 3". Three total appear in the entire game: two of the are guarding the warp whistle in the second desert world, and one appears in one of the hand traps in World 8. They have gone on to appear in other titles, including "New Super Mario Bros. Wii", most memorably in the notorious 9-7.
10. In the Game Boy Advance version of "Super Mario Bros. 3", vegetables from "Super Mario Bros. 2" will appear throughout the main game if you hit what color switch? (Note: This switch was only available through the use of the e-card reader.)

Answer: Blue Green Switch

If you hit the "Blue Green" switch, vegetables are present in the original game which can be uprooted and thrown at enemies, just like in "Super Mario Bros. 2". There is also an "Orange Switch" which will cause enemies killed by fire balls to turn into coins.
