Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the first publicly released video game console ever made?

Answer: Magnavox Odyssey

The Magnavox Odyssey was released in 1972. This system actually came with removable TV screens that you could put on Magnavox TVs to enhance the graphics.
2. What was the system that was was released in 1993 and was said to have "impressive 64-bit graphics", but was only a 32-bit system?

Answer: Atari Jaguar

3. What was the first system to truly have 64-bit graphics and came with classic games like "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" and "Super Mario 64"?

Answer: Nintendo 64

The Nintendo 64 was released in 1996. The system was a great selling gaming system despite only releasing 296 games, but was beaten by Sony's PlayStation.
4. What was the game system to have 8-bit graphics and had classics like "Metroid" and "Dr. Mario"?

Answer: Nintendo Entertainment System

The Nintendo Entertainment System was released in 1985. This game system had a long lifespan, lasting ten years in the market (1985-1995).
5. What console had 16-bit graphics and had classic games like "Sonic the Hedgehog" and "Toejam and Earl"?

Answer: Sega Genesis

The Sega Genesis was released in 1989. This system once had a competition with Nintendo's SNES (abbreviation for Super Nintendo Entertainment System) called "The Console Wars" and Sega was victorious over the other system.
6. What was one of the first game systems that actually enabled an internet connection and was known to have really good graphics at that time? Some of the classics for that system are "Sonic Adventure" and "House of the Dead 2".

Answer: Sega Dreamcast

The Sega Dreamcast was released in 1999. This system sold very well at first, but later it was beaten by the PlayStation 2, and is known to be a video game system flop like the Atari Jaguar.
7. What was the first "portable" game system to have 3D graphics like the Nintendo 3DS, but all you could see was black and red?

Answer: Virtual Boy

The Virtual Boy was released in 1995. This was also a game system flop because many people had problems with it. A few reasons were sometimes the 3D could give the player a headache, and because of its high price. The system only sold 770,000 units. It may seem like a lot, but usually for game systems to sell "well", they had to sell around 20 million units and the Virtual Boy only had a small selection of games (only 20 games were ever released).
8. What was the portable game system that had re-released Genesis games but only had a battery life of two hours?

Answer: Sega Game Gear

The Sega Game Gear was released in 1991. The Game Gear was not received in ratings too well because of its low battery life and dark screen.
9. What system could play video games, music, and even use for education, but did not sell well because of the games and high price?

Answer: Philips CD-i

The Philips CD-i was released in 1991. The system was known for bad games like "Hotel Mario" and the "Legend of Zelda" games created for that system. The CD-i only sold around 500,000 units.
10. What system was mistakenly referred to as the first game system and was a home to some of the most popular arcade games like "Space Invaders" and "Asteroids"?

Answer: Atari 2600

The Atari 2600 was the first Atari (not the first system and it was called the Atari 2600, not just Atari) and it was released in 1977. This system had many successors like the Atari 5200, 7800, and the Jaguar.
