Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the "Banjo-Kazooie" series, Kazooie can fly with feathers of which colour?

Answer: Red

First introduced in the second stage of "Banjo-Kazooie", Treasure Trove Cove, Flying is important for the bird and bear duo to locate and collect Jiggies and advance in the game. In fact, without obtaining the Red Feathers, the two of them would not be able to continue through Grunty's Lair unlocking new worlds. Red Feathers make a reappearance in "Banjo-Tooie", and Kazooie is also able to fly solo, without Banjo attached, thanks to new devices and skills. Flying is usually an important skill in fighting bosses and mini-bosses throughout the games.
2. In "Assassin's Creed 2", Ezio is able to fly using devices made by which renaissance man?

Answer: Leonardo Da Vinci

Taking the player from the Holy Lands of the first "Assassin's Creed" game, "Assassin's Creed 2" visits Renaissance Italy as the player takes over the role of assassin, Ezio. Similar to the first game, the goal is to unlock memories of one man's ancestors as he lives through the life of the player character. By Ezio's side is Leonardo Da Vinci whose artisan and engineering skills will help along the way. One of the major features of the game was the use of a primitive flying machine designed by some of Da Vinci's old drawings.

In select missions, Ezio can glide over Venice attacking enemies and traveling about.
3. Beginning in "Super Mario 64", Mario could fly with the help of a winged cap, but what device from "Super Mario World" (SNES) enabled him to glide through the air?

Answer: Cape

First seen in the Donut Plains in "Super Mario World", the Cape is a new item specially made for this game which allows Mario to glide through the air if he runs fast enough and jumps into the sky. Mario was also able to fly using the Leaf from "Super Mario Bros. 3" (NES). If Mario spins (using either the Leaf or the Cape) he can also harm specific enemies.

By the time "Super Mario 64" came out, Mario would be able to fly using a red, winged cap while "New Super Mario Bros." (for the Wii) introduced the helicopter suit.
4. Whether in space or flying low along a planet's surface, this game in the "Star Wars" series has allowed for flight since first appearing on the N64. Which series is it?

Answer: Rogue Squadron

The "Rogue Squadron" series made its start as a title for the Nintendo 64 and its popularity are with the release of "The Phantom Menace" and other more recent "Star Wars" films. In addition to a well received original set before "The Empire Strikes Back", two new games ("Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader" and "Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike") were released on the Gamecube with the latest of these adding in more land battles.

Although other games in the series such as "Star Wars Battlefront" for the Xbox tried to add flight into the gameplay, none were as successful as the "Rogue Squadron" series which took players through several different missions in unique environments in many of the films' trademark vehicles.
5. In "Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow" (GBC), which of these Pokemon could not be taught using HM02 (Fly)?

Answer: Magneton

HM02 was one of five unique 'Hidden Machines' found throughout the Kanto region in the first three games of the "Pokemon" series (though Fly appeared in almost all of the later games). Teaching this to a flying-type Pokemon allowed the trainer to do two different things. Firstly, in battle, the Pokemon would be able to use Fly to lift into the sky for one turn, dropping down onto the enemies on the subsequent attack.

This allowed for more evasive strategies. Secondly, outside of battle, players could use Fly-taught Pokemon to travel swiftly between towns and cities on the map once they'd been explored. Using Fly would drop you directly outside the local Pokemon Center of any major city, in the Indigo Plateau itself, or in front of your house in Pallet Town. Magneton, an electric-type Pokemon with the ability to levitate, could not learn this HM though the other three choices could as they were all bird-like flying-type Pokemon.
6. In the NCSoft online RPG "Aion", creatures known as Daeva can fly beginning at what level?

Answer: Level 10

"Aion: The Tower of Eternity", released in 2009, was a big hit in Korea but faced off against MMORPG juggernauts in North America only to pull up short. In the game, players would choose one of two sides (Elyos and Asmodian), but regardless they would always be a Daeva, a species with the ability to sprout wings and fly after completing an Ascension quest at level 9.

By the time the player reached level 10, they would be able to use wings to glide across the landscape or fly in designated areas.

This ability, in specific areas (like major cities) is timed, however, and players must have enough Aether to fly and gather. Later in the game, players could find more flying zones and better wings.
7. In "Tales of Symphonia", one character, fulfilling their destiny as 'The Chosen', could sprout shimmering wings at will to fly or hover above the ground. Who could do this?

Answer: Colette

Setting out at the beginning of the game, Colette was known to be the Chosen of Mana who would be sacrificed to save the world of Sylvarant from decimation in "Tales of Symphonia" (GCN). Lloyd, Genis, and others would later head out on a pilgrimage to protect Colette and prevent her inevitable sacrifice.

As different seals around the world (hidden in temples) were unlocked, Colette slowly lost her human abilities and gained those of an angelic creature. This included sparkling, pink wings which she could use to hover in and out of battle and to reach far away spots in cutscenes. Colette reappeared in "Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World" for the Wii.
8. In "Donkey Kong 64", which member of the Kong family can use rocket barrels to fly?

Answer: Diddy

Although the game begins with Donkey Kong, "Donkey Kong 64" brings DK to the Jungle Japes stage quite early to find Diddy. Soon enough, Diddy will be able to learn his second move of the game, the Rocketbarrel Boost in which Diddy can enter any barrel marked with his face and float into the air using a barrel jetpack powered by crystal coconuts. In this state, Diddy can also fire his peanut Popguns earned early on by purchasing them from Funky Kong.
The Rocketbarrel Boost reappears in "Super Smash Bros. Brawl" where Diddy can boost into the air with Up-B.
9. In this 2009 'zen game' from the Playstation Network on PS3, you play the role of the wind, letting flower petals fly across the beautiful landscape. What is the game's name?

Answer: Flower

Take flight in this game by selecting a flower pot on a sunny window ledge and head to a unique field to blow flower petals across the land, be it a field or a meadow. This game was not intended to be challenging, the American creators at thatgamecompany wanted to create art.

The only objective is to spread the flowers across the land by letting them float at your whim. Beautiful orchestral scores mark each movement and blossom as you literally fly across open pastures in this visual-oriented game more notable for its zen than its difficulty. Surprisingly, this game (on the PS3's PSN download system) was very well-received.
10. Sure, the plan isn't to stay in the air, but you certainly feel like you're flying. Parachuting is the first task of which 2009 game that used Wii Motion Plus?

Answer: Wii Sports Resort

"Wii Sports Resort" was the first game on the Wii to be released with the Wii Motion Plus add-on for the Wii Remote. A sequel to the massively-popular "Wii Sports", Nintendo had to step their game up to maintain good reception. The game was, in fact, quite well-made and well-received.

The player started the game by descending onto WuHu Island, the main setting of the game, by parachuting down through the sky. Landing on the island enables you to receive a score and select from the other options that the island has to offer. Of the twelve mini-games available in "Wii Sports Resort", only one, Air Sports, involves flying through the air in some way.
