Theodore Roosevelt went to Brazil to do a cruise on the Amazon River and received an invitation to follow the famous Brazilian explorer Candido Rondon to explore the still unknown "The River Doubt" in the Amazon basin. "The Roosevelt-Rondon Scientific Expedition" was organized with the presence of several American scientists.

The expedition took place between December 1913 and April 1914 and was financed by the American Museum of Natural History.
2. Who was the first American president who married while serving and held the ceremony in the White House?

Answer: Grover Cleveland

Three American presidents were married while serving but only Grover Cleveland's wedding ceremony took place at the White House. John Tyler and Woodrow Wilson also married during their terms but the ceremony was held in another place.

Answer: They lost the election in popular vote but won in the Electoral College.

These four former presidents along with Donald Trump lost the elections in the popular vote but were elected by the Electoral College.
5. Which of the following public offices did William Taft occupy after his presidency?

Answer: Chief Justice of United States.

Some American presidents returned to public life after the end of their terms. William H. Taft, who was president of the United States from 1909 to 1913, was appointed by the President Warren G. Harding as the 10th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Taft held this position from 1921 to 1930.

John Calvin Coolidge Jr. was born in Plymouth, Vermont, on July 4th in 1872. He was vice-president from 1921 through August 2nd, 1923, when he assumed the presidency due the sudden death of President Warren Harding. Calvin Coolidge was visiting his family home in Vermont when he received the news about Harding's death.

His father, a notary public and justice of the peace, administered the oath of office. In the next day Coolidge returned to Washington and was sworn in again by Justice Adolph A. Hoehling Jr. of the Supreme Court of the District of Columbia.

In 1924, Calvin Coolidge won the election to President finishing his term in 1929.

Answer: Martin Van Buren

The American Presidents George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison,Jr., James Monroe, John Quincy Adams, Andrew Jackson and William Henry Harrison were born before July 4th, 1776; they really were born in the British Colonies. Martin Van Buren was the first president born an American citzen.
8. Among the first forty-five American presidents, who were the only ones born in the west of the Rocky Mountains?

Answer: Richard Nixon and Barack Obama.

Most of the forty-five American presidents were born in the east coast states. Only eight presidents were born in the west of the Mississippi River and only two were born west of the Rocky Mountains: Richard Nixon and Barack Obama. Richard M. Nixon (1913-1994) was born in California and Barack Obama (1961) was born in Hawaii.
9. Which American president lost his wife and mother on the same day in 1884?

Answer: Theodore Roosevelt.

Theodore Roosevelt, Jr. (1858-1919) served as the 25th President from March to September 1901 and as the 26th President from 1901 to 1909. In 1880, when he was 22, he married the socialite Alice Hathaway Lee. Alice passed away on February 14, 1884 from kidney disease two days after giving birth to their first daughter.

Theodore Roosevelt's mother had died of typhoid a few hours earlier. In 1884 Roosevelt married Edith Carow.
10. Who was the first important American politician to expose an opponent's sexual indiscretions to win elections?

Answer: Thomas Jefferson.

Thomas Jefferson lost the presidential election to John Adams in 1796 and decided to attack the president-elect and his ally Alexander Hamilton. He informed the journalist James Callender about an affair Hamilton had with a prostitute and hired the Callender to write diatribes against the president.

In 1798, the "Sedition Act" was passed and one of the journalists arrested was Callender. In 1800, Thomas Jeferson, then president, gave Callender the presidential pardon and some money but refused to give him a political endorsement.

In 1802, the journalist published an article making public the relationship Jefferson had with his slave Sally Hemings and with whom he had several children.
