The other three characters all served during WWI with great courage, Frazer on the high seas and the other two on the battlefields of France.

The episode was about the lengths that the platoon went to to improve their shooting scores. They used a fairground sharpshooter played by Barbara Windsor to shoot for them. Not surprisingly, the uniform did not fit very well.

The old man is lured away by Private Frazer and a bottle of Scotch, which gives the others the chance to get into the museum. When they do get in, they find that the useful weaponry has already been requisitioned by ENSA.

Arthur Lowe had no time for ribald comedy and when a script called for Private Frazer to fish around inside his trousers for a bomb, he flatly refused to do the scene. The scene was switched and the bomb ended up down Corporal Jones' trousers instead. Thereafter, Arthur Lowe insisted on the clause in his contract.
