Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who is Jimmy Fallon named after?

Answer: His father

Both Jimmy and his father are James Thomas Fallon. I guess that makes Jimmy a Junior. His sister was named after their mother, Gloria. Not too original eh? While his childhood was generally happy, his parents have been described as "overprotective". For instance, his parents taped "Saturday Night Live". While Jimmy loved the show, his parents only let him watch the "clean parts".
2. While growing up, why was Jimmy Fallon particularly fascinated with Dana Carvey of "SNL"?

Answer: Mimicry and impersonations

Fallon can imitate every character Dana Carvey has done on "SNL". Jimmy would later have Carvey as a guest once he began hosting "The Tonight Show". They have collaborated on some skits like "Wheel of Impressions". In return, Jimmy has appeared on Carvey's podcast "Fly on the Wall" more than once.

The two, along with "Fly on the Wall" co-host David Spade, have given an insiders look at "SNL" behind the scenes.
3. When was Jimmy born?

Answer: September 19, 1974

Jimmy was born in Brooklyn, but at a very young age moved to Saugerties, NY, a town roughly halfway between New York City and Albany. He lived there until he was 21, when he moved to Los Angeles to pursue his comedy career. As a teenager, Jimmy was considered a class clown, but was also well-mannered.
4. What was Jimmy Fallon's first movie role?

Answer: Fathers Day

His part (one line) was later cut out, but he wasn't told until the day of the premiere. In at least one scene, however, he can be seen in the background. "Father's Day" (1997) was about two ex-boyfriends who were tricked into searching for a possible son.

The movie ended up with a relatively disappointing performance at the box office (about $35 million worldwide gross v. $83 million in costs). Disappointed at not hearing from Jimmy? You have to decide. The first movie where Jimmy's spoken dialogue can be heard is "Almost Famous" (2000).
5. What year did Jimmy Fallon start on "Saturday Night Live"?

Answer: 1998

Fallon ended up auditioning twice for "Saturday Night Live". The first attempt in 1997 was unsuccessful. The second, which was successful, was the following year. One difference may have been that he could make "SNL" producer Lorne Michaels laugh out loud during his second audition in a way he failed to do during his first audition.

Tina Fey, his contemporary on the show, described him as "one of two people I've ever seen who was completely ready to be on the show". This fulfilled Jimmy's lifelong ambition to be on "Saturday Night Live". He would often perform in improv sets and spent a stint with improv comedy troupe The Groundlings.
6. What is the name of the book Jimmy Fallon wrote with his sister?

Answer: I Hate This Place

The full title of the work by Jimmy and Gloria is "I Hate This Place: A Pessimist's Guide to Life". The book includes a number of e-mails between the siblings dealing with everyday life. The book was published in 1999. This occurred during his early successful days on "Saturday Night Live".
7. True or False: Jimmy has modeled for Calvin Klein?

Answer: True

Jimmy was a model for Calvin Klein during his early days on "Saturday Night Live". His modeling career, which was relatively brief, focused on print ads. Compared to some Calvin Klein models, Jimmy remained dressed, wearing a shirt and tie in one photo and a sweater in another.
8. What show did Jimmy Fallon host on television from 2009-2014?

Answer: Late Night

Jimmy would host 969 episodes of "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon". He also served as a writer on the show. The show was a successor to the franchise originated by David Letterman. The hip-hop band The Roots was the house band for the show with their 2006 hit "Here I Come" serving as an impromptu theme song.

The rest of the show included a comedy monologue, a comedy skit, and a light interview.
9. Jimmy Fallon and his wife have two children. What is unusual about his children?

Answer: Both were born via gestational surrogacy

Jimmy has been married to Nancy Juvonen (b. 1969) since 2007. She is a film producer. They met while Jimmy was on the cast of "Saturday Night Live". Their two children were born in 2013 and 2014 via gestational surrogacy, which is an arrangement where a woman carries and gives birth to a baby for someone else, but she has no genetic connection to the child.
10. Which television show did Jimmy Fallon begin hosting in 2014?

Answer: The Tonight Show

Jimmy is considered the sixth permanent host in the history of "The Tonight Show". This show also features The Roots as the house band, and is broadcast from Studio 6B in 30 Rockefeller Center. Like his previous show, this features a monologue, comedy skits, and interviews. Jimmy's former cast mate on "Saturday Night Live", Tina Fey, has described the program as "an uncommonly warm, welcoming show".
