Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Seth was the third born son of the world's first man

Answer: Adam

At the creation of the world, God created man to have earthly dominion over all life on the planet. Man was created in God's image, and Adam was the first, created by God from the dust of the Earth. After God created Eve, Adam's wife, they had a family. Cain and Abel were the first of their children, and Seth was their third.
2. Lamech was the son of this man who lived to be 969 years old

Answer: Methuselah

Methuselah is the oldest recorded person in scripture, dying at the age of 969 years old. When he was 187, Methuselah became a father after his son Lamech was born. He eventually became a grandfather to Noah, who built the Ark to save his family and the animals from the global flood.
3. Noah was the builder of the Ark, and this man was his father

Answer: Lamech

Lamech became father to Noah when he was 182 years old. While they both likely saw the ark being built, Lamech and his father, Methuselah, both passed away before Noah and his family entered the ark. God likely allowed their passing before the global flood because they, like Noah, were righteous men.
4. This man's son, David, defeated the giant named Goliath

Answer: Jesse

Israel, led by King Saul, were at war with the Philistines, both sides facing off on opposite sides of a valley. Jesse was the father of David, and set things in motion between David and Goliath by sending David to the valley. He sent David with food for David's brothers, who were in Saul's army.
5. Wise King Solomon was raised by his father who was king before him

Answer: David

David and his wife sinned against God, and as punishment, David's unborn child died. After David came back to God, he and his wife gave birth to Solomon. After David's death, Solomon became king. Solomon became known as the wisest king in the history of Israel. Solomon also was the one God allowed to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem.
6. John the Baptist was Jesus' cousin, but this man was his father

Answer: Zacharias

Zacharias was met by Gabriel, an angel of the Lord, who informed him that his wife Elizabeth would give birth to a son, who would pave the way for the Messiah, Jesus. Zacharias questioned the angel because of his and his wife's age. Because he didn't believe Gabriel's words, Zacharias was unable to speak until his son was born. Once John was born and named, Zacharias regained his voice, praising God. John prepared the way for Jesus, who was also John's cousin, informing people that the Messiah was coming.
7. Brothers James and John were sons of this fisherman

Answer: Zebedee

Zebedee was the father of James and John, and all three were fisherman. The brothers were called to follow Jesus as his disciples, leaving Zebedee and their mother behind.
8. Isaac was saved from sacrifice by an angel after God tested the faith of this man, his father

Answer: Abraham

Abraham was a devout follower of God, and is known as the father of many nations. He also had a son of his own, named Isaac. One day, Abraham was tested by God to prove that Abraham was willing to do anything that God asked of him. God asked Abraham to sacrifice Isaac to Him, to prove Abraham's love and devotion. Abraham intended to complete the sacrifice, but God stopped him before he sacrificed Isaac. Abraham proved that his devotion to God was unbreakable.
9. Jacob once wrestled with God, something he probably learned about from his father

Answer: Isaac

Isaac and his wife Rebekah, gave birth to Jacob and his twin older brother, Esau. Jacob tricked his brother into giving him his birthright as the first born, and tricked Isaac into giving him the firstborn's blessing instead of Esau. Isaac was blind, and did not realize he was blessing Jacob, and not Esau.

It was all part of God's plan, making Jacob the father of the twelve who would lead the tribes of Israel.
10. Joseph was given a colorful coat by his father, who had twelve sons, which became the tribes of Israel

Answer: Jacob

Jacob had two wives, Leah and Rachel, but was tricked into marrying Leah before he could marry Rachel. Jacob loved Rachel more than Leah, so God blessed Leah with many sons. Rachel eventually gave birth to Joseph and Benjamin before she died. Since Joseph was from Rachel, Jacob showed love for him more than any of his brothers.
