The fifteenth final in many sports was a memorable affair:
In the United States, the fifteenth
was played in 1918. In it, the Boston Red Sox prevailed over the Chicago Cubs 4 games to 2. Twenty three years later, the fifteenth
was decided (fifteenth in the playoff format era) when the Boston Bruins swept the Detroit Red Wings. It would be another twenty years until the fifteenth
was decided; the Boston Celtics defeated the St. Louis Hawks 4 games to 1 to claim their fourth straight title. The fifteenth
was the final game of the 1980 season and had the AFC's Oakland Raiders face off against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Raiders won the game 27-10.
Up north, the fifteenth
was played on November 26, 1927, at Varsity Stadium in Toronto. The final saw the Toronto Balmy Beach Beachers defeat the Hamilton Tigers by a score of 9-6.
In a more worldwide affair, the fifteenth
was held in the United States in 1994. The final was played between Brazil and Italy, with Brazil winning 3-2 on penalties after a scoreless match. The fifteenth
was played in 2014. Ireland won the tournament on the final day, defeating France in Paris (with a French try overturned in the last seconds) to claim the title over England on points difference.
In individual sports, the fifteenth
was played on July 21, 1891. It featured a new winner, Wilfred Baddeley, who beat runner-up Joshua Pim in four sets; the two would meet in the finals for the next three years as well. Nearly 100 years later, the fifteenth
was held. It was won by Richard Petty, who claimed his fourth victory in the event after leading 170 of the 200 laps. The fifteenth
took place in April 1951. Ben Hogan captured his second victory, defeating runner-up Skee Riegel by two strokes. The fifteenth
was completed in 1921. The race was dominated by Belgian cyclist Léon Scieur, who took the lead in the second stage and held it all the way to the finish, winning by the massive margin of 18 minutes and 36 seconds.
To finish us off, the fifteenth
took place on May 11, 1889. The race was won by Spokane, who finished with a time of 2:34.50. This victory marked the first time a horse had won the race from the farthest outside post position.
