Henry VII (1457-1509) was a Welsh born nobleman who was related to the Lancastrian branch of the Plantagenet family through his mother, Margaret Beaufort. Henry defeated and killed King Richard III at the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485 and was the first King of the Tudor dynasty.
Richard III (1452-1485) was the younger brother of Edward IV and claimed the throne after Edward's death in 1483. He was suspected in the disappearance of Edward's sons, Edward V and Richard of Shrewsbury. Richard was killed at Bosworth Field in 1485.
Richard Neville (1428-1471) the Earl of Warwick, was known as the "Kingmaker", as he fought on the Yorkist side and helped Edward IV to gain the crown. He later switched sides and helped restore Henry VI to the throne. Neville was killed at the Battle of Barnet in 1471 while fighting for the Lancastrians.
Edward IV (1442-1483) was King of England from 1461-1470 and again from 1471-1483. He inherited the Yorkist claim upon the death of his father, Richard, Duke of York, who was killed in battle at Wakefield in 1460. His marriage to Elizabeth Woodville in 1464 caused some of his allies to desert him, and he was deposed in 1470, but regained the throne in 1471. He died in 1483.
Elizabeth of York (1466-1503) was the daughter of King Edward IV and Elizabeth Woodville. She married Henry VII in 1486, thus uniting the Yorkist and Lancastrian factions and giving rise to the Tudor dynasty. Elizabeth was the mother of future king Henry VIII.
Henry VI (1421-1471) was the son of Henry V and was crowned at eight months of age. Henry was also the only English king to be crowned King of France, a title he held until 1453 and the end of the Hundred Years' War. Henry was deposed by Edward IV in 1461 and imprisoned in the Tower of London, but regained the throne for a short time in 1470. He lost the crown to Edward again in April, 1471, and died in the Tower in May of that year.
Margaret of Anjou (1430-1482) was the wife of King Henry VI from 1445 until his death in 1471. Margaret ruled the kingdom during her husband's frequent bouts of insanity, but she was captured after the Battle of Tewkesbury in 1471. She was ransomed by her cousin, King Louis XI of France in 1475 and died there in 1482.
Edward V (1470-1483) was the eldest son of Edward IV and reigned as King from his father's death in April, 1483 until his disappearance and presumed death in June, 1483. Edward and his younger brother, Richard, Duke of York, were entrusted to the care of their uncle Richard, Duke of Gloucester, who had the boys declared illegitimate and seized the throne as Richard III in June, 1483. Neither Edward nor his brother were ever seen again.
Richard 3rd Duke of York (1411-1460) was one of the leading English noblemen and a claimant to the throne in the mid 15th century. He sought to overthrow the weak King Henry VI and thus began the Wars of the Roses in 1455. He was killed in 1460 at the Battle of Wakefield after serving as Lord Protector while King Henry VI was held in captivity. Two of his sons later reigned as Edward IV and Richard III.
Elizabeth Woodville (1437-1492) was a member of a middle ranking English noble family. She married King Edward IV in 1464, which caused many of Edward's allies to desert him. After her husband's death in 1483, Elizabeth helped Henry VII gain the crown. Henry subsequently married Elizabeth's daughter, Elizabeth of York.
