Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "This is torture, this is pain; it feels like I'm gonna go insane."

Answer: When You're Gone

Released in 1998 as the second single from "On a Day Like Today", "When You're Gone" had the best of both worlds: the evolving pop infectiousness of Adam's late-'90s music and the distinctive duet vocals of Melanie C from the Spice Girls who, at the time, were at the peak of their stardom. Though not a hit in the U.S., it received significant radio play in Canada and the UK (the home countries of the duettists) and acted as the first solo track for Mel C who, after the Spice Girls, would move into a significant career as a solo pop artist.
2. "So if you're feelin' lonely-- don't."

Answer: Please Forgive Me

Adams' first Greatest Hits compilation (of many) ended up being his 1993 release of "So Far So Good", and it was "Please Forgive Me" that was added amongst the already-charted classics of his catalogue. It ended up becoming a hit in its own right, hitting number one on the Australian and Canadian singles charts, number two on the UK Singles Chart, and number seven on the Billboard Hot 100. Like "(Everything I Do) I Do It for You" slightly before it, this track fills the soft rock/adult contemporary pocket that Adams resided in through most of the early 1990s.
3. "It's the best story never told."

Answer: Open Road

In 2004, Adams released his tenth studio album, "Room Service", and continued to build his stadium pop-rock catalogue with tracks like "Open Road". It ended up peaking at number twenty-one on the UK Singles Chart, and while the album as a whole was a success in Canada (adding more Juno nominations for Adams), the track wasn't big in radio airplay. Due to Adams' lack of U.S. record company, the album had next to no attention in the States.
4. "Those were the best days of my life."

Answer: Summer of '69

Although Adams had been releasing albums since the late 1970s, "Summer of '69" was his first major breakout hit, becoming an international pop-rock classic over the years and bringing attention to the Canadian singer-songwriter on a massive scale. Going multi-platinum in Australia and the UK, it would top out at number five on the Billboard Hot 100 (and number eleven in Canada).

This being said, it would remain a top-played track on adult contemporary radio in Canada for decades after its release, also being one of the top Canadian streamed/downloaded singles of all time. Adams' fourth album, "Reckless", which this song is featured on, would top the charts in the U.S. and Canada.
5. "Let's make sugar darlin', sweet surrender."

Answer: Let's Make a Night to Remember

Though "The Only Thing That Looks Good on Me Is You" would be the first single to emerge from Bryan Adams' "18 til I Die" album from the mid-1990s, its rock aesthetic would be tempered by this downtempo ballad that saw immense success in his home country of Canada, peaking at the top of the Canada Top Singles and Canada Adult Contemporary charts.

It would also end up on four different U.S. Billboard charts, but not hit the same highs on any of them. It would, nonetheless, be his highest-charting song from the album in the U.S., and his last solo track to chart there in the 1990s.
6. "I'm looking for that perfect line to let you know you're always on my mind."

Answer: The Best of Me

Released at the end of 1999, "The Best of Me" was an apt title for the song, appearing as a promotional single on Bryan Adams' second Greatest Hits anthology (also called "The Best of Me"). It closed out a banner decade for Adams who, after several hit albums and great success in the music industry (and the music-for-movies industry) became a household name for his singles.

The track achieved modest success in Canada and abroad.
7. "You can't tell me it's not worth dyin' for."

Answer: (Everything I Do) I Do It for You

Though originally written for the 1991 film "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves", "(Everything I Do) I Do It for You" became a signature hit for Adams, eventually becoming a track on his "Waking Up the Neighbours" album. The track was one of the most successful made-for-the-movies songs of the 1990s, hitting number one in more than a dozen countries and staying atop the UK Singles Chart longer than any track in history (a record it would continue to hold for more than thirty years).

It ended up losing the Best Original Song Oscar to "Beauty and the Beast", another juggernaut of the time.
8. "Like a star that guides a ship across the ocean..."

Answer: Back to You

Released to listeners for the first time as an "MTV Unplugged" track in 1997, "Back to You" epitomized the pop sensibilities that Bryan Adams would head into the 2000s with. It would end up released on his second Greatest Hits album, "The Best of Me", but chart internationally in late 1997 on the MTV release between his seventh and eighth official albums ("18 til I Die" and "On a Day Like Today"). Appearing on three Canadian singles charts (and topping two of them), the track also managed to squeeze onto four separate Billboard charts in the U.S. (hitting the height of number fourteen on the US Adult Contemporary Chart).
9. "'Cause she needs somebody to tell her that it's gonna last forever."

Answer: Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman?

Though appearing on Adams' seventh album, "18 til I Die", "Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman?" was originally created for the 1995 Johnny Depp film "Don Juan DeMarco", subsequently getting Adams nominated for yet another Grammy and Oscar in 1995. The ballad proved to be another hit for Adams in terms of radio play as well, bringing a uniquely Latin energy to his contemporary style.

It would go on to top both the Billboard Hot 100 and the US Adult Contemporary charts, also appearing in the top ten in the UK, Canada, Australia, and most of Europe.
10. "All ya gotta know is what we got is here to stay."

Answer: On a Day Like Today

The title track for Adams' eighth studio album, "On a Day Like Today" brought the musician almost instantly to the top of the Canada Top Singles and Canada Adult Contemporary charts in Canada but failed to make a dent in any charts State-side. Adams would neglect to appear on the Billboard Hot 100 into the 2000s, making his way straight to the US Adult Contemporary charts instead (and Bubbling Under Hot 100 occasionally). "On a Day Like Today", as a track, would combine the best elements of Adams' pop, contemporary, and rock sensibilities to contribute to a direction for the artist toward arena shows.

Heading into the new millennium, his biggest hits would feel stadium-ready.
