Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Bruce Hornsby and The Range

"Mandolin Rain" was the third single on Bruce Hornsby and The Range's debut album "The Way It Is". The song featured a mandolin and was co-written by Bruce and his brother John. The track reached number sixty-five on the year end countdown for 1986. What made the song's appeal unique was that it appeared on the pop, country, adult contemporary, and rock singles charts.
2. Prince

The picture was a dead giveaway but Prince's landmark 1987 album "Sign 'O The Times" was an instant classic. It ranked number sixty on the 1987 Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and spawned a live concert film based on the double album. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame named this one of the "500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll".
3. ABC

"When Smokey Sings" sadly isn't about Smokey Bear, the advertising icon of the U.S. Forest Service. But it is a throwback Motown hit that references one of R&B music's legends, Smokey Robinson. ABC is a UK band best known for hits like "The Look Of Love", "Be Near Me", and "Poison Arrow".
4. Chris de Burgh

"The Lady In Red" was Chris de Burgh's biggest hit in the States. The song clocked in at number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 Year-End chart for 1987. The song was written by Chris and released on his eighth studio album. De Burgh's song was inspired by his wife when Chris was mesmerized the first time he ever saw her wearing a beautiful red dress.
5. The Bangles

The number one song on the Billboard Hot 100 for 1987 was "Walk Like An Egyptian" by the all-female rock group, The Bangles. It was the group's first number one hit. The sideways glance by lead singer Susanna Hoffs in the music video is one of the most recognizable images from MTV's early days. The song was originally offered to Toni Basil, most famous for her one-hit wonder "Mickey".
6. Bon Jovi

Bon Jovi's album "Slippery When Wet" took the group to new heights. The album's singles included "You Give Love A Bad Name", "Wanted Dead or Alive", and the rock group's highest charting single "Living On A Prayer". In the music video, the props department harnessed lead singer Jon Bon Jovi up and he was seen flying on stage and over the crowd. "Living On A Prayer" has become Bon Jovi's signature song.
7. Herb Alpert Featuring Janet Jackson

The legendary production team of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, both formerly with The Time, struck gold with "Diamonds" in 1987. The song featured backing vocals by Lisa Keith and Janet Jackson. Legendary trumpeter, Herb Alpert, released the song on his twenty-seventh album "Keep Your Eye On Me".

The combination of the Minneapolis funk sound and Alpert's saxophone created a dance floor hit that reached number 79 on the year-end countdown.
8. Crowded House

Crowded House's signature song, "Don't Dream It's Over" is a lush and melancholy song that became the Australian-New Zealand band's biggest international hit. Released in late 1986, it finished as the 13th biggest song of 1987. In a 2001 poll, "Don't Dream It's Over" ranked as the seventh greatest song in Australian music history.
9. Bruce Springsteen

Hard to grab a picture for "disguise" but hopefully you got the clue. Bruce Springsteen's album "Tunnel of Love" had two songs reach number one on the Billboard Rock Singles chart. "Brilliant Disguise" and the album's title track were both recorded with only a few members of his famous E Street Band. The original title for "Brilliant Disguise" was "Is That You".
10. Huey Lewis and The News

The San Francisco based band, Huey Lewis and The News, had three songs on the 1987 year-end Top 100 countdown. "Hip To Be Square" and "Doing It All For My Baby" were each in the lower half of the year-end list. But the album's biggest pop hit that year was "Jacob's Ladder". All three singles came from the band's album "Fore". The song was written by Bruce Hornsby and his brother John.
