Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 'Stay With Me' (1971)

Answer: The Faces

British band The Faces formed in London, England in 1969. The band emerged after Steve Marriott left the Small Faces to form Humble Pie. The remaining members, Ronnie Lane, Ian McLagan, and Kenney Jones, joined forces with Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood from the Jeff Beck Group, creating a new lineup that dropped the 'Small' and became simply Faces.

'Stay With Me' reached number six on the UK Singles Chart in 1971 and number 17 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. Their other singles include: 'Cindy Incidentally', 'You Can Make Me Dance, Sing or Anything', 'Pool Hall Richard' and 'Had Me a Real Good Time'.
2. 'Can't Stay Away from You' (1987)

Answer: Gloria Estefan

Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine originated in Miami, Florida in 1975. It all began when Emilio Estefan Jr. formed a band called The Miami Latin Boys. That same year, Gloria (then Gloria Fajardo) and her cousin Merci Navarro joined the group after an impromptu performance at a Cuban wedding impressed Emilio and the band.

Can't Stay Away From You' peaked at number six on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in 1988, making it their fifth Top Ten hit. It also reached number seven on the UK Singles Chart when it was re-released in 1989. Some other hits are: 'Get on Your Feet', 'Don't Wanna Lose Anything for You', 'Rhythm Is Gonna Get You' and 'Anything for You'.
3. 'Stay (Faraway, So Close!)' (1993)

Answer: U2

U2 formed in Dublin, Ireland on September 25, 1976. The band came together when drummer Larry Mullen Jr. posted a notice on the bulletin board at Mount Temple Comprehensive School looking for musicians to start a band. That Saturday, a group of teenagers, including Bono (Paul Hewson), The Edge (David Evans), Adam Clayton, and others, gathered in Larry's kitchen in Artane, Dublin. That meeting marked the birth of what would become one of the most popular Rock bands in history.

Released in 1993, 'Stay (Faraway, So Close!) reached number one on the Irish Singles Chart and number four on the UK Singles Chart. Some of their other singles include: 'Beautiful Day', 'With or Without You', 'I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For', 'One' and 'Where the Streets Have No Name'.
4. 'Come Back and Stay' (1983)

Answer: Paul Young

Paul Young was born on January 17, 1956, in Luton, Bedfordshire, England. His first brush with chart success came as the frontman of Streetband, best known for the 1978 hit 'Toast'. It was more novelty than Soul, but it got him noticed. After Streetband split, he formed Q-Tips in 1979, a brass-driven soul band that showcased his love for Motown and R&B.

'Come Back and Stay' reached number four on the UK Singles Chart, number 22 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and it was number one in Belgium, Switzerland and West Germany. 'Stay Together for the Kids' reached number 13 on the UK Rock & Metal Singles Chart in 2002 and peaked at number seven on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks (U.S.) in 2001. Other singles of theirs include 'Feeling This', 'The Rock Show', 'I Miss You', 'Always' and 'First Date'.
6. 'Stay' (1992)

Answer: Shakespeares Sister

Shakespeares Sister was formed in 1988 in London, England by Irish singer-songwriter Siobhan Fahey, shortly after she left the pop group Bananarama. Initially conceived as a solo project, it evolved into a duo in 1989 with the addition of American musician Marcella Detroit. The name was inspired by The Smiths' song 'Shakespeare's Sister', itself a nod to Virginia Woolf's essay 'A Room of One's Own', though Fahey's version dropped the apostrophe and became its own distinct identity.

'Stay' was released in 1992 and reached number one on the UK Singles Chart, where it stayed for eight weeks. It also reached number four on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. Among their other singles are: 'I Don't Care', 'You're History', 'Dirty Mind', 'Break My Heart' and 'Heroine'.

Answer: Lisa Loeb & Nine Stories (1994)

That track made her the first artist to top the Billboard Hot 100 without being signed to a label, thanks to its inclusion in the film 'Reality Bites'.

Besides being a hit in America, the song also reached number one in Canada and reached number six on the UK Singles Chart. Her other singles include: 'I Do', 'The Way It Really Is', 'Underdog' 'Let's Forget About It' and 'Falling in Love'.

The original release of 'Should I Stay or Should I Go', released as a double A-side with 'Straight to Hell' (1982) reached number 17 on the UK Singles Chart.
