John Lennon and George Harrison got their then manager, Allen Klein, to give the recordings for the "Let It Be" album to Phil Spector. Paul McCartney had not been in contact with the other group members for some time because of his opposition to Allen Klein's appointment as The Beatles manager.

Paul McCartney did not like the additions Spector had made to the recordings, particularly the ones to "The Long And Winding Road". Spector's answer was that he had to orchestrate "The Long And Winding Road" to cover up the substandard bass playing, by none other than John Lennon.
