"Roundabout" is one of the most celebrated songs by the British progressive rock band Yes. It was released in 1971 on the album "Fragile" and was written by vocalist Jon Anderson and guitarist Steve Howe.
"Roundabout" was conceived after the band toured Scotland, where they traveled through winding roads and roundabouts that inspired the song's title and atmosphere of discovery. The recording also featured the unmistakable keyboards of Rick Wakeman, who had recently joined the band. Throw in Chris Squire's bass and Bill Bruford's drums, and you've got yourself a progressive rock classic.
The lyrics of "Roundabout" are more impressionistic than any kind of straightforward story. Often elliptical, often mysterious, the words conjure up images of nature, travel, shared experiences, and the sense of coming home. Jon Anderson described the song as being influenced by the beauty of the Scottish landscape and a general feeling of discovery during the journey.
