Dear Diary, I was at a music festival today with who I had not seen for a few years. I learnt that she recently lost her husband and yet she generously offered her now-spare ticket. "Don't argue, , it's my treat", she kindly insisted, knowing of my current dire straits. Knowing I am a fan, she predicted Billy would be a feature. So I did my best to be patient.

The day duly arrived and so did we but where to start? So much choice. There was a bit of a crowd surge happening at one arena entrance. Our friend emerged unscathed to join us with the comment: "It's getting really catty over there". A set had just finished at the Cairo arena and a rapid was starting there so we moved on.

We wandered past a "Who's Got Talent?" contest. It puzzled me why the had unusual names like Othniel, Ehud and Gideon. It was a when it was explained that they were themed names. Our Canaan history buff supplied the intel. He had spotted us loitering and joined the group. Unfortunately he had also the irritating habit of quoting , apparently as a way to showcase his wisdom. So now we were four but we were soon joined ...

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

Starting with the Old Testament Book of Ruth, it narrates how the Moabite Ruth behaved after she lost her husband along with the other males of her family. She was known for her kindness to her mother-in-law Naomi and the people of Judah. In the text, the clues are her being a widow and her generosity for gifting the ticket.

The Book of Job tells of how the wealthy Job lost all his property, children and health but not his faith. This has given rise to the idiom 'the patience of Job'. In the text, the narrator's dire straits are mentioned, as well as his desire to show patience.

The diarist's friend Ruth also predicts (in other words, makes a prophesy) that Billy Joel songs will feature. Of the prophetic books in the Old Testament, the Book of Joel best fits the context. The Book of Revelation, the New Testament's prophetic book, comes later in the diary excerpt.

The Book of Numbers gets its name from the two censuses taken of the Israelites in the book. Numbers describes the final part of the Israelites' journey from slavery in Egypt, a journey which started in the Book of Exodus and included the parting of the Red Sea. No particular clues are in the diary extract for these two Books other than these being the most appropriate words in the context.

The apocalyptic Book of Daniel comes next. The story referenced in the text is that of Daniel being saved from a den of lions. The Book of Daniel is considered to contain examples of hindsight bias, where prophesies have been written with foreknowledge of the events described. A term for such "prophesies" is 'vaticinium ex eventu' (meaning 'prophecy from the event').

The Book of Judges covers a period when the leadership role was temporarily filled by biblical judges. In the Bible it describes a period with cycles of unfaithfulness followed by war, repenting and the appearance of a saviour. The three contest judges mentioned in the text are three of the six main judges listed in the Book of Judges.

The Book of Revelation comes next. There is no specific clue in the diary excerpt for this, other than the context. Also known as the Book of the Apocalypse or the Apocalypse of John, it is the final book in the New Testament. Written in Greek, the name of the book is taken from the first word of the text. The Greek word can mean 'revelation, 'apocalypse' or 'unveiling' when anglicised. It is also unclear who the book's author John is.

Next comes the Book of Joshua, which describes a history from the conquest of Canaan by the Israelites through to the Babylonian exile. The book is named after Joshua who was the leader during this time. The accuracy of the history set out in the book has been questioned. The relevant quiz clue is the expertise in Canaan history.

Mostly linked with King Solomon, the Book of Proverbs is a form of biblical wisdom literature that covers more than a thousand years. As such it gives an insight into the morals and values of the time. The quiz clue is the mention of a key element of the Book of Proverbs, namely wisdom.
