Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Brett's football career began to take off at the college level. Which college did he play at?

Answer: University of Southern Mississippi

Brett played at Southern Miss for four seasons before being drafted by the Atlanta Falcons. He was drafted in the second round, number 33 overall in the 1991 NFL Draft.
2. Favre's first NFL season was with the Atlanta Falcons. Being rather disliked by the head coach, he played in only two games in 1991. Who was the Falcons head coach for Brett's only season with Atlanta?

Answer: Jerry Glanville

For whatever reason, Glanville treated Brett rather poorly, and even less than Glanville normally treated rookies. It may have been the four pass attempts by Favre, he was sacked once and threw two interceptions. He never completed a pass to a fellow Falcon. The Falcons finished the season with a 10-6 record.
3. In 1992, Brett was traded to the Packers for the 19th pick in the 1992 NFL Draft. What a future deal this was for Green Bay. He started for the first time in his career in the fourth game of the season. Who did coach Mike Holmgren bench to make way for Favre?

Answer: Don Majkowski

Majkowski got off to a slow start in the season, so Brett started the fourth game. He would start every game in the rest of the season. The Packers finished 9-7, and Brett threw for 3227 yards with 18 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Holmgren liked the promise that Favre showed.
4. Although Brett threw 24 interceptions in 1993, the Packers still made it to the playoffs as a wildcard, but lost in the division playoff. Then, the 1995 season was big for Brett and the Packers, but lost in the Conference Championship game to which team?

Answer: Cowboys

The others weren't in the same conference. Favre threw a personal best 4413 passing yards with 38 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. The Cowboys beat them in the playoffs, 38-27, and would go on to win the Super Bowl.
5. Favre and the Packers finally became one in the 1996 season, as together they won a Super Bowl. Having the best record in football at 13-3, who did they defeat in Super Bowl XXXI?

Answer: New England Patriots

The Packers beat the Patriots 35-21. Although Brett played outstanding in the game, kick returner Desmond Howard was named Super Bowl MVP for his 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, and a combined 244 return yards in the game.
6. Favre played from 1991-2010. What was his highest season passing yard total?

Answer: 4413

Five times in his career, Favre hit the 4000-yard mark in a season. They were 4413 in 1995, 4212 in 1998, 4091 in 1999, 4088 in 2004, and 4202 in 2009.
7. How many times in Brett's 20-season career did he throw for 30 touchdowns in a season?

Answer: 9

Brett's highest season total was 39 in 1996 against only 13 interceptions. In that season, he took the Packers to a Super Bowl crown. He threw 38 touchdowns in the previous season.
8. In 2008, the Packers wanted to go in a different direction, and without Favre. Which team signed him for the season?

Answer: New York Jets

Although starting every game for the Jets, they didn't fare well. Brett threw for 3472 yards, but threw 22 touchdowns against the same number of interceptions. The Jets finished the season at 9-7 and didn't make the playoffs.
9. In 2009, Brett was up to his old self with the Vikings, throwing for over 4000 yards with 33 touchdowns and only seven interceptions. The result was a 12-4 Viking record. It would come to a stop in the Conference Championship game with two costly interceptions thrown by Brett. Who beat the Vikings in that game, and went on to win the Super Bowl?

Answer: New Orleans Saints

The Saints won Super Bowl XLIV 31-17 against the Colts. The Saints took out the Vikings in the Conference Championship game 31-28. Although Favre threw for 310 yards with one touchdown, he also gave up the two passes that resulted in Saint scores.
10. Brett retired (once again) after the 2010 season with the Vikings. Amongst all his records was the most consecutive games started in a career. His record streak stopped in December 2010. How many consecutive games did he start?

Answer: 297

Although he maintained that smile and youth atmosphere, his 41-year old body was healing slower than his early days. On December 13, even with the game rescheduled due to the Metrodome roof collapsing in a snow storm, Brett couldn't start the game against the Giants due to an injury, and the Vikings lost it 21-3. Minnesota finished a disappointing 6-10 in the season. Amongst his records, Favre was the first quarterback to throw for over 70,000 career yards, throw 500 touchdowns, throw 300 interceptions, and have 10,000 pass attempts.
