Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who won the thrilling 1993 PGA Championship on the second extra hole?

Answer: Paul Azinger

Greg Norman missed two birdie putts to win the match on the last regulation hole, and on the first extra hole, and missed a par putt on the second extra hole.
2. Who won the inaugural PGA Championship one up at Siwanoy Country Club?

Answer: Jim Barnes

Tom Kerrigan was the pro at Siwanoy, and beat Charles Adams in the first round. He fell to the eventual champion, Jim Barnes, in the quarterfinals. He met Jock Hutchison Sr in the final. It was down to the wire all the way, but Jim sunk a five foot putt on the last to clinch it.
3. Who won the PGA Championship in 1975 after having an up and down from 135m on the huge 625m par 5 17th?

Answer: Jack Nicklaus

Nicklaus' playing partner Bruce Crampton said after the final round "I'm not a machine. Jack's the closest thing we have to a machine, and even he makes some mistakes. Not very many, though".
4. Who won the 1962 PGA Championship, and became only the fifth international player to win the title?

Answer: Gary Player

Before he went to the championship he decided to carry a 4 Wood, and that proved decisive in his 2-under total, beating Bob Goalby by a shot.
5. Who won the 2001 PGA Championship, setting the 72 hole record for a major championship?

Answer: David Toms

David knocked a 5 Wood into the hole on the 243 yard 15th hole for a hole-in-one. He then grabbed the lead. Phil Mickelson holed a birdie putt on the same hole to tie, but dropped a shot on the next hole with a three putt. On the 18th, Toms elected to lay up short of the water for two on the par 4 hole.

He hit his next shot to 12 feet, and with Mickleson in the hole for par, Toms made the putt to win his first major.
6. Who won the 1951 PGA Championship, defeating Walter Burkemo in the final?

Answer: Sam Snead

Sam won 7 and 6. He played the 202 holes of the championship in 21 under par, and 24 under for the front 9.
7. Who won the 1994 PGA Championship at Southern Hills Country Club?

Answer: Nick Price

Nick became the first person since Tom Watson in 1982 to win 2 majors in a row, when he shot a final round 67 for a total of 271. With this victory, he became world No 1.
8. Who won the 1982 PGA Championship, after an 8 under par 72 hole total?

Answer: Raymond Floyd

Ray never 3-putted on the slick Southern Hills Country Club greens. He had a putting average of 28.5 putts per round. His opening round of 63, tied the record for the lowest first round. This was his second PGA Championship and 3rd major title.
9. Who won the 1968 PGA Championship at Pecan Valley Country Club?

Answer: Julius Boros

Julius then became the oldest winner of the PGA Championship at age 48. Arnold Palmer became annoyed that he couldn't win a PGA Championship, that being the only major that he hadn't won. He slashed his 18th tee shot into the trees, but still managed to smash a 3 Wood to 12 feet. He missed the putt to lose the tournament.
10. Who won the 1999 PGA Championship at the age of 23?

Answer: Tiger Woods

Tiger won by a shot from a young Sergio Garcia. Sergio hit an amazing shot on the 16th. He pushed a 3 Wood into the trees and landed 189 yards from the green lodged in large roots behind a large tree. He opened the face of his 6 iron, closed his eyes and hammered it 60 feet from the hole.
