Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The 2005 "Children in Need" charity special aired between the "Doctor Who" Series 1 finale and the Christmas Special "The Christmas Invasion". What is the title of this short?

Answer: Born Again

"Born Again" is an appropriate title to introduce the newly-regenerated Doctor (David Tennant, replacing Christopher Eccleston). The special provided an opportunity for Tennant to show his reaction to his new body, as he proclaims over his hair, his sideburns, and the fact that he has (and can feel) a mole.

Throughout the short, Rose is stunned and disbelieving. At first she thinks the Doctor has been transmatted away and replaced, and she asks him if he is a Slitheen. The Doctor argues that she saw him change right in front of her.
2. To convince Rose that he is, indeed, who he says he is, the Doctor reminds her of the first word that he said to her when they met. What was the word?

Answer: "Run!"

The Doctor reminds Rose of the events seen in the Series 1 episode "Rose", when she was about to be killed by shop-window dummies (Autons animated by the Nestene Consciousness). He grabs her hand and simply says, "Run!"

Having just regenerated, David Tennant's Doctor is able to convince Rose with this memory, but then something goes wrong with his regeneration cycle, and the short leaves off with the TARDIS heading for London on Christmas Eve.
3. In the first Tardisode, the prequel to "New Earth", the Sisters of Plenitude claim the ability to cure anything. What terminal disease is cured as a demonstration?

Answer: Autrey syndrome

The first Tardisode plays like an advertisement trying to convince you to come to New Earth to be cured of whatever might be ailing you. No explanation is given regarding Autrey syndrome, apart from the fact that it is terminal. Right at the end of the short, a little foreshadowing is provided to hint that all might not be well... the screen goes black and you hear screams and a patient crying, "Help me! Please, help me!"
4. The Tardisode prequel to "Tooth and Claw" opens with a meteor crashing into the earth. Then, 300 years later, who gets attacked by a werewolf?

Answer: An old man

In the episode "Tooth and Claw", we learn that the meteor fell to earth in 1540, landing near a monastery. Thus we get to see the beginning of the 'legend' of the werewolf of the Scottish moors. The episode "Tooth and Claw" takes place in 1879.
5. In the "School Reunion" prequel Tardisode, which character do we see researching on the Internet for signs of aliens?

Answer: Mickey Smith

In the episode "School Reunion", Mickey is upset with being considered the equivalent of the metal dog (a reference to K-9, who also appears in the episode). In this prequel, he actively tries to find evidence that will bring Rose and the TARDIS (and the Doctor) back to Earth, proving that he is useful.
6. What happens to disable the spaceship "SS Madame de Pompadour" in the Tardisode prequel to "The Girl in the Fireplace"?

Answer: It encounters an ion storm

I think this might be my favourite Tardisode. After the effects of the ion storm have severely damaged the ship, the scene shows a crew member just waking up. The sound of clockwork gets louder as 'something' approaches the injured woman, and at first she is relieved, but it quickly turns to screams as the scene cuts away to an ornate clock on a fireplace mantel.
7. In the Tardisode prequel to "Rise of the Cybermen", alternate universe Ricky Smith is watching a report on John Lumic, head of Cybus Industries. How many people does the report say have gone missing in the 'South American State'?

Answer: 265,000

The report goes on to describe the 'upgrades' and actually shows a Cyberman, which is somewhat contrary to the actual episode "Rise of the Cybermen" wherein the appearance of Cybermen was a complete surprise to everyone when it happened. Ricky, of course, is the alternate version of Mickey Smith, who the Doctor always calls 'Ricky', anyway, insisting that it is his real name.
8. Tardisode number six falls between the two-part Cyberman stories "Rise of the Cybermen" and "The Age of Steel". It shows the production of Cybermen going into effect around the globe, and demands that what happen to all incompatible versions?

Answer: Delete

"Delete" is the catch phrase of the Cybermen, in the same way that "Exterminate" is for the Daleks. It is a nice foreshadowing of the difficulty that the Doctor has in the episode "Rise of the Cybermen" when he tries to prevent being attacked by the Cybermen by volunteering for an upgrade. Instead of being accepted, the Cybermen call him 'incompatible', and continue their attack.
9. In the Tardisode prequel to "The Idiot's Lantern", an elderly woman sits down to watch her new television, and we see tendrils of light steal her face away.

Answer: False

The elderly woman sits to watch her television, and the tendrils of light (like red lightning) cause her to go up to her TV and bang on it to try and get it to work. Suddenly, the light starts moving towards her, and she backs up in fear... and that's all you see before the screen goes black and changes to an advertisement for the upcoming coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.
10. "The Impossible Planet" expedition is being discussed in the eighth Tardisode, but what is the name of the man who will lead the expedition?

Answer: Captain Walker

In addition to data regarding the impossibility of a planet holding orbit around a black hole, there is also a notebook with an unknown language and various drawings. The woman behind the desk (the one commissioning the expedition) hands the notebook to Captain Walker's Ood, who says "And the beast shall rise from the pit" as the Tardisode ends.

In "The Impossible Planet", we learn that Captain Walker died, leaving Zachary Cross Flane as Acting Captain.
11. Falling between the two-part story "The Impossible Planet" and "The Satan Pit", Tardisode number nine has an expedition member going through the Captain's personal effects, including the notebook with the unknown language. What happens to the notebook?

Answer: It bursts into flame.

A number of the happenings from "The Impossible Planet" and "The Satan Pit" show themselves in this Tardisode, including the computer speaking things like "He shall awake" and "He is coming", as well as the mysterious writing in the notebook showing up on a person's face.

The two characters (not counting the Ood that delivers Captain Walker's things) that appear in this Tardisode do not appear in either of the full episodes.
12. The Tardisode prequel to "Love & Monsters" has the unseen Abzorbaloff Victor Kennedy looking at the LINDA webpage (London Investigation 'N' Detective Agency). He uses an alien device to hack the webpage and pinpoint the location of LINDA, which turns out to be on what fictional London street?

Answer: Macateer Street

Although the character is never shown in the Tardisode, he is holding the same cane that Victor Kennedy used in "Love & Monsters", and he made the same panting, slurpy noise that the Abzorbaloff made. Also, when the lady comes in with tea at the end of the Tardisode, the light in the room shines green, as it does when we see him change in the full episode.
13. With missing children to be found, the Tardisode prequel to "Fear Her" takes the form of a "Crimewatch" broadcast, asking for the audience to call in if they can help solve the crime. What is the name of the (fictional) show?

Answer: Crime Crackers

The two missing children (not explicitly named in "Fear Her") are a boy named Dale Hicks and a girl called Jane McEllen. The presenter then gives a 19-digit phone number for people to call in to, if they have any information.

The Tardisode ends with a quick zoom in on a closet that opens to reveal glowing red eyes along with a deep voice that whispers, "I'm coming."
14. In the twelfth Tardisode, the prequel to "Army of Ghosts", a man is investigating Torchwood, and believes he has evidence that connects them to the 'ghosts', and even to events as far back as Queen Victoria. What is this man's profession?

Answer: A newspaper reporter

The man has pictures of the Doctor at the Torchwood Estate (from the episode "Tooth and Claw"), along with other evidence making a thick package. As he presents his 'story of the century' to his editor, he gets dragged away by two men wearing white, while a third man in a suit tells the editor, "Torchwood appreciates your loyalty, Madam."
15. The last Tardisode falls between the two-part "Army of Ghosts" and "Doomsday" Torchwood story, depicting a news broadcast with a message from the government. During the broadcast, all contact with the government is lost, and the anchor advises everyone to run if they see any Cybermen. What happens to her live on air?

Answer: A Dalek attacks

At the end of "Army of Ghosts", the only thing the audience knows is that the 'ghosts' are actually Cybermen, come through from the same alternate dimension previously seen in "Rise of the Cybermen" and "The Age of Steel". The arrival of a Dalek at the end of this Tardisode beautifully foreshadows the coming clash between the two classic enemies of the Doctor in "Doomsday".
