Although Charles Dubin direct the most "M*A*S*H" episodes, the pilot was directed by Gene Reynolds. He started his career in show business as a child actor. After WW2 he couldn't find any acting jobs, so turned to writing and directing. He was nominated for twenty-four Emmy Awards and won six times, including Outstanding Comedy Series and the Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Direction of a Comedy Series twice for his work on "M*A*S*H".

He passed away in 2020 at age 96.

Ginger Bayliss was played by Odessa Cleveland. She appeared for twenty episodes from 1972 to 1974 and two episodes in 1977. She had roles in a handful of other TV shows as a guest star, but had the most appearances in "M*A*S*H". In this scene, the irascible Burns is less than happy with her performance.

Dean Lodge, was apparently in charge of Hawkeye's alma mater. Of course, the dean agreed to sponsor Ho Jon. When Hawkeye received the reply, he mentioned that he got a letter from Dean Lodge. Trapper asks, "Is that a good place to stay?"

Of course, the incentive is enough to raise the money needed. Hawkeye goes ahead with the raffle party even though Henry ordered a stop to it.

When Frank destroys their still, Hawkeye and Trapper pull a duffel bag over his head and shove him out of their tent. When Henry left the camp for a meeting, Hawkeye went ahead and held the raffle party anyway. The surgeons, knowing Frank, who was then in command, would squeal, drugged him, wrapped him up in gauze, and put him in a post-op bed.

Why the priest would have bought a ticket for a weekend with a nurse is never explained. Hawkeye likely rigged the drawing figuring it would be the safest way to get out of it with honor. George Morgan played Mulcahy only in this episode, after that, William Christopher assumed the role.

Played by George "G." Wood, Brigadier General Hammond is presented as an older man who may have had a previous relationship with Margaret. Wood appeared in both the movie and 3 episodes of the first season on the "M*A*S*H" TV series. He passed away in 2000 at age 80.
