Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of these stops Gino's captor from harming him further?

Answer: A military tattoo

Gino awakens to find himself bound by the hands, seated in front of a TV in a home that isn't his own. As he fusses with his bindings, a voice tells him not to move-- not yet-- before he's injected with a needle in his arm.

Gino wakes up again, this time to the feeling of a needle being pushed under his fingernails. He's told that his arms are going to be raised until his shoulder joints dislocate. He will feel it. The person torturing Gino says that homosexuals bleed the same as everyone else, and everyone else needs to see it. There's a war coming.

As the man cuts open Gino's shirt he reveals his military tattoo and says that it simply won't do. He can't do what he's doing to another brother in arms; it would be unfair to serve twice. He puts Gino back to sleep and says that when he awakens he can tell the police whatever he wants. Since the cops won't do anything about it, it won't matter. He thanks him for his service.

Gino awakens to the sound of heavy bass and stumbles out of a stall in the back of a dirty video shop. Finding his way to the street, he collapses.
2. Dr. Wells claims that Sam would have gotten his cryptosporidium by which means?

Answer: Sexual transmission

Dr. Wells continues her research in the lab, determining that her patients are starting to get sick. Sam stops by her office for the latest diagnosis and she explains that he has cryptosporidium, a sexually-transmitted amoeba that is, for all intents, incredibly rare. The catch is that she's seen four cases of it in the past month. Hopefully, she says, the immune system keeps it down. She gives Sam a prescription and tells him to get three days of bedrest and it should deal with itself.

As Sam leaves Dr. Wells' office, the other patients in the waiting room talk about their recent illnesses and ailments. One girl says that no one appears able to diagnose her recent skin rash. She asks another patient, Mr. Whitely, what he's in for and he claims he's there for a cat scratch on his wrist. When he enters Dr. Wells' office, however, he too has the rash and it won't go away.
3. To get more information about the crimes in New York, Adam suggests which of these to track the issues?

Answer: A phone line

Adam stops by 'The Downtown Native's' offices to visit Gino and ask if he can publish Sully's story in the paper since he continues to be missing and the police don't seem interested in helping. Gino's busy, however, writing his newest article about his abduction, a call-out against the police for their idleness in dealing with the killer stalking gay men in Lower Manhattan. Fortunately, after he was left in the seedy video store, he was found on the street by two drag queens walking by and brought to safety.

There's a 30% increase in violence against gay men in the city over the last two years, he says. There's no use in going to the NYPD though. He knows gay men in the police and they won't help, so he will go to his typewriter and tell his truth.

Gino tells Adam that Sully probably isn't coming home. He's probably dead and he'll have to have a long think about what to do about that. Adam suggests creating a phone line for tips and records on the crime against gay men in the city, but Gino worries it'll put a target on their backs. Nonetheless, the pair send out the story and put up posters. Before long, the phone is off the hook...and Adam is nabbed by the NYPD.
4. Gino allows lesbian writers on his staff in advance of what upcoming event?

Answer: Pride

At his desk, Gino receives another visit from the trio of lesbians who stop by to decry his lack of women in the paper. He assures them that he understands their concern, but with a real-life killer on the loose, he can't afford to humour their ask. This said, he has an issue coming up for pride in the near future-- a double issue-- and if they want to do it, they can take a desk in the corner and write whatever they want as long as they leave him alone.

Adam, meanwhile, is brought into the precinct for questioning under Detective Read and his colleagues. Read reminds him that he followed up on his missing persons concern, but Adam couldn't keep quiet, and now it seems as though he's out to oppose the NYPD. Unfortunately for the police, his chief says, they're bound by the limitations of the law. That's why they bring in someone from outside the force to harass him.

Adam is placed into a cell and Read brings him a soda as a peace offering. Adam asks if anyone knows about him, but Read denies whatever he's implying. He tells Adam that if he hears anything new, he can call him directly, but otherwise he should lay low.
5. Barbara finds a case containing Patrick's hidden items and shows it to Gino. Where did she find it?

Answer: In their basement

As Gino leaves his apartment he's intercepted by Barbara who says that she needs to let him know of something important. Considering the events in the village as of late, she was caught off-guard when she was cleaning out the basement and found a case containing a number of bandanas and leather bondage gear, something Read once claimed not to know anything about. Barbara realizes that Gino didn't know anything about this.

Adam is picked up from prison and his friend lets him know that it's a good thing he's able to walk free. There's a party being held in the seediest part of the city at an old warehouse bought by a rich queen looking to combine decadence with squalor. He'll have to dress up, but it'll be a good time since all the hippest artists will be there.

As Adam heads home on the subway he has a hallucination, believing that a crazy woman speaking nonsense gives him one clear message: "something is coming."
6. At a leather bar, a man named Stewart receives a drink from a man he's never met. Does he drink it?

Answer: No

Over dinner in their apartment, Gino and Read talk about the issue at hand. Gino explains that when he went to the NYPD, no one did anything-- they didn't even attend to his wounds. Worse is that when the killer let him go, he said that the NYPD wouldn't want to do anything even if he went to them. Read takes offence to this, but Gino lays in, noting that no one even went to the Brownstone to question the staff. They know where the killer will probably feel safest and they know he's into leather and bandanas, so with that knowledge, they pick a leather bar and head out.

At one such club-- a man by the name of Stewart receives a drink from a man at the end of the bar, at least according to the bartender. When they look over, there's no one there. Stew swaps the drink for a beer instead.

When Stew heads outside, he walks past a ringing payphone and, thinking it odd, picks up the receiver. The man on the other and flirts a bit, inviting him over to his place, insisting he's inviting Stew for a party the two of them can enjoy together. It takes only a little coaxing; the man on the other end of the line knows what Stew likes.
7. Adam attends a costume party in an abandoned warehouse, finding that amongst its guests are countless numbers of which of these?

Answer: Cats

Adam arrives at the decadence party and finds that it's already underway not only with people, but with numerous cats allegedly saved from the ASPCA as an act of art and protest. As the partygoers approach the stage for an announcement, Adam's friend, Morris, is brought up to assist the host who, taking a needle and drawing something from a little black vial, injects himself before commencing a poem. The host points to Adam directly as he makes his performance and says, much to his surprise, that "something is coming". It's enough to unsettle him and he decides to depart without Morris, but in doing so he bumps into Theo, also in attendance.

When Adam gets outside, Theo follows to see if he's alright. Their discussion shifts quickly to Theo's love life; Adam thinks he can do better. It's what compels him to ask Theo out for a drink and a chat for the evening.
8. While Read and Gino visit the leather club, a different man is ordered a mai tai. What happens to this man while they're further down the bar?

Answer: He's stabbed in the neck

Read and Gino arrive at the leather bar of their choosing; it happens to be the same one that Stu visited earlier in the night. Gino knows one of the owners, Alana, who comes by asking how he's doing. When he says he's there looking into leads on the murders, she tells him not to get too messy in the club since she can't have the place shut down. At worst, he'll end up in an oil drum in New Jersey.

As Gino grabs himself and Read a beer at the bar, he comments that it must be hard living life in denial like Read does. He knows that Read's been to this bar, or one like it, before. Barbara came by, he says, and showed the case containing the leather.

Another man hits on Read at the bar and is rebuffed. When he takes a spot further along he's given a mai tai from a mystery man that the bartender can't identify. Despite the fruitiness of the drink, he finishes it off. The man who bought it comes up behind him and stabs him in the neck before departing.
9. Meeting Fran in Central Park, Dr. Wells is informed that the deer on Fire Island and the recent medical concerns stem from attacks brought on by which of these sources?

Answer: The U.S. government

As two men head home for the night, finding a stray cat along the way, they don't notice as Big Daddy stands further behind them, down the street. They proceed into the fog.

Dr. Wells records her findings for the day, speaking into her tape recorder about Mr. Whitely's results. When he came in earlier, he complained of a rash on his foot which she obtained scrapings from and proceeded to test. Believing the rash to be a kaposi sarcoma, she worries that the odd outbreak of these may be an ongoing cause for concern.

Wells receives a call in her office from someone claiming to have answers about both the outbreak and the deer dilemma on Fire Island and she's asked to meet them at the equestrian statue in Central Park. When she arrives there, however, a hulking, shadowy man appears down the path and frightens her in the other direction.

Fortunately, she runs into the person she came to meet. Fran, one of the women hired by Gino for the paper, explains that there's a group of vulnerable people in the city under attack by the U.S. government, and it's linked to her findings.
10. Detective Read is called to a crime scene in a city alleyway. What does he find there?

Answer: Severed hands

In the morning, Sam returns to his apartment and walks by Big Daddy, standing outside his front door. He lets himself in, dropping off his prescription and grabbing a key out of a small case. He uses it to unlock a cupboard door, entering a stairwell that brings him to a sealed basement. This is where he finds Stewart, who he's locked into a cage in the cellar. Grabbing an implement off a nearby table, Sam says it's time to have some fun.

Patrick wakes up in the middle of the night to find Gino already awake in the living room. The two discuss the murder they were present for, but since there was no trace of drugs in the mai tai that was dropped on the floor, there's no clear connection to the recent killings. They start to discuss Gino's recent ordeal, but the phone rings. Patrick has to get dressed; they found something.

At sunrise, Read heads to an address and into an otherwise locked alleyway to find something the killer has left behind. The chief has to admit-- Read's hunch was right about a serial killer being out there. Above them, suspended by hooks, are six different severed hands.
