Answer: Loaves of bread

The title of the episode is 'Bread and Lottery', referring to a cruel game played by the Recruiter. He buys 100 loaves and 100 lottery tickets, goes up to homeless people in a park and asks them to choose between a loaf or a ticket. Most of them choose the tickets, none of which are winning ones, and the Recruiter stamps on the bread in a rage. Kim and Woo-seok follow him and ignore Gi-hun's advice to wait for backup, and try to catch him themselves. The Recruiter knocks them both out, captures them and ties them up, and forces them to play a deadly game of Rock Paper Scissors.

The game is a cross between Rock Paper Scissors and Russian Roulette, and the Recruiter loads the gun with extra bullets to make it more interesting. Kim deliberately loses to Woo-seok, allowing him to survive while Kim is shot. After being ticketed for speeding, Gi-hun returns to the hotel to find the Recruiter waiting, while Woo-seok is tied up in another room. He challenges Gi-hun to a game of Russian Roulette, without spinning the revolver. When they reach the bullet, Gi-hun tells the Recruiter that if he shoots him, he has to accept he is just a lapdog, in an ironic repeater of what the Recruiter said to him earlier. The Recruiter shoots himself.

Answer: A criminal

No-eul works at an amusement park as a mascot while living in her car. At the amusement park, she gives a lollipop to a little girl with cancer whose father, Gyeong-seok, is an artist. The girl sneaks into the staff room and gives No-eul a drawing she made. No-eul is revealed to be a defector from North Korea, having left the country after killing her superior, and visits the same broker as Sae-byeok from the previous series. While sleeping in her car, No-eul is given a card, but in a twist, she is revealed to have been recruited as a Pink Soldier because of her military skills.

Meanwhile, Woo-seok has hired a group of military veterans as mercenaries and Gi-hun has had a tracker planted in his tooth by a clandestine dentist. He allows himself to be captured at a party in a club and Hwang Jun-ho, who is now cooperating with Gi-hun, follows him along with the mercenaries. However, the Pink Soldiers shoot the tyres of their cars and Jun-ho's car is blown up by a bomb they had placed underneath it, although he survives. Gi-hun is trapped in the car with the Front Man and decides to enter the games anyway.

Answer: A bee lands on her

Several new players are introduced at the start of the game. These include Thanos, a rapper; Cho Hyun-ju, a trans woman; gambling addict Park Yong-sik and his elderly mother Jang Geum-ja; Lee Myung-gi, a former cryptocurrency YouTuber and his pregnant ex-girlfriend, Kim Jun-hee; Im Jeong-dae, an old man with a debt of ten billion won; Kang Mi-na, a fan of Thanos; and Park Jung-bae, a friend of Gi-hun who has not seen him for three years. Thanos and his friend Nam-gyu are both angry with Myung-gi as they paid into his schemes and lost money because of it.

As with the previous season, the first game is 'Red Light Green Light'. Gi-hun puts his arm over his mouth to avoid the motion detectors and orders everyone to follow him and stay still when the doll turns round, or they will die. While it works at first, Thanos tells Mi-na that a bee has landed on her and she freaks out, and is subsequently shot dead, causing players to panic and ignore Gi-hun. Thanos also gets a couple of players killed by pushing them. No-eul is one of the snipers and is shown to be efficient, shooting players fatally (which annoys the members of the organ harvesting ring). However, Gi-hun's plan does save lives and fewer players are eliminated this time.

Answer: 001

The episode is '001', which gives it away! Gi-hun is accused of being a plant, and Jeong-dae is right that there is a plant, but not who it is. In-ho picks the name of Oh Young-il, which sounds like the Korean for '001'. Like Oh Il-nam in the previous season, he is infiltrating the games and is particularly interested in Gi-hun. In the first vote, the No votes - represented by an X - are tying 182-182 with the Yes votes, represented by an O. In-ho, unsurprisingly, breaks the tie by voting Yes. At the end of the episode, his identity is revealed to the audience, though of course, the players don't know what the Front Man looks like and the Pink Soldiers' masks distort their voices.

Several players, such as Jeong-dae, vote to continue the games in the hope that more players will die and the prize pot will grow bigger, as there is not enough money to pay everyone's debts as it stands. Some of the O voters also expect Gi-hun - who votes X - to give them advice on how to survive the games. The players are given X or O Velcro patches to add to their tracksuits and show which way they voted. This becomes a huge source of conflict as the season goes on.

Answer: Dalgona

For the Six-Legged Pentathlon, players must divide into groups of five. Hyun-ju is rejected by a group of men for being a trans woman, and she ends up teaming with Kim Young-mi, a shy young woman, Geum-ja - who is also being ignored due to her age - Yong-sik and Seon-nyeo, a shaman. The players are given five games to play, one for each player, and must pass them within a time limit. The games are Ddakji; Flying Stone, which involves throwing a stone and knocking another one down; Gonggi, a game played by girls that involves balancing plastic tokens on the hands; spinning a top; and Jegi, similar to Hackeysack.

The team who rejected Hyun-ju fail to pass Flying Stone when Player 198, Jang Do-yeong, keeps missing his throw. They are shot dead for not passing in time. On Thanos' team, Nam-gyu takes some pills Thanos stashed in a crucifix. Hyun-ju comes up with the idea of walking backwards to save time, and her team pass; she also helps Young-mi with Ddakji. Yong-sik plays Flying Stone, Geum-ja plays Gonggi and a hysterical Seon-nyeo passes the top game after Hyun-ju slaps her. Hyun-ju herself plays Jegi. Everyone, even In-ho, cheers them on.

Gi-hun teams up with Jun-hee, Jung-bae, Dae-ho and In-ho, and their team is one of the last. Jun-hee quickly wins at Ddakji, Jung-bae at Flying Stone (he plays a mean game of baseball) and Dae-ho at Gonggi, despite it being a girls' game. However, In-ho delays the team while playing with the top, deliberately using his right hand rather than his dominant left. He just about passes in time and Gi-hun wins Jegi with his help. The team celebrate, but the victory is a bitter one as another squad are shot dead.

Answer: Myung-gi

While the surviving players head back to their dorms, No-eul is attacked and threatened by a couple of Pink Soldiers involved in the organ harvesting ring, who are angry with her because her kills are too accurate, and she is depriving them of bodies to steal from. She had also attracted attention for insisting on shooting Do-yeong dead on discovering he was still alive when he was placed in his coffin.

In the dorm, the players vote for a second time, with 255 players left. This time, In-ho votes X, but other notable players vote O; Hyun-ju votes O because she needs the money for gender reassignment surgery, as does Yong-sik, much to his mother and team mates' horror, and Jung-bae. Under pressure from Thanos' gang, the shy Min-su - one of the members of their team - votes O, but Myung-gi changes his vote to X because he wants to protect Jun-hee and their unborn baby. A tearful Young-mi begs people not to vote O, but another player argues that he desperately needs the money. Jeong-dae and the other O voters chant, "One more game!"

Thanos and Nam-gyu both bully Myung-gi in the toilets for changing his vote to X, but he refuses to say why he did it, in order to protect Jun-hee. Gi-hun advises his team to put up a barricade in case anyone tries any sneak attacks; he and Jung-bae keep watch and reminisce about old times, while Jun-hee cries in the women's toilet, Geum-ja comforts her and Hyun-ju feels guilty.

Answer: Six

In 'Mingle', the players stand on a carousel while a children's song plays, and each time the carousel stops, a number is announced and the players have to get into groups of that number and hide in a room. They cannot lie about the number, as one group finds out the hard way when they are spotted on the cameras with one person missing and are all shot. When the number four is called, Thanos kicks Gyeong-su out of his group and leaves him to die. Min-su also abandons Se-mi, the only girl in Thanos' group, when the players have to join groups of three, while Geum-ja and Yong-sik are split up. However, they both survive and promise to stick together.

When the players divide into groups of six, Young-mi is accidentally pushed over and is unable to get to the same room as the rest of Hyun-ju's group in time. Hyun-ju tries to let her in, but Myung-gi barges in and shuts the door, and Young-mi is shot dead as she looks through the letterbox. Hyun-ju lashes out at Myung-gi in grief, but Myung-gi argues that they had no time and that they would have all died if Hyun-ju had tried to save her.

In the final round, everyone has to pair up. In-ho notes that there are fifty doors, but 126 players, meaning death is inevitable. Jung-bae pairs up with In-ho and the two find a room with Player 343 in it after In-ho shoves another player aside. In-ho snaps the man's neck, reducing the number of people in the room to two. Jung-bae almost tells the other players what he saw, but decides not to.

Answer: Fork

The players are given gimbap (similar to sushi) wrapped in foil for dinner, and Gi-hun is dismayed to find a fork included. Koreans do not usually eat with forks, and he remembers the brawl Deok-su started in the previous Squid Game after lights out. Sure enough, a fight breaks out in the men's toilet when Min-su is cornered by Nam-gyu and Thanos, who are angry with him for changing his vote to X. Myung-gi defends Min-su and Thanos threatens to steal Jun-hee and cut off Myung-gi's fingers. Myung-gi attacks Thanos and everyone starts fighting while Min-su runs away.

Thanos, who is high on drugs, strangles Myung-gi in a rage but Myun-gi kills him by stabbing him in the neck with a fork. Nam-gyu steals Thanos' crucifix and attacks Player 331 with a fork. In total, five players die in the brawl and are eliminated, as the guards escort the survivors back to the dorms.

Outside the games, Hwang Jun-ho is trying to find the island where the games take place, as his adopted brother In-ho is the Front Man. A previous infiltration attempt had ended in In-ho shooting him and Captain Park fishing him out of the sea. Since then, Captain Park has been looking for the island without much success. He takes Jun-ho, Woo-seok and the other mercenaries out on his fishing boat every day, and one of the mercenaries is a drone operator.

While the brawl breaks out in the toilets, on the boat, the drone operator gets seasick and goes on deck to throw up, and catches Captain Park interfering with his drone. He confronts Park, who kills him and throws him overboard, and later claims he must have fallen overboard while drunk. This reveals that Captain Park is in cahoots with the Front Man, later confirmed when they talk over the phone, and that he does know where the island is and is deliberately avoiding it.

Answer: Jung-bae

Gi-hun and Jung-bae organise a group of male X voters, In-ho among them, to fight back against the guards; Hyun-ju also volunteers because of her military experience. Myung-gi and Yong-sik are eager, but Jun-hee and Geum-ja stop them. The rebels have to play dead during the 'special game' so they can catch the guards unawares. The 'special game' starts and a fight breaks out, with Se-mi being stabbed by a crazed Nam-gyu while Min-su freezes in fear. Gi-hun's group ambush the guards, steal their guns and ammo, and shoot them. They then head to the staircase and a shootout begins, with several guards and players dying. However, the players begin to run out of ammo.

Dae-ho, who is lying about his military experience and is shown to be incapable of handling a gun correctly, volunteers to go back to the dorm and get more ammo, but panics on the way back and abandons the team. When Hyun-ju tries to contact him, he drops his walkie-talkie. Hyun-ju is worried and goes back to find Dae-ho cowering in the corner. A group of guards come and although Hyun-ju is willing to fight them, Geum-ja begs her not to and she surrenders.

On the stairs, Gi-hun's group split up, with In-ho taking Players 015 and 047 with him. However, he shoots them both dead, changes the channel on his walkie-talkie and announces that it is time to wrap things up. He goes to change back into his Front Man outfit. Out of ammo, the rebels surrender and are shot dead, with the exception of Gyeong-seok; No-eul shoots him but, as we find out next series, she makes a point of not fatally shooting him. The Front Man confronts Jung-bae and Gi-hun and shoots Jung-bae dead to punish Gi-hun for trying to play the hero. Gi-hun cries over Jung-bae's body as the guards capture him.
