Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where is the formal boss encounter with the Covetous Demon fought?

Answer: Harvest Valley

Right before actually entering the Earthen Peak in Harvest Valley is where this fight takes place.
2. Per Covetous Demon's lore, this is a creature who was once a regular human man that fell in love with another major name in the game to the point of major obsession. Who did Covetous Demon fall in love with?

Answer: Mytha

Mytha, the Baneful Queen and the very next boss the player will encounter after Covetous Demon, was the object of Covetous Demon's obsessive romantic aspiration. Covetous Demon was apparently so enthralled with Mytha, that in his quest to woo her over, he decided aggressively overeating until he turned into the Covetous Demon would attract her.

Now, I am not going to pretend I am the authority on winning women over romantically, but I would have to think there are better ways to do it than completely disfiguring your body from gluttony. Perhaps he should have sought advice from a friend or some dating guide instead.
3. Interestingly, a series of breakable jars hang overhead the massive demon. When breaking one of these jars, an Undead Laborer will fall out and hit the ground. When this happens, what does Covetous Demon do?

Answer: Go over and devour the Undead Laborer

There are a total of four breakable jars with Undead Laborers in them. Covetous Demon will completely ignore the player like they aren't even there if they break one of these jars, preferring to slither over and devour the Undead Laborer before returning to the fight.

This does slightly heal Covetous Demon, but the duration of time it spends being distracted is so great that the player could straight up kill Covetous Demon outright. And that's with just one Undead Laborer, let alone the four the player could use as distractions.
4. What is Covetous Demon's biggest weakness?

Answer: Thrusting

Covetous Demon holds an unsavory 35% weakness to Thrust, a metric just making its way into the top ten biggest weaknesses in the entire game. Additionally, he hosts a minor but still noticeable 10% weakness to Slashing damage.
5. Though not quite fully immune, what is Covetous Demon's biggest resistance?

Answer: Poison

Covetous Demon is very, very, very sturdy against Poison, with a massive 85% resistance to it, making poisoning him out to be pretty hard to do. Interestingly, Covetous Demon's blubber must have elements of rubber in it, as he is 50% resistant to Lightning as well, a very, very sturdy resistance.
6. Covetous Demon has one special attack with an exclusive effect. He is uniquely capable of forcing the player to immediately unequip literally everything they have to hand, weapons, armor and rings alike. Covetous Demon has to land a very particular attack on the player to do this, though. Broadly speaking, what will Covetous Demon attempt to do that could have this outcome?

Answer: Eat the player

If the player stands directly in front of Covetous Demon for a very long time, there is a minor but existent chance he will try to devour their character. This attack has a massive, predictable telegraph where the Covetous Demon slowly opens his mouth and sticks his tongue out before lunging at the player.

This is the only attack in Covetous Demon's arsenal which will actually deal significant damage. This one can straight up kill low Vigor players in one hit, but even if they survive, Covetous Demon will spit them out with all of their gear completely unequipped.

The player could just easily re-equip their gear and continue the fight. That is, if their pride didn't get wounded so badly getting hit by such a slow attack that it prompts them to uninstall the game entirely.
7. Is there an NPC summon available for Covetous Demon?

Answer: No

Hilarious and ironic as it is, Covetous Demon's lack of NPC summon combined with his strangely huge Poison resistance makes this one of the longest boss fights in the game for players seeking to conquer it with a Pacifist playstyle. There are no NPCs to do the killing for the player, meaning they'd have to resort to passively poisoning and killing the demon that way.
8. When defeating the boss version of the Covetous Demon, the Covetous Demon soul is dropped to the player. This can be converted into the Bone Scythe. When reading how this weapon is connected to the Covetous Demon, it turns out that the weapon itself was previously a body part of his. What body part does the player wield when using the Bone Scythe?

Answer: Covetous Demon's spine

The lengthy reach of the weapon and bone aesthetic does make it appear like a giant, rough spine to handle. Interestingly, this is the only scythe in the game to be predominantly Strength scaling, and it actually gets a pretty strong A for a rank at that.

Annoyingly, this weapon shares in common with the Gargoyle's Bident that it is Strength scaling, yet requires a significant amount of Dexterity that does not give value for achieving. Despite the Bone Scythe requiring 20 Dexterity to wield, it does not scale off of Dexterity whatsoever. Like the Gargoyle's Bident, this stat inefficiency is what makes the weapon largely unattractive for players to wield. The Great Scythe has been available up to this point in the game, and does not suffer the same problem.
9. Covetous Demon can be found later as a mini boss. Where does this take place?

Answer: Frozen Eleum Loyce

Here, Covetous Demon's grey blubber aesthetic is now white, fitting given that he is in a city with a raging blizzard coursing through. He retains the same attacking moves and resistance values from his formal boss fight, only since this is end game, he has been properly scaled for the area. That realistically does not make the fight any harder, but it can make it take longer.
10. When fought as a mini boss, Covetous Demon will now drop a ring on defeat. What ring does he drop here?

Answer: Ashen Warrior Ring

The Ashen Warrior ring greatly increases the stamina damage players do when they attack an enemy who is shielding their attacks. The idea behind this is to make it easier for the player to pressure other players in PvP who wield greatshields. This can be an effective ring for players wielding heavy weaponry, like Ultra Greatswords or Greathammers, as this ring will make it easier for these weapons to break through big shields and cause tons of damage in the process.

Sadly, this ring actually does not have any impact in PvE. Even enemies who use shields are unaffected by this ring. Because of this, this ring only actually does something in PvP.
