Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Ryu

Ryu is one of the three Japanese characters in 'Super Street Fighter II', along with the sumo wrestler E. Honda and Akuma, an immensely powerful warrior who appears as a secret character in 'Super Street Fighter II Turbo'. He is considered to be one of the faces of the series, having appeared in the original 'Street Fighter' and is a stoic warrior who walks the Earth seeking the meaning of what it is to be a 'true warrior'.

The more laid-back Ken is Ryu's American counterpart; both of them are known as 'Shotoclones' due to a mistranslation claiming they use Shotokan karate, and they use the same techniques, such as the Hadouken (a fireball), the Hurricane Kick and the Shoryuken (a rising uppercut). (Whenever I played 'Street Fighter II', Ryu was always the harder of the two.) They both trained under the same master, Gouken, who appears as a sub-boss in 'Street Fighter IV'.

Ryu's stage is Suzaku Castle, a Japanese feudal castle.
2. Guile

William Guile is Ken's brother-in-law, but the two couldn't be more different! Guile is a super serious military man and an Air Force major whose friend Charlie Nash - who appears in 'Street Fighter Alpha' - was killed by Bison. He manipulates wind and his main moves are Sonic Boom and Flash Kick, a somersault kick. In the film, he was played by Jean-Claude van Damme, who is Belgian, and replaced Ryu as the main character (probably due to being American).

Guile's stage is a US Air Force base, and he has a theme tune that became a meme because it apparently 'goes with everything'.
3. Zangief

Zangief is a Russian wrestler who is known as the Red Cyclone and trains by wrestling bears. Like fellow wrestler Honda, he entered the tournament for the glory of his country. He is a heavy damage dealer - when he pounds his opponent into the ground, it has devastating effects on their health bar - and is also one of the trickiest characters to play as, according to 'Street Fighter' experts. His ending is something of a meme, as it has a cameo from Mikhail Gorbachev in it and the two do a Cossack dance together.

Zangief's stage is a Russian factory, with workers watching the fight.
4. Sagat

Sagat is a Muay Thai fighter who appeared in the original 'Street Fighter', where he had a rivalry with fellow Muay Thai fighter Adon. In 'Street Fighter II', he was the third of the four bosses. He wears an eyepatch because Dan Hibiki's father Go took his eye out, and he killed Go in revenge. Ryu gave him his scar in the first 'Street Fighter' tournament and Sagat joined the evil organisation Shadaloo to get revenge on him; he later left and became one of the good guys. Many of his moves have 'tiger' in the name, such as his signature Tiger Uppercut.

Sagat's stage is the Ayutthaya Ruins, a Thai temple complex with a giant reclining Buddha.
5. Vega

Vega - Balrog in the Japanese version - is a Spanish matador and ninja who is obsessed with beauty and hates ugly people and things, due to his ugly stepfather murdering his mother. In 'Street Fighter II', he is the second of the four bosses to be fought. He is very fast and fights with a pair of metal claws, and wears a mask to protect his face (although it gets broken if he loses). As an aside, I always hated playing against him because he had a nasty habit of climbing up the wall and then dropping down on my character.

Vega's stage is a Spanish tavern, complete with flamenco dancers.
6. Chun-Li

Chun-Li was the first woman to appear in 'Street Fighter' and the only one on the 'Street Fighter II' roster, although not the only one in 'Super Street Fighter II' thanks to the appearance of Cammy. She is a Chinese Interpol agent whose father was killed by Bison; in her ending, she pays her respects at his grave. She is one of the fastest characters and is very light, and mainly fights with kicks; the Spinning Bird Kick, in which she spins upside-down like a helicopter, is her signature move. (She was also my favourite character to play as.)

Chun-Li's stage is Taiping Road, a Chinese street with a wet market (you can see live chickens in the background).
7. Dhalsim

Dhalsim looks creepy, but is actually one of the good guys. The skull necklace he wears is made of the skulls of children from his village who died of hunger, and he joined the tournament to raise money for his village. He is an Indian mystic and yoga practitioner, and is able to bend and stretch his body thanks to years of training; he is one of the more unusual fighters because of this, and can also breathe fire and float. Incidentally, Dhalsim is my favourite character to play as next to Chun-Li.

Dhalsim's stage is a Hindu temple, complete with elephants.
8. Blanka

Blanka does not look human, but he is. He was originally a pilot called Jimmy who crash landed in the Amazon jungle and became a wild man. He learned to channel electricity through his body, and some of his attacks are electric; he can electrocute the opponent or shoot balls of electricity. His green skin is the result of using chlorophyll from plants to camouflage himself in the jungle; the green colour eventually became permanent.

Blanka's stage is a dock in the Amazon Basin in Brazil.
9. T. Hawk

T. Hawk, or Thunder Hawk to give him his full name, is a Native American from Mexico who belongs to the Thunderfoot tribe, and has learned their particular fighting style. He is associated with birds of prey and some of his moves are named after the condor. He seeks revenge on Bison for killing his father and kidnapping Noembelu, another member of his tribe, and Julia, his girlfriend; Julia was originally another member of the tribe, but was retconned as the daughter of a German doctor who worked on the Thunderfoot reservation. Both Julia, under the name of Juli, and Noembelu were conscripted into the Dolls, Bison's female guards.

T. Hawk's stage is Monte Alban in Mexico. He was one of four new characters introduced for 'Super Street Fighter II', along with Cammy, Dee Jay (a Jamaican musician) and Fei Long (a Bruce Lee lookalike from Hong Kong).
10. Cammy

The second female fighter in this quiz, Cammy White is an English agent of Delta Red, a fictional branch of MI6. Before she joined, she was a member of Shadaloo cloned from Bison's DNA and fought for Bison under the name of Killer Bee while brainwashed. 'Alpha' delves more into her background and has her fighting in her Killer Bee uniform. Decapre, a Russian Doll who became playable in 'Street Fighter IV', is cloned from her and looks like Cammy with a Vega-style mask. Like Chun-Li, she is very fast and fights with kicks such as the Spiral Arrow.

Cammy's stage is Fraserburgh Castle, a castle in the county of Northumbria with the Aurora Borealis in the background.
