'Fortnite' For All Trivia Quiz

Even though this isn't written for the challenge itself, Kyle's call to action for authors to create new multiple choice quizzes led me to put together such a quiz on 'Fortnite'. You don't have to have played the game to score well. Good luck.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which heroic software company developed the hugely successful video game, 'Fortnite'?

Answer: Epic Games

Based in North Carolina is Epic Games, a software development company specialising in the creation of video games. The company has its origins in early 1990s Maryland under the name Potomac Computer Systems.

Prior to the release of the record-breaking 'Fortnite', Epic Games had developed and published a number of other well-known titles including the 'Unreal Tournament' series and 'Gears of War'. The company also developed a successful gaming engine, Unreal Engine, that underpins their operation.
2. 'Fortnite' is associated with an engaging map that has changed over time; the original version had locations such as Pleasant Park, Anarchy Acres, Wailing Woods and Dusty Depot. What lake featured on the original map?

Answer: Loot Lake

'Fortnite' had its initial early release in 2017 and the first iteration of the game had the title 'Save the World'; this was successful but future developments - and the broadening of availability across platforms such as Nintendo - led to the game amassing well in excess of 100 million players by 2018.

The original or "OG" map centred on an island named Athena and each of the key locations on the map had an alliterative name. Slightly off to the northwest of the island's centre was Loot Lake, a substantial body of water connected to two large rivers. It was a popular starting location for players due, in part, to the abundance of chests and loot (hence its name).
3. 'Fortnite' features a number of different game modes but which regal offering - one hundred players and the winner takes all - parachuted the game to huge popularity?

Answer: Battle Royale

Battle Royale was the game mode that transformed 'Fortnite' into one of the most successful games of all time. It is free to play, has an abundance of engaging items, a visually appealing map, numerous quests, and most importantly up to 99 other players to try to outwit during a battle lasting ten to twenty minutes (or thirty seconds if you mess it up). If you win a round, you pick up a crown and achieve a "Victory Royale". Congratulations, you really are number one!

The 99 or 100 player format has been used in other games such as Nintendo's free-to-play 'F-Zero 99' and 'Tetris 99'.
4. Which Danish toy company collaborated with 'Fortnite' in 2023 to create a successful game mode?

Answer: Lego

'Lego Fortnite' was released in late 2023 and it features a number of modes of play including 'Lego Fortnite Odyssey' (survival), 'Brick Life' (adventure) and 'Lego Expeditions' (cooperative). The game is designed to cater for a younger audience and allows youngsters to experience 'Fortnite' without quite so much of the overt violence.

Its approach to combat is similar in nature to that seen in the sandbox hit 'Minecraft'.
5. 'Fortnite' is not just about the gameplay; there are outfits, back bling and pickaxes too. What is common 'Fortnite' parlance for an "outfit"?

Answer: Skin

Video game cosmetics seems to be something of an obsession for younger generations. Whenever I play the game with my nephew he is far more interested in outfits (which are far more commonly referred to as "skins"), back bling, pickaxes, sprays (for in-game graffiti) and all the other paraphernalia that is a core part of the 'Fortnite' experience.

The full-to-bursting back catalogue of bling is what keeps the game culturally relevant, with collaborations between 'Fortnite' and famous athletes, musicians, television shows, comic book franchises and much, much more generating a buzz in-game, across social media and in real life conversation.
6. A 'Fortnite' set for which rapper contained back bling called D-O-Double G?

Answer: Snoop Dogg

D, O, G and G hopefully led you to Calvin Broadus Jr., better known as rapper, Snoop Dogg. He was previously known as Snoop Doggy Dogg but presumably he went through a phase in his life where he wanted to be more succinct.

D-O-Double G is a piece of back bling that was first made available in 2024 during the initial release of the music pass associated with Snoop Dogg's collaboration with 'Fortnite'. The cosmetic shares its name in part with a song from Snoop Dogg's 2004 album, 'R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta): The Masterpiece'. I won't reproduce the lyrics here as my submission would almost certainly be rejected on the grounds of obscenity! You are looking up the lyrics right now aren't you? I see you...
7. The Gotham City set was introduced to 'Fortnite' during Season X and featured outfits that included which superhero?

Answer: Batman

"It's always darkest before the dawn", so says the collaboration between 'Batman' and 'Fortnite'. Gotham City, famously the haunt of Batman, featured as a location on the 'Fortnite' map in 2019, during Season X (Season 10). In accompaniment, the collaboration yielded the Gotham City set which included a number of outfits or skins such as Batman (comic book), The Dark Knight (movie), Catwoman (comic book) and Harley Quinn. A desirable piece of back bling came in the form of the instantly recognisable black cape.

Collaborations, crossovers or mashups can often be seen denoted by the letter x, as in 'Batman' x 'Fortnite'.
8. Which franchise partnered with 'Fortnite' to afford players the chance to wield a lightsaber?

Answer: Star Wars

The collaboration between 'Star Wars' and 'Fortnite' has been a long-running one and it is perhaps not surprising that The Walt Disney Company holds a non-trivial stake in Epic Games, the software development company behind the game. The lightsaber was available for use as a melee weapon when it was initially released in late 2019; they were available in the expected colours such as red (Kylo Ren), blue (Obi-Wan Kenobi) and purple (Mace Windu).
9. The mashup 'KPop Demon Hunters' x 'Fortnite' featured ramyeon, a food product from which country?

Answer: South Korea

I must admit that I haven't watched 'KPop Demon Hunters' on Netflix but the movie's collaboration with 'Fortnite' brought about some interesting features, including a side game called 'Demon Rush' which was available around the Halloween period of 2025. The mashup introduced characters Rumi, Mira and Zoey into the 'Fortnite' universe as well as a neat consumable called Mira's X-tra Spicy Ramyeon, an instant noodle pot that revitalised a player's vital statistics when eaten.

KPop (or K-Pop) is an abbreviated form of "Korean Pop" and ramyeon (not to be confused with the somewhat similar Japanese offering, ramen) is a dish commonly consumed in South Korea.
10. In November 2025, which animation collaborated with 'Fortnite' to turn the map into Springfield?

Answer: The Simpsons

Throughout November 2025, players of 'Fortnite' were able to immerse themselves in the geography, "culture" and landmarks of Springfield, the location at the heart of the American animation that needs no introduction, 'The Simpsons'. We won't mention Shelbyville.

The collaboration made it possible to explore Homer's place of work at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant, sit on the famous couch at 742 Evergreen Terrace, sneak into the home of the miserly Charles Montgomery Burns, run wild in the fields at Cletus Spuckler's run-down farm and much more. The mini-season came to an end with players able to press a button to nudge a sleeping, gigantic version of Homer Simpson. "D'oh!"
